Editing Options

Hi,

I'm a semi-new hacker, I like hacking only GSC and RBY. I don't know script editing for either, really, but I don't think my question is relevant to scripting.

Anyway...

How can I edit the options of the game? I want to specifically remove the option of "BATTLE STYLE:" & have it be automatically set to "SET." This way, the player cannot change it to "SHIFT."

Anyone care to help? Relevant offsets, pointers, etc appreciated.

Thanks.

Re: Editing Options

Find the text string for SHIFT and a pointer pointing to that text. Then, open the rom with an assembly editor and go to the offset where the pointer is located and recode all that stuff...

Anyway, I guess you're trying to make it so that the player isn't able to switch pokemon before the enemy trainer sends out a new one.
If that's the case, you can also use a patch I uploaded through youtube: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hrGRU1FiawM

It makes the SHIFT mode act like SET (in a way you can see in the video) but doesn't make it so that you couldn't use SET mode if you wanted to.

Re: Editing Options

That was helpful, thanks. However, I have a question about your patch. Why is it that sometimes the player is given the option to switch, and sometimes, he isn't? Either way, it doesn't tell us which pokemon is going to come out, but sometimes, it allows me to switch before they send out the next mystery pokemon.

I didn't actually test it properly so I didn't know you could do that.
Can you describe in which actual cases can you switch so I can probably fix that later?

Re: Editing Options

It seems quite random, actually. It seems to be after 2 pokemon have already been battled. I can't be sure though, haven't seen any other sort of pattern.
