Editing Palletes

Yes, you might remember me asking this before. Does anyone know where the sprite palletes in gold are located? I want to specifically add in palletes  purple such as purple, yellow, etc. without editing the rock smash or berry tree palletes.

Re: Editing Palletes

My understanding is that the gameboy hardware only supports having a certain number of pallets at once, and the game already uses the maximum number for sprites. Therefore you cannot just add new ones without replacing old ones, that is why Coolboyman replaced those to add new sprite pallets in Prism as well.

Re: Editing Palletes

sprites for pokemon can use any colours. He means overworld sprites which use one of the predefined pallets, which can be edited to any colours you want.

Re: Editing Palletes

Are you talking about making a specific berry tree use a different pallet than the one it uses by default, making ALL of them use a different default pallet, or editing their default pallet to be different colours? Each of these is doable, but would be done differently.

To change the default pallet you would you edit the sprite's header and change the byte for the default pallet (the location and format for this is in the useful offsets thread)

To have one berry tree use a different sprite pallet, like the rocksmash pallet or the player's pallet or a blue pallet or something, you would simply edit the colour/function byte in the person event for the tree.

To edit the colours in the default pallet, you would first look them up in the pallet viewer of your emulator, then search for the values in a hex editor. If you are using VBA as your emulator, you will have to swap the bytes for each colour before you search for them. Then you will type new values over the old ones to replace the colours. To find new ones, you could either look at them in another rom you want to steal them from, or use a colour picker program or something.

Re: Editing Palletes

Do you need screenshots, or would a simple walkthrough be sufficient, you think?

Re: Editing Palletes

could you post a simple walkthrough in the Gen 2 documents. Screenshots would be nice but i dont want to ask for too much. You see I'm like a math book, I look at the example problems to understand what they did and how they did it, if that makes any sense

Any chance the walkthrough can be available soon?
