I feel like I've to contribute too then!
Not today but I could use my awful art skills to sprite sometime tomorrow or Friday :)

Re: Pokemon Paint!

You've inspired me.

Also, @jwibagi, I think it partly has to do with the fact that almost anyone can do a fairly crappy sprite. It's easier to get people when it's trying to look bad, lol.

Also Frog refuses to add my Dugtrio because my back sprite is 56x56. But it doesn't take that much effort to hack the game to allow 56x56 instead of 48x48. I say we should all try to convince him to allow them! :(

Also because the sprite reaches the edges and wouldn't work well at all with a white back ground. It would just look chopped off.

Re: Pokemon Paint!

I've made an uploader here that gives credit and whatnot. The problem is that it also validates your images, and a lot of you are failing to pass.

narfnrara: Your backsprites need to be 48x48. Otherwise my uploader refuses them.
TPHRyan: You're letting extra colors slip in. It's not that noticable, because they're very similar colors. For example, in Tangela, you have 3 different white shades (#FFFFFF, #FCF9F9, and #F2F2F9). Same goes for your Mew.
jxv: I honestly don't know how to solve this one without writing a complex algorithm. KolourPaint is saving your pngs as truecolor (which in itself is shocking, because that causes them to take up much more space). But GD's way of converting them to a palette image gives a palettes with colors that aren't actually used in the image...

So that leads me to this question: how should I handle color. I could
1. Keep doing it the way I'm doing it, which is using imagecolorstotal() to determine the number of colors, and downconverting true color images to palette images. This doesn't solve jxv's problem though.
2. Loop through the image and see how many colors you used. If you used more than 4, error out. This seems like a wasted loop and would take too long, but it would solve jxv's problem.
4. Regardless of how many colors you used, convert down to 4 immediately. This would fix jxv's problem (I believe, unless it does something just as stupid by picking the wrong colors). This would also fix TPHRyan's problem by converting all the near-white colors to white. However, if someone were to draw an image with black, white, red, blue, and green, for example, it would still convert down to 4 colors, potentially making the sprite look bad and whatnot. I could dither, but I don't know how much I trust GD's dithering...

@Danny-E 33: So? It's a stylistic decision to look chopped off.

Re: Pokemon Paint!

Oh, whoops. For some reason I thought backs were 40 by 40, hah. It won't happen from now on, I just forgot.

Also, doesn't Kolourpaint give you the option to save in lesser levels of color quality? Like, "24-bit color" and "256"and so on?

EDIT: I uploaded a Pineco, if that's alright with you. I plan to do Forretress and maybe Dunsparce tomorrow morning.

I feel it'd probably be easiest to still upload them here, as I got the whole archive and respective credits already, and I keep them updated everytime I check the thread.

Re: Pokemon Paint!

With all due respect, I made the thread. It's a similar situation to a hacker making a thread about a hack, and someone else trying to say how it should be done. I'm all up for ideas, but in the end, it is the hacker's decision on how they want to make it.

Well fine. I thought you sounded cool with it when I explained about it on the IRC. But whatever then.
Also narfnrara need to post Pineco here, so you have it, since he uploaded it to me without posting about it here.

Re: Pokemon Paint!

Stag019, I appreciate the idea, and at first it sounded alright, but I get a little nit-picky about some things, and I have no problem validating them as we go along like this. Don't get me wrong though, I really appreciate the contributions from you, and everyone else. I didn't think we would have this many people interested in it, and I can tell you're pretty passionate about this being finished :)

So have you fixed TPHRyan's yet? And would you have even known they were invalid if it weren't for me?

Re: Pokemon Paint!

If you mean the mew, Yes, I just took a look at it, and thank you for the heads up. It is a minor shade of off-white. I would have noticed down the road during conversion, but until then, I probably wouldn't have caught it. I'm trying to be respectful about the decision...
Also caught the same mistake on tangela

#FFFFFF is just the background colour, shouldn't that not count?

I have no idea how I ended up with two white shades, and I honestly can't be bothered getting rid of one. I don't think Paint has an easy way of fixing it...

Re: Pokemon Paint!

TPHRyan, just try to stick to the 4 colors, but you can replace specific colors by selecting the color you want to replace with the color 1 (left click) and color you want to replace it with, with the color 2 (right click) then select the eraser tool, and erase the whole image with the RIGHT click button
I took care of the submitted ones so far. Though if it happens again, don't fret too much, I'll probably have a small converter do a few fixes like that.

Two of the colors should always be #000000 and #FFFFFF. the other two can be anything you want

If you have Kolourpaint, by the way, you should be able to double click the Color Eraser to perform the action across the entire sprite just so you're sure you don't miss anything. Dunno about normal paint.

Ah, thought I could get away with that there. I just noticed that the Butterfree front is missing an antenna so I'll fix it and re-upload it at some point.
