Hack-O-Matic

Okay I can't seem to find a site where I can download Hack-O-Matic. Swampert's website is frozen and I can't access it and I can't find a download for it anywhere. Someone help me out here? XD

Re: Hack-O-Matic

My memory (which may be faulty) says that Hack‐O‐Matic is old and buggy and you don’t really want to use it. If there’s something in particular you want to edit, you should probably find another way.

Re: Hack-O-Matic

Here is a download link that contains a .RAR file with several tools used to modify a Gen 2 Rom. It includes Hack-O-Matic, but like Markus stated the program is extremely old and very buggy and frankly really isn't worth it.

Have fun.

Re: Hack-O-Matic

Well thanks, I just need something that can resize a sprite. I am using a few devamped HGSS sprites, this case a Bayleef and I just need to get it to 48x48 as its around 62x63. I tried using PS but that is not a good plan as it would lose quality and the pixels would get all messed up and won't come out right. I mean unless there is another tool that can help resize sprites without losing quality then by all means tell me so XD

Re: Hack-O-Matic

Hack-o-Matic is able to edit maps and pokemon stats, plus a few minor asm tweaks. The pokemon editor is buggy, and the map editor has issues as well. Those can be edited with Johtomap or Goldmap, and I wrote a Pokemon data editor that covers everything but TMs, because there are already other tools that edit that.

Mostly hack-o-matic would be redundant, and not worth it due to the bugs. I have no concrete proof, but I'm fairly certain hack-o-matic managed to corrupt a trainer class in my rom back in the day. After tweaking a Pokemon's stats with hack-o-matic, the game crashed any time I encountered a female rocket (other trainers were fine).

Re: Hack-O-Matic

Oh I see. I was just curious cuz I saw the tutorial on Resizing Pokemon Gold sprites and it said that Hack-o-Matic needed to be used for that. I guess if it does harm than good than I'll figure out another way. I just wanna be able to resize a bigger sprite into a smaller on without having to redo the whole thing or having the pixels mess up and it looking like crap

Re: Hack-O-Matic

Hack-o-matic dos not support resizing anything in terms of images, it let's you change which size image the game looks for on that pokemon (only up to 56 x 56 pixels though). Hack-o-matic is not an image esitor at all.

EDIT: In terms of that tutorial, that is only for changing a Pokemon who originally had a 40 x 40 or 48 x 48 sprite to load a 56 x 56, and this can be done with Pokemon Editor Ultimate without Hack-o-Matic's bugs. That (among other things) is what made me want to write Pokemon Editor Ultimate.

But when it comes to resizing the sprite itself, there is no tool to shrink an image like that and make it look good automatically. It takes practice and talent really, and time spent messing around in paint. (Yes, I reccoment Paint instead of Photoshop, as Photoshop is about the least suited program for doing pixel art that there is).

Re: Hack-O-Matic

Ah. Okay then. I'll figure out something. Really I just want this sprite to fit nicely in the game without having to mess up by shrinking it to a smaller size.

Re: Hack-O-Matic

Well, this image only needs to go down to 56x56 pixels to be a 7x7 tile sprite. All that really had to be done was shaving off some white space around the edges.
I don't think there's any problem with having the sprite up against the edges like that and this way, no real resizing has to happen.

Okay well I applied this to Bayleef, everything I did was right, choosing Vertical the palettes were correct all of that, but why is it showing up as this?

Re: Hack-O-Matic

Yeah I know. I actually tried to take his advice and try to crop the white around the sprite but the farthest I can get to is 48x55. I dunno what to do XD I really wanna use this sprite for my hack but I don't what else to do.

Oh of course! And it worked! :3

Just changed it from 66 to 77 and it shows up nicely.
