Pokémon Mint

mintlogo.png
Made in RPG Maker XP Using Poccil/Flameguru's Starterkit

Introduction
Welcome to the NEW Pokémon Mint thread. Okay, first off I'm gonna start with a rather boring introduction you will most likely skip. Pokémon Mint started off when I was a yound lad new to the online world, with no clue about giving credits, or using non-public work. I was crushed when it got shutdown on PC for Sprite Theft.

So instead of crying I asked Yuoman to revive my thread, I apologized to the owner of the sprite I accidentally stole, and asked if I could use and instead of being nice about it he was quite a jerk. So, starting back up I had some decent progress in the game (2 gym leaders and about 6 towns) when my computer was hit with a virus. Bam. Mint was gone again.

I had given up. I was also in a real life depression crisis so this didn't help. After awhile my really good friend Spriteman97 gave me lots of confidence and inspiration, so I started working on Mint again. Only this time it had a new storyline, and 5th generation graphics. I hadn't even gotten to Inoue when I gave up. It looked Grotesque.

Storyline
Warning! Major Plot Spoiling!

You all know who Yellow is, right? If you don't you probably won't understand a little bit of the story but that's alright. It doesn't heavily rely on the manga, I just adore Yellow enough to make her the Heroine.

This story starts off when you have a strange dream with an odd crescent-looking Pokémon that tells you how the world is in mortal danger by an evil force called Darkrai. She explains to you that you are the only one that can stop him and that you must enter his own nightmare world to stop him from the inside out. As you progress through the game Cresselia's power to make this nightmare world more "dreamy" as opposed to scary decreases, so the end of the game gets very grim and deposing.

As you venture throughout this world called Inoue, supposedly located south of Hoenn, the two legendary Pokémon are battling the biggest battle ever recorded, atop Mount Silver. At this point Darkrai has already corrupted Pallet Town and Viridian City, with chaos running amok. Professor Oak, and your friends Red, Green, and Blue find you in a coma, but you are actually in the dream world fighting Darkrai's evil power.

I would like to spoil more, but, alas, that would be awful of me.

The Heroine

Our Heroine of this story is Yellow, a girl who once saved the world by defeating Lance, who wanted to rid all of Humankind for the sake of Pokémon. She is now fully grown and has blossomed into a pretty girl.

This is her Pikachu, Chuchu:

♥Minigames and Intriguing, most aggravating puzzles
♥Trading Card Game is in development (Might just go with Triple Triad)
♥Costume System (Which is why the screens have Kris)
♥New moves and abilities, some from the TCG!
♥Touch screen control pad in development
♥8-bit music
♥I made a sexy little credits script for the introduction piece
♥300 Pokémon Pokédex, including some new Fakémon
♥New Tiles ☺

MAKE SURE YOU INSTALL ALL THE FONTS IN THE FONTS FOLDER!!! THIS GAME PROBABLY WILL NOT WORK ON MACS!

Some bugs/oddities
-the puzzles are extremely annoying. Make sure you talk to anything looking suspicious.
-Some Pokémon may be overpowered. The demo only features 3 trainers and wild battles. The next demo will be much much better.
-Some things that may look odd will appear...95% of sound effects are not 8 bit yet.

Thank you!

Re: Pokémon Mint

@Pingouin7
If you mean the fact that Kris is in the screenshots, it's because there is a costume system in the game. If you mean I should replace Yellow, hell to the no.

@tysonrss
I figured it would be more popular on a community that appreciates games styled in GSC.

Oh, okay then...Yeah, it's already been changed. It's ready for beta release, I just need to figure out how to encrypt it for people without RTP.

Some bugs/oddities
-May not work - it's my first time publishing a demo.
-the puzzles are extremely annoying. Make sure you talk to anything looking suspicious.
-Textbox is big. Don't know why because it's fine when the game hasn't been compressed or encrypted. So some sprites may be cut off in the intro.
-Some Pokémon may be overpowered. The demo only features 2 trainers and no wild battles. The next demo will be much much better.
-Some things that may look odd will appear...95% of sound effects are not 8 bit yet.
-When you lose you go to the debug room. my bad.
-Shadow Peon Nosferatu should NOT have an Umbreon. My apologies. I know I changed it >.<

Re: Pokémon Mint

Yeah I posted in a VM at PHO the problems..

