Hex editor tool problem help needed

I used to use Hex Workshop 6.7, but I discovered only at last it was trial and it expires tomorrow or 2 days later!
Is there a totally free hex editor that has the same functions & tools Workshop has OR there's a method to use that trial edition limitless without paying $90 for a program where many other tools have the same functions (exept some useful ones, such as select block, compare, fill, etc.).
Please, could someone help me?

Re: Hex editor tool problem help needed

Translhextion and GoldFinger are both free hex editors. They both support table files, and copying and pasting of data. Copying and Pasting in GoldFinger is more tedious, and you have to scroll the display left and right slightly to see everything on versions of Windows newer than XP. Translhextion is easier to copy and paste in, doesn't make you scroll side to side, but it seems to have issues with searching in larger files sometimes. Translhextion has a similar look to Hex Workshop.

I seem to remember there being a cracked version of Hex Workshop around somewhere as well, but I can't seem to find an installer on my computer right now.

Okay. Then on XP you can ignore the having to scroll side-to-side with GoldFinger.

You can find Translhextion (and several others, in case you wanted to try one of them out) at this page on Zophar's Domain.

You can find GoldFinger at this page on Romhacking.net

Thank you!
I downloaded both 'em.
Has goldfinger a box selection function like hexworkshop?

Re: Hex editor tool problem help needed

To select something in GoldFinger you have to put the cursor at the start of the data you want to select, then goto Edit -> Mark Select Begin. Then go to the end of the data and goto Edit -> Mark Select End. Hence why I said it is more tedious in Goldfinger haha.

Re: Hex editor tool problem help needed

Yeah, its easy in Translhextion. You can just click and drag the cursor to highlight an area, then right-click and choose "copy". Then it will show how many bytes you are copying and from where, and you confirm it by clicking OK (or you could change those values to copy more if you wanted). Then you go to the new area, put the cursor where you want to paste it, right-click and hit "paste". Then it pops up asking if you want to overwrite the existing data or insert new stuff in the middle. You want to overwrite (which is selected by default). It also gives you the option to paste the data multiple times, handy if you wanted to fill in placeholder block data or something.

Or you can always crack and register your version of Hex Workshop. I use Hex Workshop for most data editing, but I use Hexecute for text editing since it supports table files.
Hex Workshop doesn't support table files, does it? At least I can't figure it out.

As far as I know, Hex Workshop does not support table files. Or if it does, it doesn't seem to use the same format the other ones use.

Re: Hex editor tool problem help needed

If it could, it would eliminate all need for two hex editors because that's literally the only thing that has me using Hexecute.
That's a shame.

Re: Hex editor tool problem help needed

It does support single-byte table files. Just look at the ASCII encoding somewhere in the main folder. However, the format is so complicated and not very useful that you're better off using your own hex editor.
Also, while I don't support Hex Workshop anymore due to poor customer service, could be please not have talk about cracks and warez on this site? Get a decent hex editor and get a proper license, boys and girls!

I'm not so wealth... plus, why should I spend $90 for a tool that could be copied, & moved like every computer file... I think in some cases the purchasing of files is like pay the air you breath, aka---> profit.
