I want to overclock the CPU,but can it damage my PC??

IF this is incorrect or unwanted post, inform me quickly.

Hello guys.
I just got a new pc three weeks before, and i heared that by overclocking a CPU it can increese its GHz speed. My pc has a AMD Semprom 145 2.80 GHz. I heared that it can go up to 3.5 or 3.8 GHz. But i've heared that overclocking can damage the motherboard,GPU etc. I'm a bit confused someone says it's fine to do that, others say that it may burn the parts of the pc. I don't know what should i do.

EDIT: My Pc is Windows 7 Ultimate 64 bit
4 GB RAM DDR3 1600MHz
500GB HDD
A NVIDIA GeForce 7025/nForce 603 graphics card
and with a AMD Semprom 145 2.80 GHz cpu,as i mentioned it before.
And it's motherboard is ASRock N68-VS3 FX.

Thanks in Advance.

Isn't Windows 7 64-bit already fast enough? Just asking.

It is fast and it loads some games fine, but i'm afraid it can't run Dolphin emulator. That's why i want to overclock it?

Your pc should be fast enough if you simply set the power management settings to "Best performance" for the time you spend playing.
This can be done from Control Panel.

You can try booting your pc with the "Directory Services Restore Mode". You just have to press F8 (in case of windows 7) when you start your pc.
All unnecessary processes and services will be stopped which will get your CPU extra speed and the utilisation of CPU will increase. I use it every time when i have to play a heavy game and it is safe. So give it a try...
