A while back I was considering rewriting the entire Pokémon gold engine in flash while having a Pokemon Gold ROM embedded into the SWF. This was so you could edit the ROM file normally (the Flash file would read data from the Pokemon ROM such as Map Data, Text, Graphics or whatever), but edit the actual engine a lot easier and bypass the limitations of the Gameboy Color hardware.
Since I'm of course busy, would anyone be interested in contributing to this project? Does anyone else here have experience with Flash and Actionscript 3?
Here's what I have so far, it's not much and it's glitchy and some weird stuff happens for testing purposes (Using Moonstone to evolve Charizard into Squirtle) but 'eh... you'll have to refresh the page if you get stuck.
So far it's able to read maps from the Pokemon gold format (everything except map connections), calculates the Pokemon stats perfectly, partially working Pokemon and Item menus, Pokedex mostly working and a few other things.

That's an interesting approach. I remember an online Pokemon game that also had it's own engine but was based on a FireRed rom. I personally prefer the old engine for nostalgic reasons and because you can play the hacks on a real gameboy, but this sure gives you a ton of additional opportunities.

I made some updates since the last post. I think the last time I worked on this was in September.
