Forum backups

I have no plans to discontinue this website. But it would be a real shame if something were to happen and all data were to be lost.

So here is a SQL dump of the board database: users, posts, topics, and forums.. I encourage you to save a copy to your hard drive, so that if this site permanently goes down (due to a crazy administrator, my incapacitation, a zombie attack, etc.), the information is not gone forever.

I will periodically update this.

Download backup

Note: some browsers will decompress .gz files automatically when downloading but don’t change the file extension. Try opening it in a text editor first, and if you get gibberish, decompress the file.

Re: Forum backups

It's a good thing you made a backup as the old site went down back then.
Neither you or Mateo were the admin then right ?

Edit:
Now that I think about it, Twilight Hacking was even before Skeetendo proboards.

Re: Forum backups

Yes, this is basically because I’m paranoid about another Twilight Hacking event where all the posts disappear. No, I wasn’t admin then, but even if I were it couldn’t have been prevented, because we were on free hosting and didn’t have a way to back up the database.

Re: Forum backups

Yeah, IIMarckus is right. I was an admin at the time, well at first, but I was stripped of my admin privileges at the start of the nonsense, and again, no way to backup anyway. This certainly beats trying to manually copy threads from google's cache of the board if anything ever happens.

EDIT: I'll also be storing a copy of this on my external, on the two random desktops in my room that are seldom used (and only one is attached to a keyboard/mouse/monitor) as well as a flashdrive. Heck, the file isn't that big. I may slap one on the memory card in my blackberry too. Maximizing redundancy like they were free drink refills, basically.

That'll be because it's still a .gz file. If your using Windows download 7-zip that will decompress the .gz.

Re: Forum backups

Speaking of that the backup's about 11 months old now. How about a new one?

You can try to hide yourself in this world of pretend; when the paper's crumpled up, it can't be perfect again.
