I'm absolutely loving that titlescreen! The popup menu is also a really neat touch. Also, did you need to expand the tileset for the town map, or did you have to place some new OAM tiles?

Wow! I wonder how such advanced graphics are possible in RBY. If I am amazed only by the 4-color graphics, I can't barely imagine how cool this would be with GBC features.

When I saw the title, I'm not gonna lie I thought "Oh its a hack of Red where you play as Team Rocket? Sounds like it will be a cheap thing thrown together in a day". Then I opened the thread, and holy cow. This hack looks brilliant. I will definitely be keeping my eye on this one. Great work so far!

Thanks! For the town map, i just added a script to load in new tiles and placed them directly on the screen after the original town map routine was finished.

Thanks! I think the gray scale adds to the effect

Hahah, yeah the first one I made a few years back seems like that compared to the work I've put into this (though it took a long time; I just didn't do any asm mods and the disassembly project didn't exist). Thanks! There's plenty more to come!
Amazing hack
Thank you!

One of the best covers I've seen in a hack.

Thanks! For an update:
I have been working on some more screens the past few days (and other features that are still unannounced), but don't have any screenshots this time around. My checklist for the new screens is dwi dling, so I can get back to mapping early next month.
Just so you don't leave empty handed, here is a new feature that I plan on adding: Since you are working for Giovanni, it is only reasonable that you can earn a paycheck. I plan on having you report in to Gio every few days to report your progress.
You will receive your paycheck if you meet his schedule, but receive nothing if you do not. If you are ahead of schedule, you get a nice bonus. But if you miss any of the check ins, he will fine you as punishment.
That's all for now, maybe next week I'll update the town map info on my website to show the mayors and their specialties

For the latest update, in announcing the new types. These haven't been implemented yet, but I have everything all planned out. Of course, it's subject to change depending on everyone's response. There are 25 new types in total:
Returning types:
Fighting
Electric
Poison
Ghost
Bug
Fire
Water
Ice
Dragon
New Types:
Physical
Aero
Earth
Plant
Mind
Magic
Radio
Goo
Bone
Metal
Sound
Cosmic
Cyber
Talon
Fang
Hoof
As you can see, there is a lot of changes (and I am brainstorming ideas for attacks for all of them. I have more than enough right now but feel free to suggest any!)
The first few are just rebranding or derivatives of older types (Normal, Flying, Rock, Ground, Grass, Psychic)
The next group are fresh additions. Some are your common 'new types'. Others are completely new (to my knowledge).
You may be asking 'why are some types simply body parts?'. Well, my reasoning is this: Some types, like bug and dragon, already describe the physical characteristics of the Pokemon. Other types, like fighting, describe something that most Pokemon can do (i.e. almost all can punch or kick), but those who specialize in fighting will cause more damage. Similarly, most Pokemon can scratch or bite, but pokemon like Scyther and Arbok are going to hurt more. They also describe how a pokemon might try to defend itself, as well.
Most pokemon will be retyped, and my next update to the website will include the new types and each types strengths and weaknesses.
Let me know what you think!

This is turning out to be one hell of a hack. Well done, pokegltich :)

I aggre witi what you said.
Yes alot of pokemon can scratch or bite but only a few can cause big damage.
And for the types:
Sound,Metal,Aero,Bone(wonder if Marowak is bone type)
Also add the Aero and Cyber type.

You're right about Marowak! I'm actually planning on adding in ALL of the types I listed. Do you not think the other ones should be added?
Will u add skull type
No, but I will be adding Bone type!
I also forgot to mention, the 'Physical' type is only for attacks, no Pokemon will have this type. I never liked how some Pokemon were only a 'Normal' type anyway, so they will all have a *real* type in this game.

For me add all of them.
The more features you'll add the better the hack will become :)

Have you already planned out a Type Weakness/Resistance/Immunity chart yet? (Like Bone is supereffective against Fang, or whatever)
Offline
Thanks!
I do have a type chart, I will post it when I add the info to the website, hopefully tomorrow.

I haven't had a chance to update the website yet, but here is the preliminary type chart. Let me know what you think. Let me know if you think some types are too strong/weak/have questionable power against a certain type.
The row is for offense, the column is for defense.

And yes, the physical column and cyber row are supposed to be blank. No Pokemon will have the physical type, so it doesn't matter if any other types are strong/weak against it. And cyber is virtual, so it's attacks will not vary in strength against any types. Of course, let me know if you disagree.

Latest Update:
the website is in progress, it will be updated soon with Types, I promise!
In the meantime, thanks to the talented artists at wayofthepixel.net , I have decided to updated the battle screen to include the environment in the background. Below are two screenshots:
Everything is from the actual game EXCEPT the "face" tiles. I a mtrying to decide which style to go with. I am leaning towards the second one, but want to know your opinions.
(There are about 10 different environments that will appear as backgrounds, and yes, they will have effects in battle)
Also, I created a banner for those who are interested enough to show their support:

think I agree with you
Ngtunganh, it took a team of professional programmers, with the experience of CREATING the first gen games, 45 months to upgrade Gen 1 to Gen 2.
I am doing this by myself, in my spare time, and for free. I started with zero asm experience and the only reference I have is the Disassembly (again, with zero knowledge at the start) and it has only been 17 months.
This will take time (I constantly severely underestimate the time and work it takes to complete some tasks) and will not be done this year.
I am glad you're excited, but please be patient!

I think I like the first example the most because it looks more like a Pokékon game to me if you see the entire Pokémon miniatures instead of the faces.

Hm, that is a good point. I am just afraid that they will be too similar to the in-party sprites. I am going to try for the faces for now, but only a few more pokemon to see how it looks.

So I decided to go with the pokemon minisprites for the battle screen instead of the mugshots.
I finally updated the website to show the new battle screen, the new intro video, and the new type chart.
Let me know what you think!
