What was Nintendo thinking during the 1st gen when they heavily pixelated all their sprites?
The backsprite, the Trainers, it's ridiculous! For my hack, I'm needing a lot of sprites from B/Y. While it's fun to match the colors to the Metal Gen, it's very daunting an when making the changes the sprites start losing their feel as if they've gone through drastic changes. Backsprite especially.

Red and Green were extremely constrained for space. That’s why they used upscaled images for backpics.
Ah I see.
Well I have to say, the revemped images of Green are looking good here. I'll do Red and the Elite Four and the Gym Leaders to sometime.
I'll also upload them here.

It is possible to make the game display 8x8 backsprites.
Do you possibly want to use OW as a backsprite :D ?
Well, I wouldn't try to do that because 8x8 image can be put in the original image size.

Or are you asking for 8x8 tiles instead of 8x8 pixels?
I am not very active on this forum. I only pop in from time to time.

Oh, well...
I think it's impossible in GB/C games but GB hardware should have the answer.

In RBY/GSC, backsprites have 49 dedicated tiles in VRAM (if I'm calculating correctly!). So putting 8x8 tiles-large sprites would require that you find some free VRAM for the 15 (64 - 49) added tiles to be put (which I'm afraid is unlikely to be, unless you use the second VRAM bank, maybe).
