Hack of: Gold

Introduction
Until I learn all about hex editing, asm, etc... and make a completely new game, I'm making the old "harder gold", although it's not only that.

Re: Pokémon Gold DX

Did you added the fair type without replacing old ones like KBM and I did?

Re: Pokémon Gold DX

This site doesn't have spoilers, right? I could put there the lists and expand them.

I didn't added it yet, but when I do, I will either include it without replacing old ones, or just replace the "???" one (the type Curse is). I don't know wich one will be easier yet.

Re: Pokémon Gold DX

Liking the changes you've come up with so far and the way you have dealt with the moves. Just finding weird that Sandstorm is the weather that makes Blizzard have 100% acc since Sand and the Ice type have no relation (and moreover sand would damage ice pokemon that would benefit for blizzard stab), but since there's no Hail in gen 2 I can understand it haha. Just a commentary.

Also, since you are altering the mechanics of the moves maybe you can also edit the stats of pokemon for balancing stuff or just to follow your own liking. You know, people don't generally toy with the pokemon stats to keep the mechanics familiar for the player but since you are already going to edit attacks and types  (and potentially learnsets too) I'd go ahead with stat changes but that's just myself. Talking about types, I also like the type changes you've come up with on those few Pokemon btw. (I never understood why Lugia was psychic type instead of water/flying and really f*** gyarados)

Just a quick question: Do you plan on keeping the secondary effects on moves like thunderbolt, shadow ball, ice beam... You didn't mention anything about that so I guess you are going to leave their secondary effects. Btw, keep in mind that making moves like fire blast/blizzard have different acc depending on the weather would require asm work but I suppose you are already aware about that anyway.

Regardless, good luck with the hack!

Or you could replace the unused bird type and then repoint the type effectiveness table to make room for the new entries.

Re: Pokémon Gold DX

@Ahe
In any case, you'll have to edit strenght\weaknesses if you're about to add\replace the new type.

Here's a tutorial that shows how to edit it (with Hex-Editing):
http://www.pokecommunity.com/showthread.php?t=83674

Anyway I can't give more info about repointing that table or point the names, because I did it only in Red and not in Gold, I never tried it on Gold yet.

Yeah, that's the reason. It could be more logical to be Rain Dance, but having already Hydro Pump and Thunder, three would be too much. Not to mention Sandstorm does nothing appart from damaging non steel, rock, ground pokemons (in gen II).

Also, since you are altering the mechanics of the moves maybe you can also edit the stats of pokemon for balancing stuff or just to follow your own liking. I'm indeed changing the stats, I put a list with some examples so far (I didn't checked all 251 pokemons yet).
And yeah, since Ho-oh is Fire, why the counterpart that is in the ocean it's not water? Also there are already Mew, Mewtwo and Celebi as psychic legendaries. And lol Gyarados, this way Lance will be a real Dragon Master, instead of Flying Master.

Just a quick question: Do you plan on keeping the secondary effects on moves like thunderbolt, shadow ball, ice beam... Yes, I'm planning on keep the secondary effects, maybe add/change some, so all moves have one, but didn't thought of that yet. About Fire Blast and Blizzard, I didn't learn any asm yet, but I suppose when I do I'll be able to change the accuracy.

Regardless, good luck with the hack!

Thanks!

Isn't Bird gen I only?

No. Bird still exists in gsc and is still type 0x06. It's just that "MissingNo." doesn't have it anymore so it isn't as famous as it was in rby.

Re: Pokémon Gold DX

Bird-type is a leftover form RBY.

I wonder if in RBY there were more leftover type in the blank slots that Nintendo removed.

Re: Pokémon Gold DX

The title screen is edited by a paint.
Look at cnydaquil and hiro sprite, it has morethan 4 colors. And if it's a OW why the arm of hiro(the white color) is not transparent.

Nice to hear the video tutorials of mine have been helpful once again :)

Anyway, good luck to making the hack, and I'll be checking this out later when you've some sort of update of the progress.

Re: Pokémon Gold DX

I didn't know that about the Bird type, so probably I'm going to replace Fairy with Bird.

Yeah, what's the deal? Gen II sprites are easily edited with paint and the eraser trick. Also, I made a title screen with 4 colours, but since this looks better and I didn't even inserted the title in the game yet...

Thanks, and it would take me some time to release a patch since it's kind of pointless at this point, because it's not very different from the original game.

Well, this is not a Red hack that needs
White - Light shade - Dark shade - Black
colors in sprites.
For Gold sprite colors are like
White - color 1 - color 2 - Black

Yeah, Always helful to learn how to hack, especially g/s/c.
Just like I did, haha!

Ps: All videos are great but run-time is very long, I haven't watched all of them yet, but I will when I get chance xD

@Ahe
Sounds like good idea to me! Do all your best, keep it up!

Re: Pokémon Gold DX

Well, I've finished editing all global text, only missing npc text.
About the Fairy type, I repointed Bird to the end of the bank and changed it to Fairy. For anyone wondering why Fairy: http://bulbapedia.bulbagarden.net/wiki/Fairy_(type)

Also, this: "As the Fairy type was introduced after physical and special were attributes assigned to individual moves rather than types, it is the only type without an associated damage category."
Which category do you think fits better? Physical or special? I think special, but haven't decided yet.

PD: Uploaded a pic of Marill with types changed.

Interesting hack, if you are going to keep the Fairy type, did you mind about Cleffa family to be included in?
