Time away

Since I'm moving soon, my internet was turned off. I'm moving next Saturday. So if someone's looking for me (which I doubt), I can only get on the internet at work. If anything, the only reason I'll be missed is Sanky missing staggerbot.

So yeah...

Re: Time away

I actually need your help.

Your latest Pokemon extender tool (from the link that you provided me) from a few weeks back works, but the game crashes on the title screen after the intro. I see in the thread that Danny is having the same problem... maybe I'm using the wrong PKMN Red ROM, what is the name of the ROM that your program was designed for???

@ Vitharix,

Yeah, I did. He can only access the Internet at work.

Please, this is between Stag and I. I am not sure what you are trying to get out of this, but ONLY state something if it answers my question. I know it's a free country and you can say what you want, but please. Thanks. :)

Re: Time away

Well... I looked at his user profile and did not see any other way to contact him. If he has an e-mail listed on here, it's hidden from me.

Also, yes. That is exactly WHY I stated that it's a free country. Somebody may think that I'm being harsh or aggressive, but I'm not (or not trying to), and they may feel like being defensive. I am very serious on here, that's all, and LIKE to stay on topic.

So I'm done explaining this and will not waste any more time (or space) on it and diverge from the topic. Thanks. :)

EDit: Just saw your post, thanks. :)

Have you tried it recently? I updated it a while back (without posting about it, but I did link to it from another thread after I fixed it). I just tested it on the computer at work and it seemed to work fine (by testing I mean it at least got past the title screen).

Re: Time away

@stag019

I have downloaded the version from here, dated 2012-08-05: http://hax.iimarck.us/topic/860/2/

If you read the post right under yours (from the link that I provided), you can see that Danny-E 33 is having the exact same problem...

Are we using the wrong version of the program, or does it require a specific Red version (as Danny suggested)?

P.S. If your version is indeed working, are there known glitches with the program, such as Professor Oak's Pokedex rating???

Try redownloading it and trying it on a clean rom. Lemme know if there are any problems.

Yes, there are problems with the Oak rating system, but I've already disassembled that and know how it works so it shouldn't be too much trouble to add that. The other thing is the seen/owned RAM addresses for Pokemon over 152. I'll work on that later.

Re: Time away

@stag019

Once again, I did download it with the same problems. It's the one dated 2012-08-05; is that the WRONG one???

I have tried on two different clean, good dump, ROMs.

p.s. I wanted to use your tool for my localized Green Version. It can be found here:

http://hax.iimarck.us/topic/3299/

I really don't want to use it with that bug in it. (I was going to use it to insert the sprites from Green.) Could you e-mail me when you fix the Professor Oak, please? No rushes mate. Thanks. :)

The date I posted the link has nothing to do with what version it is; I've always uploaded it to the same place. Like I said, it worked for me on the work's computer. It should be applied to a clean valid red or blue rom. I don't know why you're still having problems, because I fixed it. As far as the Oak's rating system, I can work on that at home without the internet; I'll let you know when it's done.

Danny: Can you try it again and see if you get the same bug?

Re: Time away

@stag019

Ok, I will be waiting to hear from you. You can also e-mail me, if you like.

Are there any other bugs besides the Oak-Pokédex rating?

One more question. The Pokédex above 152 should not affect me, seeing as there are only 151 Dex entries in my Green, right? :)

I honestly don't remember. Open up the zip file, and view the modified dates in the properties of all the files. Whatever is newest should tell you.

Re: Time away

@stag019

I tried to get it to work a few more times... worked with the sixth try!

Stag, I need to ask your opinion on something. I am ready to insert Green sprites into my game, I know there are multiple ways to do so, but I like/prefer your tool. When do you think the Oak Dex rating will be ready?

No rush or anything. Should I wait for a couple of weeks? :)

Honestly, if all you're doing is replacing the sprites, you don't really need the extender tool at all. The extender tool is really only to help make adding more Pokémon more easily. All it does is repoint all the data associated with Pokémon, but it doesn't change anything. The only useful part about it is the fact that it allows the last byte of the base stats data structure to be the bank where the picture is located. But that part of the tool can be extracted.

The Oak dex rating will only affect you if you have more than 151 Pokémon. If not, it'll work the same as before.

I've got some ideas for the compression tool (besides working on a better png to 2bpp tool) that will make it a lot easier to use (it'll still probably be command line for a while though). I'll talk more about that later though.

Re: Time away

@stag019

Ok, I'm looking at the 'pkmn2' text. I applied your complete routine. An upcoming issue that I may see:

24. Change the 0x19 bytes at 0x1638 from 0x153E01282578FEB63E0B281E78FE1F3E09381778FE4A3E0A38 to 0xB63E0B281178FEB73E0D280A78FEB83E0D2803FAD3D0C3FD24.
    This is assembly code that determines a Pokemon's front and back picture banks based on it's internal ID. This assembly makes sure the front pictures for the Areodactly and Kabutops fossil, as well as the Ghost still point to the current banks. After that, all other Pokemon use the last byte of their base stats data structure (usually 00) to determine the bank.

I am not sure if it will be or not.

The ghost sprite is the same in both versions.

The Aerodactyl fossil sprite is smaller and will fit.

The issue is with Kaputops, how will I repoint his fossil front pic with your 24th instruction? Does it take repointing that sprite into consideration?

I've been shutting down my computer when I'm not using it for now. If you get the error message, my computer is off. If you don't get it, it's on.

Until I set up some new things, I'm not likely to leave my computer on, as there's no point unless I need a persistent connection (like staggerbot, or idling in IRC).

No.

My computer isn't set up exactly the same way it was in my old house and so my server doesn't have anything it had before. None of it is lost, it just isn't working at the moment.

Read this message to see the only thing currently there (note this only works when my computer is on).

Re: Time away

@Stag019

I used your compression tool and followed the whole tutorial, but the program gives random palette assignment to the sprite, it happened to me when I was a bout to insert chikorita in Red, no matter of what order of palettes I used (white was always on the left slot in TileMolester).

Danny-E said probabilly the program assigns the palettes randomly for certain pics.
Could you fix it?

From this post.

As for the color mapping, I haven't really figured out a way to make it consistent

Also, the Pokemon Generation I Graphics Compressor works perfectly. If you get funky colours after using his compression tool, that just means you messed up the 2bpp file.

That quote is referring to his To and from 2bpp program that messes up the colours.

I didn't get funky colors, simply the black line gets exchanged with ShadowColor1 or 2 randomly.
