Possible solution for the spambots

http://adminextra.com/threads/list-of-t … -ban.6103/

It would appear that most of the spammers use a temporary email account, and by banning these by default, along with some of the IP Addresses that should be banned as well, would stop them from even creating accounts. If you need the list of IP's I can give those to you as well. I use this combination on my forumotion site and haven't had any problems after I plugged them in the ban list. Banning JUST his IP address won't work, since he can easily reset it if he has access to the router.

Hope this helps! :D

Re: Possible solution for the spambots

Good work. I hope that the Skeetendo Staff could put this in a sort of ban list.

Re: Possible solution for the spambots

Here's the final solution for spammers: control at the moment of the registration if they're humans or not with a more efficent anti-botspam captcha, maybe a question about pokemon that is animated - a very simple question and you must put the answer that is a word (for example: First game with Pokemon Genders - only version name-? and your answer is "Crystal" and then after all the stuff you're registered).

Anyway, there's too much spam from spambot, so, in order to prevent other spam, here's the 1\32 of the list of botspam profiles in Skeetendo forums:

aaliyaanamika
Aaron00
AaronPb
AbbieM7
AbbyA
ABebe
aBner
achsoo
Ada28
AdamJoe
AdanHb
AddiniPhede
ADenny

AlineRain
AllanIQ
AlyciaEii
alyonaolejnikX
AmparoHir
AmieAX
amaspescaft
Amee80
Anastasia
AndreasFe
AntoniaMc
AntonioDe

and so on... until the end of the list

If there was accidentally an human between this list please let us know here and then demontrate you're a human answering a simple question.

A message to botspam: try another place where spam or I'll publish the whole list with all the names and you'll be literally blasted out this forum without other advises.
---------------
Another cool thing would be make a special topic in this section in which all old members that are pratically unknown and with no post in Skeetendo Forums demonstrate being humans after responding a question OR explain how they discovered GB\C hacking and then a simple question to demonstrate they're humans.

I hope Mods will take care of this.

I left this forum.

Re: Possible solution for the spambots

You could add a question to registration that says "Pokemon #25 in the National Dex is:" and have it default to Zigzagoon or something, but they have to type Pikachu in the slot instead to be able to register.

Re: Possible solution for the spambots

It's not a good idea to kill all accounts who don't respond to the question. But a very good list for us. Also be aware of "pipweed" accounts.

Re: Possible solution for the spambots

I dont know but we need to do something about it.  I just found 2 people these last two days posting random stuff in the tools section.

Really like modding pokemon games, lego racers, super smash bros brawl, final fantasy 1, dragon warrior 1, and others.  Really don't have a lot of time right now to make game though, but I am sure I will eventually have some.

Actually they are not humans they are computers that give add here and on plenty forums like spam email. something we have to do like captcha when registering, computers dont have mind so they cant enter captcha.

Except we have a CAPTCHA. Bots are able to read it though.

Re: Possible solution for the spambots

I suggest adding blacklists, for both IP Addresses AND unusual e-mail hosts.

If the admin here are serious about stopping the spam, I can dig up the massive blacklist database I use on our forumotion site.

Another possible solution is to not let people post on the day they joined.

Let's face it, majority of people who create accounts are just here to download files, not post. However, the spammers ALWAYS post immediately after they create accounts. If you do this, they'll grow tired of waiting and spam somewhere else.

You can also disable 3rd party links for newcomers (less than a set amount of posts) until they meet a certain criteria. Seeing how spammers post links in EVERY post they make, it should stop 90% of them.

If you do all of this, I guarantee that you won't have a spamming issue.

@comet
Jastolze have reason bcause, you see people here that only post one time, or neither this.
But we can download here even if we don't make an account (i've downloaded the Tile Editor without make an account).

How about use pokecommunity rules? in the registration process admin should add a question about pokemon, that every fan should have known

What would be the drawback of implementing a "you can post only after you've been registered for a day" policy? I mean, it probably wouldn't deter that many bots but maybe some.

Yes, but by not allowing people to post third party links until they have 15 posts, they won't really be able to advertise whatever crap they're trying to sell. (directly, at least)

Pokecommunity does this, and you NEVER see a spam problem there.

Haha, that way people never will post.
Don't allow then to post, unless they post.
Ironic, love ironies.

Re: Possible solution for the spambots

/facepalm

Yes, that's very true. But also, that would probably further decrease the quality of posts by newly registered users, and cement the idea that post count is like an indication of status... I remember registering there years and years ago to post in some graphics thread, but I had to post elsewhere 15 times before I was allowed to post an image. I think that would be a bad thing in the long run, how many accounts already have an inordinate number of posts with little to no contribution whatsoever....
