Ninten Sony

Ninten Sony, cuts off the choice of player names and negatively reflects on the pallet.

I've seen this happen from time to time. The rom gets sick while you're meddling with it. I've read what I could about it but I've never found an answer as how to fix the bug when it occurs.

For someone who's dumped a lot of time into remastering a Gen 1 Blue rom this is a killer. Despite backing up, I've run off of save states only to check minor things as my hack progresses. The hack is almost complete and it will be heart breaking to have to start from my v2 when I'm at the 9th version pending beta.

Can someone please help me resolve this issue? I've had this hack on the back burner for years and I recently picked it up and started fresh on a new rom to fix some glitches. This one I can't get past and I'm afraid my hack will never get finished if I don't get this sorted out.

Any help is appreciated. Thank you.

Re: Ninten Sony

Alright. I don't know how the rom got the error, I think it may have to do with the title pokemon swapper, just an idea.

But I found the solution. While messing around with WindHex (which I use to hex edit the rom) I pulled up a comparison of the corrupt rom and the predecessor, after some trial and error I got the result I was looking for.

0000616D - A7
0000616E - EA

Those are the correct codes for the rom. If you have this error, open your hex editor and make up these two bytes. I hope this helps someone some day.

The game runs on emu but when I try to load any of swampert's tools it says unsupported rom...

New issue, same heartbreak.

!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!RE EDIT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

HAHAHA! I get myself every time. While i was messing around I loaded without a table, saw POKEMON BLUE and thought it would be cute to change it to my hack's name. This occurred to me, like most things and I changed it back. Now the rom works.

I will now go and see if it wasn't Oak's intro ed that fried my rom.

!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!FINAL EDIT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Ok, so do not use Oak's intro ed. I tried it and it failed. I don't know if any of the pokemon work and I'm tired of fooling around with it. All I know is it corrupts the game. I also don't know if they've had success in using it. If it works on Red or Yellow I don't know. But so far it doesn't work for Blue. So steer clear. And if you do get into the same mess that I did you can fix your rom with the code I provided or try changing it back to the original PkMn Nidoran (m).

Well that's all for this topic.

FAQ materials:

0000616D - A7
0000616E - EA
Notes: Don't use Oak's intro ed.

Unable to use Pokemon hacking tools:
Make sure in your rom file the name of the rom is intact in Hex.

Goodnight Skeetendo. Back to lurking.

Re: Ninten Sony

I decided to try by hand. I have no idea why the Oak intro ed tool adds the second byte but it does.

So changing byte 0000616D - from A7 to B9 gives you Oddish. Works great, tool doesn't.

So if you want to change the Pokemon while Oak is talking at the beginning you can do that. Change 0000616D to whatever byte you want. … eration_I)
