lol I made an epic test if it's possible to make a trainer have 18 pokemon but it reads only bytes for 6  :D

Just reviving this thread as I was studying the script of a female trainer as I wanted to change the text pointers for her. As well as doing it, I tried what each byte in her script did (and ended up with the same result Mateo already posted in this thread) because I wanted to change the type of the trainer you battle - this is because I was planning to include more "Team Rocket" battles into the hack.

So basicly, does anybody here know where it loads the picture of the trainer & the type of the trainer you battle (for example Cooltrainer/Bug Catcher) ?

How can you get trainers inside of gyms to work properly if you change the order of the gyms? All the leaders work just fine, but the rest of the trainers just cause game to crash.

To answer the question about changing the trainer picture and such, that is in the trainer's script. It loads which trainer group, which trainer in that group, and the text when seen, beaten, and such like that. If you want to add more trainers to a particular group, you would have to repoint the start of the Rocket Grunts data so you can add more to the end. You cannot however just change a lass from being "LASS DANA" to "ROCKET DANA" for example.

By the way...there is no pointer at 3993E. It's just C2 59.

Everything else is good, and is explained well...

EDIT: Nevermind. It takes a little math problem to figure it out. C2 59 is indeed the original pointer for Falkner.

Err....I can't make sense out of the Rival data at all. If it's the 9th pointer than I caculated it and ended up at a offset(in the bank) that doesn't have the data type and etc by it.

EDIT: Damn! I hate sounding like a newb. Anyway, I found the area for Rival "1". I'll be repointing that!

The rival's data is confusing at first, because the name data is not the character for the rival's name. But it is there.

Well, it is. The character just happens to be a single byte that the text engine expands to the full name. It wouldn’t make sense for the rival to have a fixed name here, because the player can choose it.

Yeah, the "name" is E6. However the class is called "RIVAL" meaning the name would be inserted there instead of "RIVAL GREEN".

That’s true. There must be a check somewhere so that it doesn’t print the class if you’re fighting one of the various rival classes. (It doesn’t print the extra space either.)

I don’t think there’s anything to trainer classes beyond picture, name, trainer data. Just repoint those pointers and add to the end. There’s a check somewhere that hardcodes the count to 0x42 (0x43 in Crystal), though.

Actually that count is 43 in Silver so I'd assume it'd be 44 in Crystal. I kinda thought I'd be able to add a trainer class and have the game recognize it if I changed 43 to 44.

I think there is a table somewhere that determines which song is played when you are "seen" by a trainer too. Since male and females have a different song, also gym leaders, rival, and rockets.

It can probably be edited in the same method as you do when changing the rival music...which I need to do right now.

On a unrelated topic.

I suppose there isn't a good tutorial or program out there that allows you insert music. I mean I came across a thread on here, but the program is for Blue/Red and it's just to much to convert it to Gold.

Yes. See 0x7F in Tauwasser’s doc. The song numbers are in an array at 3A:5027.

How would I go about changing the Enemy's Pokemon's DV using this guide? It kinda of confuses me cuz I want to change it so that the Pokemon I want to change it to a shiny Pokemon?
