Re: Pokémon Cyan ~ DEMO 1 (two Gyms) OUT

This hack looks cool, a little bit like Pokémon GRAPE, which also has a different, epic feeling, other than Pokémon RBY.

PS: Music editing is pretty easy. Just read my tutorial (below), and do what it says.

Re: Pokémon Cyan ~ DEMO 1 (two Gyms) OUT

I was interested in the asm routine that puts the phrase "This hack was made by ---" in the Main Menu (the menu in which you could choose "NEW GAME", "LOAD GAME" or "OPTIONS").

I've tried to see with BGB if the game loaded it as a menu entry but it seems that it isn't an entry, but in fact drawn text without textbox.
This is strange, I really dunno how this asm routine could work or how is it... I tried PM Tombstoner but it's like he "disappeared" from Skeetendo Forums.

Then it might be the first and the last Demo of Pokemon Cyan... (but maybe Tombstoner'll come back one day... Or maybe not...)

Re: Pokémon Cyan ~ DEMO 1 (two Gyms) OUT

GOD DAMN! Randomly revisiting stuff, I come across this place again...and I see that Cyan somehow kept a following! Hahaha. This was a fun effort. Some day I might just go back to it...I don't have the drive right now, though.

@80C You can help out if I ever pick it up again, sure. Perhaps I could give you resources to work on it yourself if you want (though I think the patched ROM should be all you need.) Thanks for the support!

@TheMoneyOfTheWorld Very interested in that music tutorial. Music editing was one of the main things I wanted to do in this but back when I tried I was very discouraged by having to enter shit byte by byte, and still running into problems. I'll see if I can find it right after this. Thanks also for the support!

@Rytizs Interesting that you say it seems like the future, because a few months ago I happened to think about making a hack where a lot of time has passed. Dunno exactly what my thought process was behind the changes in this one...the single-pixel eyes certainly make the player character look older. The rocks, if you're talking about what I think you are, are meant to block progress, because I hadn't edited any area past them.

Whew...memories. :)

EDIT: Missed this
"I was interested in the asm routine that puts the phrase "This hack was made by ---" in the Main Menu (the menu in which you could choose "NEW GAME", "LOAD GAME" or "OPTIONS")."
Now that I'm forgetting about...I remember it was something I randomly found out that was really simple. I think I just had to put a line break after "OPTION" and there was empty space in the ROM to put text. May test it out later.

Re: Pokémon Cyan ~ DEMO 1 (two Gyms) OUT

Wow, Tombstoner is back!
Welcome back to Skeetendo mate!

Uh, yep, in 2 years Pokemon Red hacking knowledge became more accurate thanks to many new resources such as the Red disassembly or many other, so now is a bit quicker make a more unique hack, yes I was interested in Cyan, some script works are new and unseen (and it was funny!).

I'm good as mapper and hack GenI in general, actually I'm taking a break from my main hack project because I finished unexpectedly my first release with a lot of anticipation - and anyway I should take a vacation too from it for a while.

Yes, I noticed a few misplaced Warp triggers in the first town - in the house maps.
I could easily adjust them and then continue with the support.
The scripts looked good, the graphics were unique (the hack has its own design and style), the only weak point seemed some maps design (but, of course, that was a demo, a lot of those were meant to be placeholders such as the barriers).

Ok, if you got resources I'll work on it.

Re: Pokémon Cyan ~ DEMO 1 (two Gyms) OUT

I see!

If you could fix the warp triggers that would be great, haha. In Kao's house maybe the hole could lead to the front door, unless there's a way to make it lead behind the house. IIRC my main source for the graphics were some sprite sheets by Mateo, so you can thank him for some of the "feel" of the game. Certainly it had it's style!

Thanks much for the support! I'll soon be checking out Grape and whatever new resources there seem to be.

Re: Pokémon Cyan ~ DEMO 1 (two Gyms) OUT

@Sherkel

Here is a zip package of Pokemon Cyan Patch that got fixed.

All warps\triggers and some parts of maps were a little fixed - for example some water borders were added to give more detail to the maps.
Now Cyan shouldn't also walk magically over the wall of Kao's lab because there's a small passage.
Everything else is unaltered just like the OG (Original) Patch.

NOTE: The patch should be applied on Pokemon Red USA - not for Pokemon Cyan.

If I missed some warps to fix, let me know.

Re: Pokémon Cyan ~ DEMO 1 (two Gyms) OUT

Thanks for the patch! Warps for the most part seem to be working better.

With the stone blocking Rent/Gent/Tent's lab removed, you can walk up the path that leads outside of it and trigger the "don't go into the grass" message, which makes him walk over weird stuff. It still gets you into the lab, though. I think I originally put the "block" there to stop that, but it's awkward either way.

For some reason, the house adjacent to Xalron's Gym leads you into your own house, and upon exiting places you outside the Gym. Maybe the house or the door could just be removed.

I happened to find another bug which may take some time to fix: if you talk to the Name Changer twice in a row, the name "Bob" will become stored in the RAM space which the "Restorer" script draws from, and thus your name gets stuck as "Bob". Easiest solution I see is a script which makes the name change not happen again until you speak to the Restorer, but I've forgotten a lot of the knowledge I'd need for that.
