Using TLP for G/S titlescreen hacking.

I just learned how to change version name in Red and blue by using TLP(change view to first option and go to edit then GOTO and type some numbers) Can this method be used to change Version name in G/S? If so, then what number should I type in GOTO.

(I apologise if this has been asked before but I wanted a specific answer).

I read that already but it includes hex and it creeps me out.I was able to change Blue's without any hex editing.
(I mean without using a hex editor).

It seems that you didn't read it well or you just actually did not read it. Because on that tutorial, you will all the things you need to edit the title screen.

edit: it really impossible to edit TS without using a hex editor.

Re: Using TLP for G/S titlescreen hacking.

Haha...Open Tile editor pro---view---1BPP---(then)Edit---Goto(or scroll down)---(type offset number) and you will get to a screen with tiles "Blue version" written just erase and redraw those tiles and title is changed without
much hexes or curses...

Well technically thats also hex editing but it doesn't uses a hex editor and its short and simple.

But I am looking for changing gold version now by using this method and I know that hex means hexadecimal.

And you are right friend I didn't read that completly because I am scared of big rows of numbers and letters but I know that I will have to face them someday *sigh* well why do something today which you can do tommorow haha...

Re: Using TLP for G/S titlescreen hacking.

You're getting too intimidated.

When doing something new, you will need to do things that you don't know how to do yet. Learning new skills is only tough if you're convinced you can't.

Throw away any preconceptions you have, and don't be afraid of not knowing what to do. If you care more about the end result than your pride you'll probably be done before you know it. And it might be fun too.

This is simply not true. Here are some ways to do this that don't involve poking at random bytes.

  • A tile editor. At this point we're just talking about graphics. If you know where they're at, you can figure out if they're compressed or not, 1bpp or 2bpp, and so on.

  • bgb. Edit the code that works with your graphics in real time. Find it easily by looking at writes to vram.

  • pokecrystal. This isn't Gold, but you can edit graphics as png and edit code without worrying about shifting it.  This is especially true for pokered.

Someone wrote a title screen editor some time ago too. No one has it anymore, but it would be trivial to recreate.

Re: Using TLP for G/S titlescreen hacking.

Well thanks for encouragement I think I will have to take it more seriously from now on.
I will create an awesome Blue version hack because that was the first Pokemon game I played a long time ago.Still love that S.S anne tune.
(sorry got a little off topic back there).

Re: Using TLP for G/S titlescreen hacking.

If you wanted to change the title screen in Pokemon Blue, you would edit these graphics:

blueversion.h8.png
[gfx/blue/blueversion.h8.png]

pokemon_logo.w128.png
[gfx/pokemon_logo.w128.png]

player_title.png
[gfx/player_title.png]

To move them around, you can edit the code at:

TitleScreen: ; 42dd (1:42dd)
    ...
; Position the upper part of the Pokemon logo.
    FuncCoord 2, 1
    ...
    ; Position the lower part.
    FuncCoord 2, 7
    ...
    ; Position the copyright text.
    FuncCoord 2, 17
    ...
.titlescreenTilemap ; 437f (1:437f)
    db $41,$42,$43,$42,$44,$42,$45,$46,$47,$48,$49,$4A,$4B,$4C,$4D,$4E ; ©'95.'96.'98 GAME FREAK inc.
    ...
IF _RED
ld a,CHARMANDER ; which Pokemon to show first on the title screen
ENDC
IF _BLUE
ld a,SQUIRTLE ; which Pokemon to show first on the title screen
ENDC
Func_44dd: ; 44dd (1:44dd)
; Place Red's pic on the title screen.
; Also used for the diploma.
    ...
    lb de, $60, $5a ; y, x
    ld b, $7 ; height
    ...
    ld c, $5 ; width
Func_4524: ; 4524 (1:4524)
; Place a monster pic on the title screen.
    ...
    FuncCoord 5, 10
; prints version text (red, blue)
PrintGameVersionOnTitleScreen: ; 4598 (1:4598)
        FuncCoord 7, 8

All the other parts of the title screen and the intro are nearby (which monsters can show up, how fast the logo comes in, when Red tosses the ball, etc.).
