Tales of Passion

The name is just a place holder. This is a RPG that I'm gonna be working on, I don't know if it will be XP or 2k3 yet, I despise the the DBS for XP and don't really feel like learning Ruby. Anyway, to the point.


You are a 17 year old boy who has come to terms that he is different then the others at school. He's able to see things 3rd dimensionally, instead of the usual 2 dimensional. One day, he's watching the news and the Government announed a new "Bank of the World". The boy smelled something fishy going on here because he knows how bad Government can get. He's looked into World Government and the New World Order, countless of times, and have even tried telling his friends, lo and behold, they make fun of him and taunt him for it. The boy knows that the Government is able to spy on it's citizens through the internet and social networks, so he's a bit curious if they're on to him since he knows too much. One day, he's best friend, Ali disappears, and he finds a strange note in her home.

The 17 year old boy's adventure will ensue as he tries to figure out the meaning of the signature. Emotions, spirits, friendship, love. The 17 year old boy, Luxous, is about to experience a world he's never been accustomed to in his life.

I'm thinking of making the battle system turn-based, with a "rage" like meter. It'll be your classic RPG, since those were always better in my opinion.

Those who know me may think this is a joke, it's not. The setting is identical to what I believe, so I decided to put it into a game. Fighting against tyrants, secret trained soldiers who were "created" for the sole purpose of destruction[in reference to the Manchurian Candidates], and many other things can be expected like secret occults like Illuminati and Freemasons, things that go back to the past.

There are plenty of fan-made scripts you can use for RMXP. I have seen a Rage meter script before, so I know it's possible. Don't be so scared of Ruby, it ain't that bad.

Yeah I know of the Tenkantai script and a few others, but each of them, in their own way, has bugs. I want something that won't give me an issue down the line.

The only problem I have with rm2k3 is the quality of images, but I think Irfanview could get past that.

I've came up with a suitable name.

Tales of the Ancients.

Since the game will use many Tales of sprites(and Advance Wars battle sprites like tanks), I decided to give it a "Tales of" name.

I'm glad you like it!

There will be reference of the Tales games, and I might even include cameos. But the story itself, in a way will have relevance of what is happening in the world today, in it will cover a little history, hence, Tales of the Ancients.

I also should mention that this game will be used to get me into a good college :)

Perhaps, I don't know who Luca is. In fact, I've only played about 3 or 4 games of the Tales series. Never beaten any of them, but still a fan :P ironic.

The main charcter looks a lot like Kyle from Tales of Destiny 2, in fact, he uses Kyle's battlesheet..I just gotta make it not look so much like Kyle lol. I'm having it hard finding overworlds of Kyle though...can't find them anywhere, and the one I found is decompressed from the PSP version...

Ah...I remember him from my translated version of the game on DS...there aren't any sprites for him though...and I'm no spriter...

Anyway, does that means this can feature a Tales battle system? I know its been done on 2k3 and there is a script on XP.

I do recall saying that...I forgot it was a Tales game though lol. What I meant was that all the spin-offs made brung the series down, like the PSP guild games, and Vesperia was weird.

I've only played the one with Luca, Tales of Eternia, Tales of Phantasia, Tales of whatever it was on PSP lol, the guild game. And I think that was it. I've seen gameplay on other games though. Anyway, on-topic.

No, it won't use the Tales system as it's not in any way, affiliated with the Tales series, nor was I planning on to. I am using a lot of sprites from the games and even Advance Wars sprites lke tanks. I'm using Atoa's ;atest battle system, 3.2 since I really liked it and it's flexible. The hero himself will have a liking of the games I like lol, so there will be referneces of things and maybe even meetings withs cameos, and maybe even include secret battles..kinda like how Kingdom Hearts does things with their secret battles...example being the Sephiroth battle on the first game, where he just showed up after an event.

I'd like the character to travel to parallel worlds where he meets many of the anime characters I like, maybe even send him to Castle Oblivion to fight Riku then end up back home lol. I don't know. Since it's sideview, there are plenty of dark Riku sprites that would come in handy. This is all merely speculation right now though, nothing's been decided. I've only now figured out a trick to inlcude huge(as in the same size as the Tales of sprites) into the game ^_^. After I insert some NPCs and tiles, THEN that's when I'll start getting into it. I still got to study the battle system that Atoa scripted so that I can take full advantage of it.

This is a game that I'd like to remake someday when I'm in the business.

EDIT: Oh, and I think it's worth noticing that I changed the game menu to be like FF7. It was a Chrono Trigger menu, but it takes too many resources.

Well...I have some sad news. Since I can barely find any tilesets that are like the Tales game(huge tilesets like doorways being bigger then the original things you find for XP)I'm gonna have to stick to regular size sprites and stuff...

I don't like how the sprites look on the Tales of Destiny 1 and Phantasia. And when I used the more modern sprites, I couldn't find any tilesets that are huge enough to fit the characters, like buildinds, doors, etc...

And yeah, of course! How could this be an RPG if there wasn't a sort?

The character that you'd start off with happens to be the bestfriend of the protagonist, and I'll leave it at that :D

Oh and the name changed. I think Millie sounds okay lmao.

0_o Character changes?! I'm gonna love this (seeing as that happens to be a feature in many tales games, I know this ain't a tales game but the storyline sure is somewhat similar (then again aren't all RPGS?)) looking forward to playing it. Speaking of which, I should probably work on getting some of my scripts compatible with each other...(Damn you H-Mode7!!!)

I never knew Tales had that. I decided that the game won't haven Tales references, simply because I won't be using any format(except the credits text..like you just saw) that the Tales had. I really wish I could use the sprites, considering how long it took me to find a way to insert them >_>.

But yeah, with the girl character, you got to leave the room without being seen...or you will be sacrificed to the Antagonist! MUHAHAHAHAHA!!!!


As for Mode7, I was thinking of adding that. Still might. I'm only using Atoa's battle system and FF7 script menu...so I might be able to use it. I don't know much about the scripting system to be sure.

Not mode7, H-Mode 7. Mode7 sucks.

H-Mode 7 manipulates the engine to have PSX graphics...
