Did you use an item that could be used/given to a pokemon originally ?
I remember renaming King's Rock to some random stone and changing its ASM pointer to the one used for all the stones and in the game, it said "Able" when making the wanted pokemon evolve.

Nope, I just used some TeruSamas and they worked just fine.

Re: GSC Item Editor

Open your rom in a hex editor.

Use your hex editors Goto function to go to the address he told you

Type 00 over the byte that is already there

Save your rom

Enjoy

Re: GSC Item Editor

I actually rushed by writing that down - it will work if that byte is either 02 or 04 (checks which bit is set in bittable2).

Re: GSC Item Editor

No, item names cannot be changed with this version of the tool. That will be added in a future version. Right now you have to edit the names in a hex editor with a table file.

Sorry, just now noticed that I never re-uploaded this. In the mean time, you can download it from Swampert's Tools website.

Re: GSC Item Editor

Is there any chance this tool is glitched? (both this tool and ItemEd actually). Everything was fine in my Pokemon Crystal ROM before I used this tool, but then, I wanted to make recovery items unusable in-battle so I went to the "Can you use it" byte of some moves like Potion, to put 0x50 instead of 0x55.

It was at that point when I realised the prize of some items like X-Speed and BlackGlasses had gone up to 21761 iirc. Curiously, 21761 in dec is 5501 in hex, and that's when I thought that editing the 0x55 bytes could have had relation with this prize bug, it looked like the second byte of the prize could have changed to 55 increasing the real prize.

The issue doesn't end here however. Before knowing about the glicthes I was causing, I kept using the Item editor tool, this time to edit the prizes of some items. First I saw the bugged prize of X-speed and I thought wtf, but I kept going on. I went item by item and then I saw that the tool crashed when loading Mystic Water, and the same for Magnet. First I thought it was just a glitch of the tool but I didn't know my rom was getting bugged as well.

The worst thing happened when I open the rom in vba after I finished with the edits. The game crashed after moving like 4-6 steps and showed the "this game was desigend to be played on Game Boy Color blah blah" screen. Everytime I tried, the same. Then I opened the ROM in the item editor again, and I realized that not only some prizes have gotten bugged, but also some other bytes of some moves (effect, variable, etc).

The thing is, I think I can say it was this tool (the same happened with ItemEd as well) what caused the harm it seems, since I had a backup ROM made just before I started editing with this tool and everything was fine; I opened the rom with the editor, and I saw that X-speed had $350 and everything was fine. I also made another backup after the "can you use it edits" and before the prize edits, and saw that in this rom only the two prizes (x-speed, blackglasses. maybe there was another I dont remember) were bugged.

Re: GSC Item Editor

That's rather strange, I don't remember ever noticing those bugs before but thank you very much for reporting them. I'll see what I can do to fix this.

EDIT: Since I use it to edit Gold without these errors when changing use bytes, prices, and everything, (and since you are using Crystal) I'm going to assume that I just have it set to load the wrong start offset for items in Crystal, so that is the first place I'll be looking.

Re: GSC Item Editor

I've been looking around and it seems as though I lost the sourcecode to this tool somewhere along the way, apparently it was in a location I didn't back up when I got the new computer. But this was a simple enough tool to code and it had some other flaws as well (example, Teru-Sama all had the same name in the Item List, and so it would sometimes to jump to a different one if you were editing a Teru Sama). So when I get the chance I'll just make a new, better version of this tool. (and make sure it properly supports Gold, Silver, and Crystal next time).

Re: GSC Item Editor

Honest answer: I have no idea. I don't have a mac so I can't test it there. If Wineskin for Mac is similar enough to Wine for Linux, I could test it on that and if it works for one it might work for the other.

Re: GSC Item Editor

Why would you request that? That seems like it's your responsibility to make it work when you use an obscure OS, not the creator's.

Re: GSC Item Editor

I think I found another bug, Crystal-related. After editing the prices of some items (namely, protein, calcium, carbos and shit like that) I got this: after catching a new pokemon, one I don't have in the dex yet, there comes the message "OAK: It's not the time to use this!", then it loads the pokedex page, and then the battle restarts as if I didn't catch that pokemon.

Re: GSC Item Editor

Yeah, I would say you should assume Crystal to be un-supported at this time, and only use this tool for Gold and Silver until I get the chance to re-make this tool and add proper Crystal support (since it is clear that Crystal support is currently VERY broken). But thanks for pointing that out, I'll make sure to check for that when testing Crystal support in the next version.
