Lots of images in posts

I like Jasmine eye‐candy as much as anyone else, but I don’t thnk making an entire tutorial out of images is a good idea. What if the image host goes down, or the images get deleted?

Re: Lots of images in posts

IIMarckus, that is a good point. Usually I don't do it that way obviously, I just though I would try it out since I was including a screenshot in every step to walk you through the process anyway, and I figured "PNGs are small, why not?" But I will keep the images saved, and will keep a text-only version handy as well.

Re: Lots of images in posts

Basically, my fear is this: it starts out small, with just having lots of unnecessary images in a tutorial. Then the text becomes part of the image, so you can’t read if the image host goes down. Then you get tutorials with a kilobyte of CSS code to make it look all fancy. Then people think it’s cute and start using it in every post. Finally it gets so bad that the admin makes a big button to turn it off.

I’m not talking about screenshots or sprite images here, just things that actually work better as text. You can’t select text in an image, or change the font size in your browser, or quote parts of it. And if the host goes down… I trust you to keep a backup, but what about people coming back in five years? Reading through old forums like Cheat And Win was always problematic because old image hosts and file hosts had disappeared in the intervening years. It would have been worse if the text of the posts had disappeared too.

Re: Lots of images in posts

I'll change it. I dont have to time to go through and do it right now, as I'm about to leave to take the car to the shop, but I'll try to get on it today.

Re: Lots of images in posts

No it's better when there's only pictures , cause it is much easier to understand, and even others who know english not much can see what they have to do. :(
and if a Picture goes down you can uplload it again, if you don't delete the picture in your computer. //

Re: Lots of images in posts

Well he wasn't saying to get rid of the screenshots, but that there was no point in making the entire tutorial out of pics. I was gonna redo it to still have the screenshots on every step, but remove the pics of Jasmine that are there for no reason and to make the text actually text, not text-on-an-image.

Re: Lots of images in posts

Since some people still don’t seem to understand:

Nobody complained about useful images like this one:
agixp-1.png

Rather, I was talking about the parts that should be done as text:
agixp-2.png

Re: Lots of images in posts

which reminds me, I never have updated that tutorial. I have non-jasmine versions of the images saved, I just need to upload them and update the thread. I'll try to remember to do it tomorrow after church.
