Re: to Mateo

Save it as a bmp instead of a gif to insert it

Re: to Mateo

i figured out that that wast the pallet, but unlike on your tutorial, theres no place to enter in the offset and pointer.

Re: to Mateo

You use a pointer calculator. Type in the address you inserted the graphics and it will give you the pointer.

Re: to Mateo

I don't know, where did you tell Agixp to insert it to? The 00s we inserted at a particular address were so we could add the new ASM for the titlescreen. The graphics could be inserted anywhere there was room.

Re: to Mateo

i told it to go to 29972, the number in the parentheses next to 62B0, and i didnt know what the pointer was, so i put into what i thought it was 00C3131, but i wasnt sure. im still learning about all this stuff so thats why im getting confused. , and also, the code you told us to add into the tutorial i added to where we inserted the 00s, using 29972 in pointerberchner

Re: to Mateo

Ok, now you confused me. What number in parentheses next to 62B0?
I'm not entirely sure what you say you did, but to recap what you should be doing:

Go to the address 62B0 and type 00s like it says in the tutorial

Look in a hex editor or Tile Layer Pro and find a long stretch of blank space, which can be in any bank. There is a lot of room near the end of the rom you could use. Write down the offset you want to use.

Insert your tiles for making the titlescreen with Agixp, telling it to use the offset you wrote down for the blank space.

Go back to 62B0 and type the asm it has listed there, filling in the pointer where it says to. If you inserted your titlescreen graphics at xA4000 (which is blank space, you can use this address), then the pointer works out to be 29 00 40 with pointerberechner. So you would type 21 00 40 11 00 88  3E 29 CD F0 0A, which is plugging the pointer in as described in the tutorial.

Next step is to go to the location for the tile arrangement and tell it how to draw your titlescreen. Please note that there is not enough room in VRAM to have every tile be different on the title screen. Nintendo didn't do it this way, and neither do we unfortunately. It is rather similar to making a tileset in a way. You have to find a way to fit the Pokemon Logo, version name, and whatever else you want into the graphics.

However, it has been becoming increasingly apparent to me that the tutorial in question, originally written by Mean Mr Mustard (I pretty much just tried to clarify things a bit where he would be non descriptive and over use exclamation points) is not very well suited for newbies, and is also not the most practical as it does not support the animated pokemon anymore that original gold and silver had. I know somewhere I had a more newbie friendly tutorial, that only involved repointing the bottom part of the titlescreen (most of the pokemon logo, the version name, and the background are editable) and it keeps the moving Pokemon intact to be edited. I'll see if I can find this one and post it, and also see if I can work on combining aspects from these and maybe other things as well to make a better titlescreen tutorial with less annoyances than this one we have been using.

Re: to Mateo

I think first I will try to find the simpler tutorial and post it, as it does not have nearly as many bugs as this one has and is a lot easier to follow. But if I can't find that one, then I will try to make a video (or many many screenshot) tutorial of this one.
