Pokémon Golden

Banner.png

Hack Name: Pokémon Golden (may be changed)

Hack Of: FroggestSpirit's Pokémon Crystal Complete

Introduction:
This hack is a sequel to Pokémon Gold and Silver.  I started creating this hack because I loved the Generation II games and wanted to play them again, but after getting used to the graphics in newer games, I felt that Gen II needed an update in the graphics department.  The hack was only going to be just an improved version of Pokémon Gold originally, but now much more is planned for the hack.  Since the start of this project, the ROM base has been changed to FroggestSpirit's Crystal Complete hack.

Screenshots (From the original Gold version of the hack, images will be replaced with matching ones from the Crystal Complete version when I get around to it)

Re: Pokémon Golden

I recently discovered that Routes 33, 37, 38, and 39 had their trainer events messed up as well as the map connections of Routes 36, 37, and Ecruteak City in some situations (Depending on where you are coming from) after I opened them with JohtoMap, so the release of a current beta will be delayed.  I think I will have to restore to a backup from around May to fix the problem.  However, if you want me to release the beta in its current state, I'd be happy to.

Re: Pokémon Golden

With bugs like that, I would say wait a bit til you get them fixed to release.

Re: Pokémon Golden

Sorry I haven't posted recently, been busy with school.  I hope to have the first beta out by the end of next week.  I have completly started over using a clean rom, because I had no idea how many glitches my old rom had and every time a would release a beta on my team's site, I would find a glitch caused by JohtoMap 1.01.  Now that I have downloaded version 1.02, I have started over and hope to have a beta to release soon.  Sorry for the delay.

Your so called glitches are probably only messed up items and trainers because every time you save a map, the editor changes them into the same that normal people events use. Fast and easy to be fixed.

Re: Pokémon Golden

I know how to fix the events, I just didn't want to fix them and then add other things, release a beta, and have someone tell me there is another map connection problem, because until I release a beta, the only tester I have is me.

Re: Pokémon Golden

I just posted a map of Olivine City on the first post.  It's somewhat based off Skeetendo's Christmas Hack Olivine City.

I personally prefer hacks that improves on current games over hacks that completely change everything.

Edit: I can see one flaw.
Although the Safari Zone is in Kanto, you used a tileset from Johto.

I know about that, but if you look at Mateo's Christmas Hack, you'll see he used Tileset 1 in the Safari Zone also.

I've added some images of the National Park and Safari zone tilesets, along with Cherrygrove City, New Bark Town, and National Park maps in the first post.

Re: Pokémon Golden

Anyone got an idea what happened here?  In JohtoMap and GoldMap, this problem doesn't show up.

Image no longer available.

Re: Pokémon Golden

Looks like you overwrote your blocks. Give us more info here: What are they supposed to look like? What did you do? Did you add blocks? Did you edit some map/tileset/etc. after adding blocks?

Re: Pokémon Golden

I repointed both the block and collision data offset to a blank area of the rom, and then added more blocks to the tileset.  This is what the map should look like (Link removed by Munchulax)

I did edit the map using the new blocks.
You can see the custom tileset I am using in the first post.

Re: Pokémon Golden

Hmm, it actually seems to be pretty random. If the tiles were just offset by some constant value, you would see the correct patterns in there, but you don't. Just for clarification, are any of these blocks >= 0x80? If so, you will need to change the block loading routine, because otherwise, it will not work correctly.
Also, make sure you did not actually use a save state to load the map. This won't work when you change pointers. You will have to use a regular save game or change maps after loading a save state.

Sorry, I'm still new to this.  What does ">= 0x80" mean?

And no, I did not use a save state to load the map.

Re: Pokémon Golden

It means "greater than or equal to 0x80"... I thought maybe you extended the blocks, so you might have more than 0x80 blocks, which will not work if you don't edit the block calculations.

No, I don't have more than 0x80 blocks.

Re: Pokémon Golden

Seeing how most people will be playing this game on an emulator, is it OK to remove the trading feature in the game like Mateo did in the Skeetendo Christmas Hack?

Re: Pokémon Golden

I don't see why not, it's your hack...

No one barely trades with the originals via emulator. Go for it.

Most people only play for the plot.

Re: Pokémon Golden

Well my PC fell victim to hackers and malware. I took extreme measures this time around.

My tools and everything Pokemon related were on my other drive so thank God for that lol.
