The Best Generation needs an Update...

And I plan on supplying the second gen, and eventually first gen, games with those needed upgrades.

I have put countless hours into research for possible upgrades to the Second Generation of Pokemon games, not to mention the hours I spent learning how to hex edit and hack the games ASM routines.  However there seems to be very little research into this and my knowledge is not going to increase past what it already is when it comes to this kind of thing (School, work, etc... are killing my free time and free brain space).

I would like if some experienced Hackers and developers would give me (and the community) some pointers, such as:
Upgrades you have performed and can teach
- Non-glitchy running shoes
- Better AI
- Visual Upgrades
- Glitch/Bug Fixes
- Any of those very small codes that make huge differences (Come across those a lot by accident)

Afterwards I plan on going through each game and adding a little more to each:
- All Pokemon available
- Small quests
- New Items
- A little tweaking here and there (Move balancing, Exp. Balancing, Few new Items)

Then... Boom I release the patch to the community.

Thank You

As you likely know, Koolboyman's code includes taking out the Bicycle. What I did to my hack, was to make it so that I changed the map loading processes (explained in Scripting Compendium) so that starting to play bicycle theme in various situations (07) was replaced with music check for current map (03) & play map music (08).

If you also want to make it so that Running Shoes would be given in the original bike shop instead of Bicycle, you'd have to write an additional code for checking whether you've already "gotten" them. This wasn't probably the problem you were having though.

Re: The Best Generation needs an Update...

Thanks for the input Miksy91... I'll look into the map loading processes hack.  The most bothering part was the bicycle opening up every time I closed a dialogue box.  I would however like to keep the Bicycle in the game, and make the running shoes none buggy; and I can live with the fact that the Bicycle shop Counter will not work.

If you get the time could you help me work through this?

That would require a lot more coding that Koolboyman's hack involves, and I can say straight that I would have no idea where to begin with to make this kind of add-on. All the time when you're holding B button, the game thinks you're using a bicycle but doesn't play the music because of the additional map loading hack. Of course anything is possible but this is something you don't want to try to do.

Re: The Best Generation needs an Update...

I thought I got rid of the running shoes music errors in the latest Prism release.

This is a good idea though.

I'm glad to see that I am receiving some help and some support.

koolboyman: would you mind if I took a look inside of the Prism Rom and used that running shoes code if I can find it?
