Start Map Editing and Map Connection editing

The Start Map Chooser for G/S/C wont load up on my computer, so I thought I would just use Goldfinger to edit it, so I was wondering if someone knew where the offset for the starting map of the game is, and how I might edit the bytes to edit the location.  Also, I'm trying to edit map connections, and I read the tutorial on here, but i'm still confused about it so I was wondering if someone could explain it maybe possibly simpler than that. Thanks in advance!

Re: Start Map Editing and Map Connection editing

I'm a beginner, I can help with the starting map, if you mean that you want to change where your house is? You could switch the warp leading out of your door with that of a building in another area (just go on Goldmap - it is really easy to use, even though it isn't the program you mentioned - then get inside the map you want, click on any warp, write down what it says, and do the same for New Bark Town at your house. Then you just switch the inside an outside of your house with the inside and outside of the other building.) Otherwise, you can just make it so that there is a door, hole, or anything else that supports warps on the tile that the player starts out standing on (again, with Goldmap), and make it lead somewhere else. It can be one way, if you just don't use a tile that supports a warp (grass, water, etc.). Since the player starts on it, I think that they always have to go on it. In case it doesn't, just make one other tile and make it so the only thing the player can do is walk off and back on, making them warp to wherever you want them to. It's a very basic way, and I don't know if it will look good, but if all else fails you can use it. I did not make Goldmap, but I think it does a good job and is very simple to use.

I haven't been on this site for a very long time. Sorry about that! >.<
I am probably not going to get very far in the ROM projects that I've started, at least until I get more experience hacking, so I apologize.

Re: Start Map Editing and Map Connection editing

Thanks for the advice Electrike, but I already knew how to do that, and it wasn't what I was looking to do, but thank you very much anyways!!
