The 20th anniversary of Pokemon will be here next year. I can't believe it has been that long. My very first game was Link's Awakening and me second game(as well as my first Pokemon game)was Silver version. My brother got two for christmas and gave me the extra one. At the time he had Blue, Yellow and Silver. I borrowed Yellow and liked it more than Silver which is weird considering the graphics were worse(battle wise). I wasn't really a fan of the anime series though, I was a Digimon fan instead. I grew up around the time when the cards and games were very popular(who knows if they still are)so I'm glad I got to experience that. Especially when I eventually got me another gameboy and a link cable and Yellow, Blue and Gold. Though I was always on punishment so playing them was in secret heheh...
What about any of you, what got you into the games? Do you still play them? Are you a fan of the anime or games or not at all?
Pokemon Blue DX is reborn!
You're a few years too early. The original Red and Green versions were released in Japan in 1996.
He probably thought it was next year because of the copyright date in Pokemon Green:
Now getting to the actual questions he asked.
I got into the games by finding a Pokemon Red cartridge at my cousin's house back in '99 or 2000. I asked to borrow her GameBoy and Red cartridge for a while and before you know it, I was hooked. Later on I also borrowed Gold from her. I still play the games today. Right now I'm playing Yellow (borrowed it from my friend and started a new game to exploit glitches on an actual cartridge) and Black 2. I used to watch the anime, and I might get back to it eventually. I stopped watching it when Hurricane Sandy hit, and I didn't go back to it after because I got busy, and the workload hasn't really let up yet.

“To live is the rarest thing in the world. Most people exist, that is all.” ― Oscar Wilde
Let's see I got into pokemon when I got VBA on my computer and I was looking for ROMs and I heard about pokemon so I thought might as well try it and I was addicted right away and I started watching the anime right away and I still do
I don't remember when i saw Pokemon for the first time. My big bro and sis were watching anime, and i was also watching lol. And my sis was playing Gold on rew emulator when i was around 5. And she never let me play too. >:o Then i was around 8 and i thought "gee, it sure is boring around here. Why not play some Pokemon?" and i downloaded pokemon gold and I'm playing pokemon to this day! Recently, i started watching anime. I'm 13 now!
I don't blame you...
I was probably 7 when they started broadcasting first season of Pokemon here. That season was actually good (unlike some newer ones) and I happened to keep watching it, just like most other kids at my age did. At that time, I also bought Pokemon Blue and Yellow for Gameboy Color.
I remember watching the whole first season of pokemon and several episodes of season II and III but then I left it behind. It took way too long for them to broadcast season 1 here so I had already (mostly) grown up out of cartoon age at the time season II while was being broadcasted.
Later on, I heard about roms and emulators which eventually brought me into playing original pokemon games again (I was never into them that much though, what I really liked to do though was to download all kinds of RPG games for Snes instead). But yeah... I eventually "learned" how to make rom hacks of my own (of which first ones aren't of pokemon, I happened to make all kinds of hard mods of Final Fantasy games and that kind of stuff) and for one reason or another, that lead me into starting that crappy map edit called Crystal Redesign in 2008.
Since the time I actually started to learn how to do something on my own (like mid 2011), I have thought about switching to starting a rom hack of some other game as well but Dark Energy as itself is almost more than one person can handle so I'll just stick with it.

