[pokecrystal] Adding walking Pokémon

One of mine objectives as I begin development work on the Pokémon Tri-Metal Nostalgia Series is the addition of walking Pokémon, a la Pokémon Yellow. What I'm planning, basically, amounts to having the lead Pokémon follow the player character in the overworld, a la Heart Gold/Soul Silver. Question is, how do I implement this?

Re: [pokecrystal] Adding walking Pokémon

comet has an incomplete implementation of this feature on GitHub.

I would suggest starting with something like Amity Square in D/P/Pt—only support one map and a limited set of Pokémon. That avoids a lot of issues with warps, Surfing, events that move the player, and so on, since you can control what happens on the single map. (This may have been Game Freak's own procedure, doing a "test run" in D/P/Pt and using their experience to write the full feature in HG/SS.)

Edit: Tri-Metal Nostalgia? How's Tri-Color Nostalgia going? Are you picking one of them to focus on? Because doing both projects at once will probably not get far with either. (That said, I think you'll have an easier time working with pokecrystal than pokered, so it might be a good idea to switch no matter what region and storyline you're doing.)

Re: [pokecrystal] Adding walking Pokémon

Right now, I'm doing most work on Tri-Color Nostalgia. I will, of course, pay attention to Tri-Metal Nostalgia from time to time, seeing that I have plenty of it before the planned release of the first Alpha thereof two and a half years from now, so that I don't end up rushing things and making it look like a right mess completely by accident.

That said, would Professor Elm's lab be a good place to test it out?

Well then, on that schedule, maybe someone will have finished the following-Pokémon code by then. :)

Prof. Elm's lab is indoors, and it has auto-running events and xy-triggered events. Try a simpler map first.

Re: [pokecrystal] Adding walking Pokémon

I was actually thinking of using an indoor map, so as to make things simpler. Perhaps I could try the Cherrygrove Pokémon Center for that purpose?

Re: [pokecrystal] Adding walking Pokémon

OK, so if I were to use the Cherrygrove Pokémon Center as a testing grounds, which of the changes in the linked-to Github commit would I need to make? Or would it be easier to list those I wouldn't need to make?
