Some questions on the disassemblies

Here are some questions I have regarding PokéRed and PokéCrystal:

1. Will anyone do a Japanese Red disassembly? There are some resources I need from there. Thanks!

2. Nintendo decided to break some rules and put Celebi's event in the VC release of Crystal on 3DS. Are you guys gonna disable the flags preventing Celebi from showing up, or are we just gonna stick to the GBC release? Thanks!

3. In the README file for PokéRed, the ROMS are stated as GB ROMS, while the ROMS that are actually built are GBC ROMS. With the SGB and stuff, I guess it kinda makes sense, but is there a reason as to why this change occurred? If I were to change the file back to a GB ROM, will it do the original file any harm? Thanks!

Re: Some questions on the disassemblies

I don't think any of us have plans to do a Jap disassembly. What resources do you need exactly? Some of them, like pokemon pics, are already documented in the pokered repo.

I haven't been keeping up with the VC releases so I don't know.

The file extension is completely irrelevant. Any decent emulator will determine the game type (GB, SGB, GBC) by reading the ROM header inside the file, and it won't even look at the file extension.
There is no harm in changing the Makefile so that it ouputs the rom as .gb if you really want to

(Depressingly enough, BizHawk relies on game dbs with SHA-1 hashes to recognize roms and goes off file extension if the rom isn't recognized, lol. Found that out the hard way.)

But yeah, extension is just text. Won't really change the contents of the file if you just renamed from .gbc to .gb, even, and the compiled rom won't be any different if you get the disassembly to do it for you.

I was looking to see if I could use the Japanese Red as a basis for a hack I wanted to work on. It seems luckytyphlosion has the closest to the originals. I think I got it down now! Thanks!

Re: Some questions on the disassemblies

Sorry for bumping this dead thread, but I wanted to ask one more question. How complete are the Pokémon Red, Yellow, and Crystal disassemblies compared to the retail ROMs they originate from by percentage? Like, is PokéRed 85% complete or something like that? Thanks!

Re: Some questions on the disassemblies

The Red, Yellow, and Crystal disassemblies cover 100% of the retail games.
