Evolutionary Stone Glitch

I doubt it's new information to anyone that a glitch exists in Red, Green and Blue (query Yellow) to cause any Pokémon that evolves via an evolutionary stone to evolve without that stone using a Pokémon whose internal ID matches the ID of the stone.

Here's my question: why does this work? I would check the disassembly, but it doesn't have any of the code which reads from EvosAttacksPointerTable disassembled.

I never heard about this glitch either. I'm not sure about the explanation, but my guess is that, since RAM location $CF91 is used as storing variable for many things, including pokemon IDs and items IDs, it might be mis-interpreted as item (e.g. evolutionary stone) while it refers to a pokemon instead.

That's because the code I've disassembled is still badly labeled and formatted so it needs a big clean-up. Anyway I've uploaded it here if you want to read it at its current state. Anyway, you could disassembly code on your own if you wanted to, just by using any debugger or assembly editor (or even a hex editor).

Re: Evolutionary Stone Glitch

I've actually run into that glitch before. Well technically not me myself, it was back in the day and my mom decided to play red version after hearing me and my brothers talk about it so much and seeing us play in on the super gameboy. She was raising pikachu and he evolved to Raichu by level up. The more I looked into hacking, the more I was confused by it.

She caught all 151 without gameshark too. Well, I used gameshark and got a Mew to trade her, but the rest she got legit. I was impressed.
