Re: Pokémon Polished Crystal 2.2.0

Mmmmmm, thanks a lot for your attention to detail. Most of those bugs are fixed now. I like the suggestions to make Yanma and Murkrow more available. Bruno now uses Pinsir instead of a second Onix, and your rival doesn't have his temporary Tauros in the Radio Tower. (I was adding one Pokémon to each of his teams implying that he kept discarding weak ones.)

Nice team. You beat them with slightly lower levels than I'd expect; did you need many healing items?

I expect you'll run into more level curve issues in Kanto; please let me know if so. The Gym Leaders have a sensible curve, from 60 to 70, but the other Pokémon probably don't match it. I basically set all the wild Pokémon in Kanto to be a bit stronger than in Victory Road, levels 40–50, and bumped up some/most of the NPC trainers similarly.

Maybe I fixed this and forgot about it, but the Radio Tower Rockets' level curve seems okay. The grunts start out at 33–35, then Petrel is 37–40, grunts in the warehouse are 34–36 with a couple leader-ish grunts higher, next Proton and Ariana in the Radio Tower both have teams at levels 38–40, and finally Archer is 38–42 (which I just bumped to 39–42).

Lance should be using Full Heal and Full Restore. I don't know what part of the AI code is making him use X Spcl. Atk yet.

Re: Pokémon Polished Crystal 2.2.0

Okay, my planned features for the next release include new Pokémon (already added, Magmortar, Electivire, and Rhyperior), new trainers (classes are implemented, still need to add the individuals), new locations (have to design a good event to take you there), new moves (just Hurricane, for Pidgeot and the legendary birds, but still), and new characters (including your friendly rival). I think it warrants version 2.0.0 if all/most of them make it in.

As for which one I'm working on now:

Not really, I used a few Hyper Potions and Revives between battles but I think the only time I had to actually revive a Pokémon mid-battle was against Karen's Houndoom since I have three Pokémon that get destroyed by Fire or Dark. Mismagius swept Will and Koga, Bruno is Bruno so no trouble there, and Feraligatr swept Lance with Waterfall and Ice Fang.

Yeah, I'm already noticing this with the S.S. Aqua and Vermillion Gym battles, I think I'll avoid commenting on non-boss trainers in Kanto until you revamp it just because it's so far behind, unless I see something especially weird. So far all the trainers I've ran into besides Surge and the Saffron Gym trainers (they were all fine) are at least five levels before what I'd expect, average level 43 when 48-49 would be more fitting, a decent drop from Lance to cool things down but not laughably below it and not that far from the major NPCs like the Gym Leaders.

I think Lawrence III's introduction could be put in a better spot. I missed it at first because I surfed to the north; if you talk to him he gives his normal speech without any bugs but I think making it harder to avoid him, like if he bumped into you immediately after you exited the S.S. Aqua building, would improve his introduction.

I'd also consider either making Dodrio a normal bird sprite in Copycat's house or changing her two dolls into (non-moving) Pokémon menu icons, to keep the artstyle consistent in that room.

When I battled Sabrina and she sent out Mr. Mime, it kept using Baton Pass, allowing me to sweep its entire team because of the free turns it gave me. When she only had Mr. Mime left it continued to spam Baton Pass even though it had no effect at that point. I think it might have been because I had a Dark-type on the field.

EDIT: Well I'm surprised.

Re: Pokémon Polished Crystal 2.2.0

I have some ideas for how to tweak Lawrence III's subplot; forcing an encounter with him is a good suggestion.

My logic for the dolls is that they're cartoonish, not like real Pokémon. Same goes for the Gym statues being vaguely like Rhydon. Yes, this is just an excuse, but editing all the Gyms to use custom statues is not a priority. :P

Argh, I thought Baton Pass was only an issue when two Pokémon knew it and kept mutually switching. None of my edits to battle/ai/scoring.asm are related to Baton Pass, and nothing jumps out as potentially causing this bug. If I can't fix it by release time I may just disable Baton Pass for NPCs.

Current feature under development:

Turns out that Valerie is from Johto and has an Ecruteak accent, so this event is even more appropriate.

I posted an edit to the Valerie sprite in your thread in Help/Questions in case you haven't already seen it. Looking forward to giving this hack a try later on.

I'll be adding the Embedded Tower to Route 47 after all. No Hoenn legendary there, but there will be a special event involved.

How does the map look?

And Mystri Stage [edit: added a more complex design]:

Thanks, it's fixed. This kind of bug can be really annoying, because fixing it involves adding gatehouses to maps, but then to keep the whole region logically connected other maps have to be resized too. (If the distance between Lavender Town and Fuchsia City increases, Celadon to Fuchsia should also increase.)

Yes, i have seen some other problems also but i thought that complaining about such small things wouldn't be good.
It would have been hard for you too looking at each and every part.

No, please continue! I'd like to know these bugs exist, even if I decide it's not worth fixing them yet.

(Actually ran into a weird glitch when fixing this one. Anyone have an idea what's causing it?)

Hey, just curious, is there a reason you're using Pokemon Crystal 1.0 as a base instead of 1.1?

Re: Pokémon Polished Crystal 2.2.0

I incorporated all of 1.1's bugfixes anyway, and 1.0 is the first ROM that comes up when I Google "Pokémon Crystal ROM". It doesn't really matter, since the whole ROM is built straight from assembly and not made by hex-editing an original. It's only distributed as a patch because actual ROMs are more legally dubious and many sites don't allow them.

Before Secret Bases, GSC had decorations for your room. But most of them were only available via Mystery Gift. I've added ways to get all the dolls, plants, beds, and carpets. Here's the Home Decor wing of the Celadon City Dept. Store:

Re: Pokémon Polished Crystal 2.2.0

Can you put some other method for move tutor, i already find it hard to find silver leaf.
Like you put coins for element punches something like that well i just suggested that.
By the way the trainer with poliwrath in celadon shows the character sprite it's not like others the other problems used to disappear when i re-enter the place the the poliwrath is still the same it looked like me.(even when i rided bicycle it was also on cycle.
I just informes because it looked a bit bigger problem.
Also, in the trainer's house in viridian you have put walls in downstairs when i went down to battle and said yes to battle i directly got through wall,

Re: Pokémon Polished Crystal 2.2.0

The Silver Leaf method shouldn't be any harder than finding Shards with Dive in R/S/E. There are a couple hidden on the ground in Ilex Forest so it's easier to get Headbutt (useful for Nuzlockes). However, I will make some changes in 2.0.0:

1) Wild held item chances have been raised from 23% common/2% rare to 50% common/5% rare (like in Gen VI).
2) If your lead Pokémon holds an Amulet Coin, it'll be even more likely—60% common, 20% rare.

The Poliwrath sprite and Trainer House walls have been fixed.

How to rematch the gym leaders?
I had beaten all the gym leaders and when i went to dojo he just says that the leaders come to train but there is no one inside.
Is there something left to do before doing rematch?

No, that's only in HG/SS. The Gym Leaders in Polished Crystal appear in the Fighting Dojo at different days and times. For instance, Bugsy is there Thursday morning, Morty on Thursday night, and both of them during the day.
