Pokémon Gold - How to modify Pokémon's names?

Hi.I'am a new user.
Now,I have a question:
With AGIXP and other programs, you can modify a Pokémon on Gen 2° games.
But..how to modify names?
Example:
106btj7.png This is a screen of a my hack.
And I want to put 3°,4°,5° and 6° gen Pokémons on my hack.
But the name,is not the name of the Pokémon.
Example:I have put Plusle in place of Voltorb, and Minun in place of Electrode.
But their name are not Plusle and Minun, but Voltorb and Electrode. How to modify Pokémon's names on 2°gen?

With Hack-o-Matic by Tauwasser or with a special .tbl file for GSC characters + a hex editor supporting tbl files.

Re: Pokémon Gold - How to modify Pokémon's names?

Step by step:

Download Gold Finger (hex editor) from here (http://www.romhacking.net/utilities/204/) and open it
Click File->Open file and select your Pokemon Gold hack rom. You've now opened a gameboy rom in a hex editor. You can modify anything with a hex editor, since what you are seeing there is basically the whole game itself.
Copy the Pokemon gold text table from here (http://datacrystal.romhacking.net/wiki/Pokemon_Gold:TBL) and paste it in a text editor. Save the file as <name>.tbl. A text table associates each character with its hex equivalent in the game. For example, 'A' translates to 0x80 in hex.
In the hex editor, click File->Open table, and open the table file you just created
Click Edit->Search. Then, press Control + Tab. This will make the hex editor "understand" text as input according to the text table you've opened. Type "VOLTORB" or whatever it is the Pokemon's name you want to search. This will head you to where offset where the Pokemon's name string is located. Make sure it's surrounded by the other Pokemon names as you might have ended up in some guy's speech who says I love my Voltorb or Look at my Pikachu or whatever. If so, just click Edit->Search again until you find the string that corresponds to the name of the Pokemon itself. Then just overwrite "VOLTORB" with "MINUN", and finally fill up the name by writing 0x50 (press control+tab again to write in hex).

And... just try to learn something from this, as knowing how to use hex editor is extremely helpful for almost anything related to hacking.

Re: Pokémon Gold - How to modify Pokémon's names?

You don't need any game specific text editor. Hex editor is a whole different thing.
I could explain better but there is no need since Crystal already gave you a good step-by-step tutorial on what to do. Now is your time to experiment (on your own).
