Community Red Blue Remastered Project

Discord invite url: https://discord.gg/GNSDkBB
Repo: https://github.com/wisejustin/Red-Blue-Remastered

Hello community, I Was wondering if anyone would be interested in working together to re create Red/Blue (With Johto Postgame) to commemorate the Gen Ones 20 year anniversary (but with better post game)

What i see this project as:
-Entirely Re Scripted Kanto
-Leaf/Red sprites (OW and Backsprites)
-Original E4 Members
-Blue as rival (could carry over to johto when beaten in kanto e4? or could keep silver as johto rival?)
-Re Created lost maps IE: Currulean cave, saffari zone, cinnibar island
-Lance in Kanto's story to lead up to E4 (kinda like how gen 2 did it)
-Giovanni as gym leader (and team rocket story)
-Team Rocket kanto story

Optional: (But i personally want to be added)
-Johto Postgame
-Way to pick one Johto starter (like ORAS did with stephen asking about stones red blue green)
-way to trade wirelessly (gameyob emulator works for me but thats flashcart to flashcart so not really needed to be worked on)
-Mt Silver Update (Like a new boss trainer? or a trainer thats in the story like blue? maybe the opposite sex rival?)
-Gender Based Rival (say i pick male, rival will be female and vise versa, so 2 rivals blue and the gender opposite)
-A Battle Tower implemented to rebattle updated gyms Kanto and Johto tiers
-Roaming Kanto Birds instead of Johto Dogs
-Gold/silver in Johto Postgame main story
-Prof Elm Gives Johto Starter after beating E4 (first time into johto)
-Breeding staying in goldenrod
-Running shoes
-Bike in currulean

If anyone is interested i would love help, ive had a few mock ups of this that Mateo has helped me on and a few others but i never really had time to finish, let alone learn much about rom hacking, i have basic knowledge, not enough to do much on my own though, thats why i want this to be a community project, anyone can pitch in and whoever does i want the endgame credits to be everyone whos worked on the game! so it would basically give credit to skeetendo as a whole not just one person. comment and let me know what you think, add ideas, ect ect, i would love for this to progress and i would love to see this as a finished rom hack.

Re: Community Red Blue Remastered Project

I have a few design and miscellaneous ideas for this project. For example, I personally think the whole swimsuit thing with Misty is getting old (and I myself have made absolutely zero secret of that view of mine), so here's an alternate costume sprite I edited myself:

misty.png

Similarly, here's a sprite for Blaine which was edited by a helpful member of the PokéCommunity forums to resemble his prototype/anime looks:

blaine.png

Also, it'd be nice if there could be rematches with certain trainers, including Gym Leaders. The Gym Leaders in particular I'd like to see rematches for in different places as the story progresses (as a personal example, in my own hack I've already completely programmed a rematch against Brock in Mt. Moon for after the Cascade Badge is won, and partially programmed a rematch against Misty in Celadon City--long story).

Re: Community Red Blue Remastered Project

The sprites look great! and yea i agree, something implemented to rematch the gym leaders is a great idea and id love to use your sprites in this, but like i said i have kinda basic knowledge, lack of time due to school/work but i do want this project to be completed. Any  Help/Ideas are appreciated

I'm positive I can add the sprites in myself, if I knew where the project's files would be hosted.

for this i would want to start from scratch, i dont think my mock up's would really be much use since it was for me to kinda get used to hacking, but is still playable, and im not very good at hosting things on github, if you would like too use pokecrystal as a base though, and let other people push onto a single copy thats how i thought this could work. and always make backups before you push a new copy

If I were to go the "forking from pokecrystal" route, would I post the link here in this thread?

Yes, but I don't use it very often, if at all. Is there any other messaging system possible for you?

Blast it, I just realized I need to convert those sprites to the .2bpp.lz format! XP

Yeah, I'm gonna need some help in the Crystal sprite department right now.

Re: Community Red Blue Remastered Project

As long as the sprites are saved in .png format and have exactly 4 colors you should be able to use gfx.py from pokemon-tools to convert to .2bpp.lz

Although idk if that's really necessary because I hear that the disassembly will do the conversion automatically if you just have a properly-named .png in the folder and no .2bpp.lz (someone correct me if I'm wrong, I got that impression from a previous time where someone needed to edit Crystal sprites and asked for help.)

Re: Community Red Blue Remastered Project

I myself just got back from a movie and noticed as soon as I came back that the Discord chatroom is now live. Oh, let me know when you've gotten the sprites converted to .2BPP.LZ format so I can upload them into the pokered-remastered repository.

Re: Community Red Blue Remastered Project

Now here's something odd... I thought I mentioned an already existing repo by the name of pokered-remastered several hours ago? Clearly something needs to be worked out here... XP

I'd be glad to help out with the Spanish translation, too, and also the French, German, and Italian translations.
