Re: Pokemon Pyrite

Hello, new user here, I just wanted to say that this hack is looking very good and I'm hyped for it.
Just a question/suggestion: do you plan to restore many of the location in Kanto that were changed, made inaccessible or shut down in GSC?
I know you have already restored places like Viridian Forest, Cerulean City and Seafoam Islands, but it would be cool to be able to enter or visit stuff like:

- Pewter Museum of Science
- Safari Zone
- Silph Co.
- Original Cinnabar Island
- TV Game Shop and Vending Machines floor in the Celadon Dept. Store
- The inaccessible floors of the Lavender Radio Tower
- The closed Underground Path in Route 7/8
- The Bike Shop.
- Other houses that does not exist anymore in the cities (like the hotel in Celadon, for example)
- Original themes for some of the cities and routes (Cerulean and Cinnabar both have the Viridian theme and the Nugget Bridge has the Route 3 theme in GSC instead of their RBY counterparts)

(Maybe I'm forgetting some other landmarks) Some of these places were already restored in the remakes and most of the places are just small or almost irrelevant things but it would be interesting to have them implemented for side-quests or simple game flavor, since all those inaccessible places made Kanto a bit barren and incomplete in Gen II/IV.

Nah, not really. To be honest, if I have implemented Viridan Forest and Cerulean Cave is moslty due to my lack of creativity and having to take ideas from R/B/Y. I just wanted to make the Kanto adventure a bit longer and more exciting. At this point I just want to finish the hack asap, and having to implement all those places won't help in this regard...

Re: Pokemon Pyrite

Just for reference, I've uploaded a generic picture showing the progress in Kanto so far. I also have a couple other things to do, but finishing with Kanto will probably take up over 80% of the work left, so I think this can be a good reference:

3nWA5j4.gif

In full color, what's left to do. Roughly 40% left.

I plan on keeping this pic more or less updated. It could be helpful for me too, to estimate time and work left.

Yeah I know most of the stuff I listed is not necessary after all (and if I had the means and the capabilities to add all of those things myself I would have alredy done that years ago), but probably to make the adventure longer places like Silph or Cinnabar would be useful, though I've seen the picture you've just posted and I'm curious to see what will be featured in the full color spots.

Re: Pokemon Pyrite

I have eveything more or less planned out already, and yes, there will be some suprises. But I don't want to give them away yet!

But in case you thought that this hack (at least the Kanto half) was supposed to be sort of a remake of RBY in a 2nd gen game, I never really intended so. I just took some maps and areas I liked from the RBY games and implemented then in my hack, just because I felt the Kanto part in GSC was pretty lackluster.

???

If the only download link available right now is a .jar, it's because I've decided to remove any download links for now. I can't remove the jar because it was uploaded by someone other than me, but it's not like I care.

Oh maybe I explained myself badly or I've been too nitpicky with the locations, I agree with you about the empty Kanto and some of the changes that appear in the game can be explained as "well 3 years passed and some things happened so it's natural that the region is different", so some of the stuff I listed is unnecessary.
But some of the locations could still be added back then in GSC since it was confirmed there was actually space and they were also planned to appear, since there are tilesets of stuff like the Pewter Museum, the Cinnabar Lab and some other places (can be seen here: http://tcrf.net/Pokémon_Gold_and_Silver/Unused_Maps), not to mention that some of those locations were actually restored in HGSS, so it would be cool to feature them with the original GSC environment, both to enhance the experience and because it was a tad frustrating to have so many inaccessible buildings in the original game.

Re: Pokemon Pyrite

Even though it looks trivial because the block data is already there, there's quite some stuff to do just to add something like pewter museum. The events, scripts, flags, text. Got to use some flags maybe actually use additional ram areas just to get more space for flags. Need a second/map header. There are some unused ones, but will i need them for something else, will I need to repoint them to make roop for additional headers?

That's a good few hours of work. Considering how much time I spend on the hack these days, it could be a week just to implement one of those places. At this point just want to get the hack finished and forget about it asap, because it's for so long been taking a lot more time than expected already and it's becoming annoying. I mean, I started it three years ago.

Hope you understand it... thanks for the suggestions though.

Re: Pokemon Pyrite

Random update for progress with more screens in OP. My current goal is to finally finish the hack within 60 days, so hopefully it's done by June.

ASM for the curious: http://pastebin.com/gVx88Uy5

So I tried to implement this using the RAW Paste you have at the bottom, but it gave me a "ERROR: main.asm(18768) :syntax error" when recompiling. What did I do wrong?

Re: Pokemon Pyrite

Change all () to [] and make sure you are writing it where it should be. For example call z, DoubleExp won't be needed because you don't need to overwrite anything if you work with pokered.

After over 3 years of work I can finally say that Pokemon Pyrite is finished! The download link of the final version of the hack is now in the OP.

I really hope that everyone that plays Pokemon Pyrite enjoys it!

Re: Pokemon Pyrite

Bug alert!

A new download link has been submitted that fixes the bug. I'd rather not give more information about what the bug is about so people who don't redownload the hack don't abuse it. It's not a gamebreaking bug and most people are not likely no discover it, but it's abusable. Redownloading the hack is recommended, as the save file/states will be compatible with the new version.

Re: Pokemon Pyrite

Holy shit what a stupid fail, I am sorry -_-. I've just fixed it. I've also checked the evolution and move data of the other pokemon to make sure everything's right. I've just reuploaded the hack; if you want to evolve your Kadabra you'll have to either download it again or, if you know how, replace the byte at 0x42d05 with 0x41 (currently 0x40) with a hex editor.
