Re: Pokémon Maize [Beta 2.2 Release]

Okay I've just downloaded this and I saw Mareep only once when the old man showed how to catch Pokemon, so can I catch Mareep somewhere in this hack?

Mareep is on the route north of Jade Village, right next to the old man who showed you how to catch it.  It's fairly common, too.

I may end up using those "space" tiles for other parts of the game.  The screenshot I posted is for a relatively small area that is basically one giant easter egg.

Re: Pokémon Maize [Beta 2.2 Release]

Yeah, well I think I had to post this after playing a little bit more (or don't even post) 'cause I've found it myself, but I don't know other new Pokemon. Can you give their names? Yes I could play more and find it out, but that would be nice to know what to expect.

Re: Pokémon Maize [Beta 2.2 Release]

I recommend you to add a forest in your hack using devamped D/P tree tiles.

Re: Pokémon Maize [Beta 2.2 Release]

Yeah, I have to admit, your hack is cool and there's enough new Pokemon for me, so I think you only need to keep on the game world and I also think, that your hack needs gen. 2 graphics ('cause gen. 1 graphics are very messy)...
I've beaten the 1 gym leader ('cause I mostly trained Mareep to get Ampharos) and I'm enjoying the game. KEEP UP!

Here is a list of the new pokemon:
Skarmory (Might not be obtainable yet... can't remember)
Mareep
Flaaffy
Ampharos
Drilbur
Excadrill
Gligar
Gliscor
Murkrow
Honchkrow (I've added it, but I haven't released the patch yet)
Steelix
Scizor (Not obtainable because Scyther isn't obtainable, yet)
Houndour
Houndoom

I actually like the gen 1 graphics, so I'll be keeping the base tilesets mostly the same.  I am, however, adding new tilesets for certain areas in the game.  Although, I'm not sure if they will necessarily be gen 2 graphics.

I'm glad you're enjoying the game!

I like the suggestion, but I'm not a very good artist... so I would probably need outside help to pull something like that off.

Re: Pokémon Maize [Beta 2.2 Release]

Dude, you've added a new Pokemon in Red hack, I think you can make it.

Well not all of gen. 1 sprites are bad, but the backsprites are real mess (well, I think you got the point)

Wow, I thought, that you only added gen 2 Pokemon, but oh yeah, Drillbur!

Re: Pokémon Maize [Beta 2.2 Release]

I just released the patch for beta 1.2.  Here are the notable changes:

- Honchkrow is obtainable by using an Item Stone on Murkrow.
- Pyrite City is fully complete
- Fixed bug that stopped Growlithe from being able to evolve from a Fire Stone.
- Fixed growth rates of Starmie, Arcanine, and Exeggutor to match their pre-evolutions.

Whooaaa I never even noticed that...  I should probably fix that.

EDIT: It goes back to normal after if grows another level.  Interesting.
EDIT 2:  I fixed it and created a new patch for it.

Have you relased the 1.2 patch? If, would you like to upload it? I want to play it.

Yep, it's released. The most recent patch is beta 1.2.1, which you can download from the first post!

That's great, but if he has any updates to give, he would give them when he has them.

I've finished a few more routes (the ones that surround Copper City), but I haven't done much else.  I've been working a lot on the pokered disassembly project, so I haven't had a lot of time for Maize, unfortunately.  I have some nice plans for Maize, though.  I plan on adding Leafeon and Glaceon, complete with Moss Rock and Ice Rock.  (I'm crossing my fingers that there isn't some unforeseen challenge that would make this incredibly difficult).

Ok. Great that you are also adding Leafeon & Glaceon. What about Umbreon & Espeon? Or you added them already.

I'm not planning on adding them at the moment because I can't think of a good way to implement their evolution process.

Ah i know why you don't want to add them yet. Is it beacuse your hack does not support yet the Day/Night System?

Re: Pokémon Maize [Beta 2.2 Release]

I redid the titlescreen.  I saw the titlescreen that RED made and thought I would try something myself.  I stripped everything down, so now it's just a picture of Ampharos, and it blinks at you.  The blinking is randomly spaced out, which you can't see in the gif below because it's on a loop.  It presented some cool challenges, since I haven't ever directly dealt with drawing stuff on screen.
