Re: Red hack: Pokémon Prototype

Yeah, not a problem. It'll have to wait a few days. I'm out of town and that list is a notepad file on my home computer. I'll post it as soon as I can. :)
While I'm at it, I'll go ahead and post the list of which Pokemon are sharing palettes, but that's at home too. :P

The sprites that didn't come from Crystal could have been because I didn't like the palette Crystal used or the pose Crystal's sprite had or both.
All of Gold and Silver's back sprites are identical. Most of the GS back sprites were put directly into Crystal, although a few of them were reshaded (some of them in order to fit the new palette) such as Spearow and Articuno. And two of the back sprites were reposed in Crystal, Golem and Rhyhorn. I much prefer the reposed Crystal back sprite for Golem, but I prefer the original GS back sprite for Rhyhorn.

And here's the list of which Pokemon/trainers are sharing a palette ID for my hack. If a Pokemon/trainer is not listed, it has a palette all to itself.
THIS LIST NO LONGER APPLIES, AS ALL POKEMON/TRAINERS NOW HAVE THEIR OWN PALETTE

Ivysaur/Venusaur
Charmander/Magikarp/Flareon/Paras
Charmeleon/Vulpix
Charizard/Gloom
Squirtle/Wartortle
Weedle/Beedrill
Kakuna/Sandshrew
Pideotto/Pidgeot/Clefairy/Clefable
Raticate/Mankey/Primeape
Fearow/Staryu
Ekans/Arbok
Pikachu/Raichu/Jolteon
Sandslash/Tauros
Nidoran M/Nidorino
Nidoking/Cloyster
Ninetales/Persion/Psyduck
Jigglypuff/Wigglytuff/Mew
Zubat/Golbat/Poliwhirl/Poliwrath
Diglett/Dugtrio
Golduck/Vaporeon/Dragonair
Growlithe/Arcanine
Abra/Kadabra/Alakazam
Machop/Machamp
Bellsprout/Weepinbell/Victreebel
Tentacool/Tentacruel/Magnemite/Magneton
Geodude/Graveler/Golem
Ponyta/Rapidash
Slowpoke/Exeggcute/Chansey/Goldeen/Ditto
Farfetch'd/Exeggutor
Doduo/Dodrio/Eevee/Kabuto/Kabutops
Seel/Seaking
Grimer/Muk
Haunter/Gengar
Hypno/Electabuzz
Krabby/Kingler
Voltorb/Electrode
Cubone/Marowak
Koffing/Weezing
Rhyhorn/Rhydon
Tengela/Porygon
Horsea/Gyarados/Dratini
Seadra/Lapras
Omanyte/Omastar

Youngster/Bug Catcher/Juggler/Juggler/Birdkeeper/Channeler
Lass/Pokemaniac/Burglar/Hiker/Agatha
Sailor/Swimmer/Beauty/Gentleman
Jr. Trainer M/Jr. Trainer F
Fisherman/Psychic/Scientist/Tamer/Blaine
Cueball/Giovanni/Blackbelt/Bruno
Rocker/Sabrina/Lorelei
Gary1/Gary2/Gary3
Rocket/Misty/Lance
Cooltrainer M/Cooltrainer F
Lt. Surge/Erika

I'm also open to anyone suggesting other efficient palette combinations to free up palette IDs in case there's one I didn't think about. :)

Okay, I am being horribly bipolar and I dont know if I should go with my recolored Yellow Zubat, or Crystal Zubat...

Re: Red hack: Pokémon Prototype

The one of Crystal looks better in my opinion but people wouldn't expect the one of Yellow (and many players wouldn't even recognize that one being picked from anywhere). I'd say, use that of Yellow. It wouldn't be so, "usual".

I also think that you should go with the Yellow one, mainly 'cause I just prefer it more.

Yeah, there are things I like and dislike about each of them..
I'll wait for a few more opinions, but I'll probably go with Yellow. Thanks guys.

Re: Red hack: Pokémon Prototype

Okay, so I'll go with the Yellow Zubat.
Also, I am officially changing "Item" to "Pack", however I think I'm gonna pass on changing the Jr. Trainers to Campers and Picnickers, because I don't want to stray too far off from the nostalgia. Campers and Picnickers seem too foreign to me.

Re: Red hack: Pokémon Prototype

I've redone the whole screenshot section. Alot of them were updated with the new font, but I also added a few new ones.
I also learned how to center "Prototype" on the titlescreen.

How did you assign multiple pallettes for one pokemon? That's great! There usually is list of pointers to pallettes in pokedex order, containing one pointer per pokemon, not per sprite. In which way did you change that?

Re-coding how the palettes are loaded. There is discussion about that elsewhere in the board already I think.

Miksy's right. You can find my palette help thread in the help/question forum. It discusses this in full, along with tons of other palette information.
To summarize, you're correct that the table of palette IDs you are referring to is read for a Pokemon's front sprite and back sprite. But stag019 helped me add in a routine for loading back sprites (which still reads from the same exact table) for the sake of giving the player back sprite a specific palette ID.
Then I figured out myself to add a piece of code into the back sprite palette loading routine that still reads from that same table for Pokemon back sprites, except before it takes the byte for the palette ID from the table based on Pokedex number, it checks if the back sprite being loaded is ID 02 or 03 (Ivysaur or Venusaur) and gives them a specific palette ID and exits without accessing the table of palette IDs.

There hasn't been any progress lately, actually. Life's been too busy. I'll work on this some more as soon as I can spare the time. Hopefully this weekend.

Hello Danny. I know that you are great hacker so I think maybe you can make pokemon blue (or red) hack in colour only with black and white pokemons and oshawott to fallow Red?

As I'm sure most of you have noticed, I have not been around much since Christmas. Senior year of high school has gotten ridiculously busy. But it's about to calm down and I only have three weeks of high school left anyway. Soon I'll be back to work.

I wanted to wish you a great last three days of high school, and much success. :)

I took a look at your hack and it looks great! Can't wait to see the final version. Also, it seems like you used stag019's Z80 routine on your sprites, no?

I'm not sure what you're talking about, but all of the big ASM Z80 changes to this hack so far are the same ones explained in the first post of my Gen I Graphics Patch.

Thanks to FroggestSpirit for helping me get "Presents" to be displayed like the original Red and Green.
And thanks to Sanqui for helping me change "Game Freak" to "Danny-E 33".