As I said, if the talking sequences weren't so dramatic or cheesy, and the tiles had permissions. It wouldn't be that bad.

Oh...and you should make sure that there is a check before going into the lab. I didn't get a Pokemon, and I assume I was supposed to since there were "battles" I thought I'd engage in.

Re: Pokémon Mint

There should be a check...The door is supposed to be locked if you don't have chuchu....I Don't think this is my fault, it's the encryption's...

Anything good to comment about...The titlescreen bootup, the intro, etc.?

Re: Pokémon Mint

This game looks great although I can't say much by the screenshots only.
I'll (try to make time for myself to) test the game this weekend.

P.S
I'd really like it if you did sprites for my hack.
If you're interested (or don't mind), we could talk about it later :)

Re: Pokémon Mint

sure thing. I sprited a bit for Hackchu (tysonrss) as well so I don't mind. Saw alot of your yellow hacking back in the dayand I must say your one of my hacking idols. The beta is really buggy so I don't recommend you play. I'm releasing a new one later that will (hopefully) have those bugs fixed.

I checked out the thread and it looks great! Looking forward to helping you with it. I can do some spriting after I finish tysonrss' request and my next beta (which should be tomorrow).

Re: Pokémon Mint

I honestly doubt it was the encryption. Building up on the game does not effect the "Common Events" section..if that's where you did the check anyway. In which case it would only seem logical you did. If the encryption screwed it up, then it wouldn't be made to be encrytped in the first place.

Or is that a 3rd party encryption you used? I don't recall RMXP having that feature anyway. So I assume you did use a tool. Even so, it shouldn't be effecting Common Events...

Re: Pokémon Mint

I rarely use common events. I use switches and self switches. I'll give it a try, though it seems unnecessary.

Switches and variables are apart of Common Events....

Or is it scripted in Ruby?

Beta 1 is down, 1.1 is uploading now. I tested it myself and it should work fine. CHUCHU is added to your party silently, so you cannot nickname her. No. You may not.

Re: Pokémon Mint

I tested the game and was able (almost by accident) get to "Riota Beach ?" without Chuchu and faced "Red" without a pokemon and won before the battle even began. You should still do some fixing in the beginning of the game.
I'm going to start it over tommorow by getting Chuchu in Blue's house (where I assume I'll receive it).

Anyway, the beginning was pretty fun and random :D

Re: Pokémon Mint

I keep hearing about being able to get past the beginning without Chuchu, but I don't know why. There's also a glitch in Riota Cave where you can't get out, which I have fixed. Sorry about that. BTW, his name is Nosferatu.

You just go to talk to Prof. Oak right away.

P.S
I visited Blue's house alright but went outside as soon as I got there.

Re: Pokémon Mint

every single one of these glitches seems to either be a simple event mistake or not occurring for me, like the one above. It also seems like some things, like trainer battles and so on have glitches for some people as well. I am using a Windows 7 desktop with 3.31ghz processor so I know it's not me.

All of these glitches have seemed to be fixed but I cannot explain the one above, Miksy91, could you explain it a bit better?

Re: Pokémon Mint

After you've started the game, you can go to Blue's house but don't have to do anything there (I assume you get Chuchu by talking to it which I did not do). Prof. Oak can be found without talking to Chuchu at least (not sure if visiting Blue's house is necessary or not).

Re: Pokémon Mint

Yes, I've fixed the glitch to getting in the lab. However, Chuchu is silently added to your party, which I'm wondering if that is the cause of the glitch. I'm gonna add it to where you can nickname Chuchu, but It's gonna just make it feel unprofessional, but hopefully it'll work.

Aside from that, I'll be releasing the next beta (1.2) later within the next 24 hours. It goes up to the end of Loris Town, with events included. I'm mapping out the next route called "Floral Path", but it might not be accessible. After this beta I'm not releasing another until Duron Island is complete (4 towns; 4 dungeons; 1 Gym Leader) There are only 5 gym leaders in Inoue, so don't sweat it xD