I was 5 years old when I first started watching the anime. I had seen and heard about the cards, but I didn't really get it yet. Then I got some of them from my sister, (Charmander and Bellsprout, I still have em) so from there it became an obsession. I stopped watching after season 3, (Johto) but I had gotten Yellow when I was 7 so it wasn't over, then I got Crystal and later bought Silver and Red, so I had all the games I wanted so I could do the Missingno. glitch. Emulators, I first found when I was in 9th grade, and hacking followed in limited capacity after that. But it wasn't until about 2 years ago that I started to learn to actually hack, without just using tools.
I've grown up with Pokemon so it's crazy to think that it's older than I am.
I was about 9 when Red and Blue came out in America. My friends all got into it, and a friend of mine let me play his Red version one day either at recess or on the bus or something, and I was hooked. So I got Red and my brother got Blue so that we could trade and catch 'em all. Then Yellow came out and I remember thinking it was neat that you could get all the starters and have the surfing pikachu minigame and all of that. When Gold and Silver came out, I got Silver and my brother got Gold and I remember how awesome I thought Lugia was and how excited I was for the new games. Then of course I had to play it all again when Crystal came out, because Crystal seemed like it would be even cooler. By the time Ruby and Sapphire came out, I wasn't watching the anime anymore and I had already discovered roms and rom hacking (although I knew next to nothing about it) and I never actually bought any of the Gen III games, I just downloaded the roms. I remember being annoyed by how some of the features from Gold had been removed again for Ruby and Sapphire. "Why the hell did I set the clock if it doesn't really affect anything, and there is no day and night or anything?" for example. I never actually beat Gen III, although I did have a thing for Flannery (big surprise). By Gen IV I really didn't care about the new games and didn't even download platinum until recently. But then they announced Heart Gold and Soul Silver and I was all over it. Took my Pokewalker to class, everything. Right now I have a Gardevoir on my Pokewalker. She is named "Saria" and has a Naughty nature (I'm not sure what that actually does, but I thought it was funny). But I'm rambling now.
I also saw "Pokémon: The First Movie" and "Pokémon The Movie 2000" in theaters (and I still have them on VHS). I watched the anime through about Johto but stopped after that. (I did watch the episodes with Flannery though). Looking back, I was probably just getting tired of the fact that Ash is ridiculous and never grows up. (I think it would have been a much smarter move to have it follow the games more closely. You could have Red instead of Ash in Kanto, then once he is the champion the Johto season starts up with Gold and Crystal starting their journeys. After they master Johto (and maybe Kanto again) you move on to Hoenn, where you follow Brendan and May and so on. That would introduce new players with the same characters they have in the games, and you don't have the awkward situation of Ash forgetting what a Pokemon is just so that young kids can be introduced to him all over again and remaining 10 years old forever.)

Wow these are a lot of replies i didnt expect from here.
I first discovered roms in 2005 because my dad used to play them. He downloaded some for me and i found sapphire and ruby. I already had ruby and leafgreen before then by mere chance. i had ruby and sapphire and a friend had leafgreen and firered. I gave him sapphire for leafgreen.
I didnt find out about rom hacking until 2007 when i became apart of pokecommunity(first forum i was active on). And came across shiny gold, the first and only good hack i played at the time.
Somewhere down the link leafgreen and ruby were no longer in my position. So christmas of 06 i got firered and emerald.
Didnt know about diamond and pearl until i came across ds roms lol.
The last pkmn game i owned was platinum and thats when it released. Since then ive been using a flashcart to play newer pkmn games. I now have a 3ds for when x,y are released.
P.S: My brother traded my pkmn collosseum in the 6th grade :(
3d pkmn games arent that good though, i only play battle revolution for online.
Pokemon Blue DX is reborn!
You guys were fortunate huh. I came across with pokemon gaming back when I got to college(that was 2009 indeed) and played it through emulation. Haha! I got addicted right away and find a way to play it with handhelds but never had enough money to buy gba sp nor advance. Then got my first phone called nokia 6600 by 2010 though it's 2nd hand, I just discovered how to emulate gb/c and gba games with it and pursued my addiction together with that phone. For me it's history! Haha! Then got a 2nd gba sp together with a pokemon sapphire cart and an original japanese crystal cart, finished sapphire with only milotic not caught aside from pokes you can't get w/o trading coz the cart is a clone and doesn't have a working in-game clock so I can't reproduce some pamtre berry. And I can't progress with the japanese poke crystal coz it gives me nightmare just to guess what's being said inside the game. Currently my younger brothers are playing almost all the pokemon out there from gb/c to nds, hacked or not on our oldish pc and I'm playing using my N95 8GB and C3:)
