Re: GS ball scene

Seeing as Gameshark uses temporary hacking via hex, I would gander it's very possible. though I'm not one to have great knowledge on it, i'm sure someone else can answer more directly.

Re: GS ball scene

Yes it's very possible by changing a single byte, although I can't remember which one lol. Should be on data crystal somewhere. One single byte needs to be changed to activate the lady at the Goldenrod Pokecenter. I did the event myself a few months ago. Here's the link I used.

http://tcrf.net/Pokemon_Crystal

I did it through the rom though, not the save. Anyway, after you changed what it tells you, go to the Pokemon center in Goldenrod, if she doesn't show, walk out and try again. She didn't show the first time for me for some reason, so I resetted and she was there. This feels A LOT better then using a gameshark.

Re: GS ball scene

I think you have a tendency to be lazy and not do any sort of research..<_<

That's for the U.S version of Pokemon Crystal, version 1(V.10)It has the script translated, just needs to be activated, I did it on my english U.S V.1.0 Crystal rom and worked.

I suggest you look at that link again as it says nothing of Pokemon Gold.

Oh...well it isn't... They were cut out, but put in Crystal. such as a couple of other things.

He should be more direct, I don't know what game he's referring to.

I know that someone made a hacked version of US Crystal that restores the Communication Center. Let me dig it up...

I don't think they were so much "cut out" of Gold as just never there in the first place. Kind of like events from Yellow weren't "cut out" of Red, they were just never there in the first place until they decided to add them in Yellow.

The GS Ball event does not exist in Gold.

If you want a GS Ball event, you will have to turn one of the Teru-Samas into a GS Ball item (Edit its name, edit its item data to match the other generic key items, change its description to say something. "The Mysterious Ball" if you want to go with what it says in Crystal.)

Then, you will have to add an event somewhere that gives you the GS Ball. You could make this be in Goldenrod's Pokemon center, or you could add it to the script in Ecruteak to where Bill gives it to you or something.

Next, you will want to edit Kurt's script so that you can show it to him and he will talk about the forest being restless and things like that. If you want to go with how it was in Crystal completely, you'll want to have him run outside as well and talk about the forest being restless out there, but that is up to you.

Then finally, you will want to make a new script for the shrine in Ilex. Currently the shrine just has a standard signpost script saying it is a shrine in honor of the forest's protector. You'll want to write a completely new script for that, so that it will check to see if you have shown the ball to kurt, got it back, and actually have it on you, and then have it do a battle with Celebi.

Sounds like a lot, I know. It's really not that hard if you already know how scripting works though.

Re: GS ball scene

Well, I don't think he's a rom hacker, otherwise I would'ave said as much lol. besides, there's no point in all that when the event itself, already exists, lest needs to be activated.

If he is talking about Gold, like it looks like by his later post, then the event does not exist in Gold Version, and cannot simply be activated. But if he just wants it in general, he can play one of the hacked Crystal Roms that adds it back in, or he can play the Christmas Hack for that matter.

Oh. Then my apologies. I keep thinking of Crystal lol. I don't see the meaning in playing Gold and not Crystal though...

I somehow remember using a cheat to get a GS Ball in Gold and capturing Celebi from Ilex Forest.

That can’t happen. It’s impossible because the GS Ball, as an item, doesn’t exist in Gold. Crystal replaced a Teru‐Sama from Gold with the GS Ball.

Re: GS ball scene

Not necessarily. From what I understand, a Gameshark can temporarily create such an event. Though I could be wrong. Plus Celebi has no overworld in Gold/Silver

Re: GS ball scene

All a gameshark code does is artificially freeze a value to a particular ram address. So it can be used to do things like give you an item, alter the item available at whatever Pokemart, etc, but it would be quite an ordeal to try to script an entire event via gameshark codes.

Re: GS ball scene

No, Gameshark temporarily writes a code that ACTS like the event, but isn't. It writes this data into random blank space, of course, after the event is finished(which, Gameshark would only give you the item, not work the event itself)the flag might get set. Or not. The item I don't has a flag, only the event that would give you the item does.

A Gameshark can activate a GS Ball event in Crystal only, because the GS Ball only exists in Crystal. It cannot activate anything GS Ball‐related in Pokémon Gold or Silver.

Actually, Mateo's right. It just alters RAM addresses. Just like how the Game Genie alters ROM addresses.

Pandocs wrote:

As far as I understand, patching is implement by hooking the original VBlank interrupt handler, and re-writing RAM values each frame. The downside is that this method steals some CPU time, also, it cannot be used to patch program code in ROM.
As far as I rememeber, somewhat 10-25 codes can be used simultaneously.

I was talking to Pia, Mateo just beat me to it lol. But we're more or less the same here. Random data, RAM, potato-potata lol.

Re: GS ball scene

I saw some code for Red that temporarily made the item MIST STONE, but as soon as you turn it off it turns into a water stone. I dunno.

It altered the RAM values corresponding to the text. It only worked for the FIRE stone, not the WATER stone, because all it had to do was F -> M, R -> S, E -> T.
