ShaneM's Pokemon Green Rev E (lost hack)

Since there seems to be some interest in Pokemon Green restorations, I thought I'd release Rev E of Shane's hack. He emailed it to me in 2015 for me to test but then I stopped hearing from him so the file has been sitting idly on my PC this whole time.

This revision removes the beta elements that were restored in previous revisions and removes all of Shane's creative changes, for a more accurate restoration of the original Green. Many bugs are also fixed such as the text wrap glitch and the Focus Energy glitch. Missingno is programmed into a fleshed out Pokemon, though still unobtainable through normal means (teleport/fly glitch hasn't been fixed *wink*)

It's effectively the same as Montblanc's hack https://hax.iimarckus.org/topic/6923/ but with "Pokemon!" in the SGB border and bug fixes not mentioned on Montblanc's post.

I don't have a Rev E for his Japanese Red and Blue restorations. As far as I'm aware the plan was to test Green first before applying the changes to Red and Blue.

As far as I'm aware, Shane and I are the only ones who know this revision exists. I don't want to release it without his permission, which is why I never brought it up sooner, but I haven't heard from him in nearly 4 years now.
What do you guys think I should do?

Look at it this way, if you don't share it, then it might as well never existed to begin with. Its essentially saying "I have something, that when I die, dies with me."

Re: ShaneM's Pokemon Green Rev E (lost hack)

is ok to release it as long you give credit him and others who been helping him to finish his hack. but its up to you if you want to release his hack without his permission or not we can't go crazy to release every hack of different version or unrelease hack some people can over protective of their stuff.

Where should I upload it?

I've lost my testing notes, but I have a lot of save backups at various points if anyone wants to take over

List of bug fixes I was assigned to test. IIRC some of them were fixed while others weren't. I'd rather not upload to romhacking.net until the bugfixes are confirmed.

Re: ShaneM's Pokemon Green Rev E (lost hack)

Sometimes I think ShaneM has died, but this could be only my mind. I hope he's fine.

It's a shame it is only Green, but thank you for release it, overall.
I'm not going to play it, I'm busy with Red Deluxe and Blue Deluxe, and Red Star and Blue Star as well. But I hope this can inspire someone to finish his work.

Is my dream play the entire gen 1 restored (and gen 2 as well).
If I could, I'd do myself the hacks, but I suck to programming, I don't have patience or knowledge to do it, I fully respect who can!

If anyone cares fo fullfill a childhood dream for a random trainer like me. I'll be eternally glad.

Where should I upload it though? Since a main feature is the bug fixes, I don't wanna publish to ROMhacking.net without testing those, and I just don't have the time anymore.

Re: ShaneM's Pokemon Green Rev E (lost hack)

Just upload at any good cloud site like Google Drive, OneDrive or Mediafire.
I'll backup it in my cloud as well, so, if you lost it or your link get expired or out of acess for any reason, I'll redistribute the ips file.

Thanks again.

Re: ShaneM's Pokemon Green Rev E (lost hack)

https://1drv.ms/u/s!Aq4SJgCyLoq7iaM9d6NpB1XS9_PQYA

Here it is.
ips patch, screenshots of some text errors I found and my save backups.

Hacknotes:
Restores everything from Japanese Pokemon Green to English Blue

Implements fixes for every bug listed on Bulbapedia (needs testing)

Retranslated script (a few errors as I've screen shotted)

Fully compatible with Pokemon Stadium 2, Compatible with Stadium 1 except the GB Tower (This is because Stadium 1 won't load a game over 1MB and the patch changes the ROMsize to 2MB. Stadium 2 does not have this problem as the limit was increased to accommodate the 2MB GSC games)

If using a flashcart, make sure to use one with an MBC3 chip for Stadium compatibility. Has crashes with an MBC5 cart.
*Haven't tested with an MBC1 cart, which may theoretically work due to similarities to MBC3 and the Japanese Gen1 games using MBC1.
**If you only have an MBC5 flashcart, connecting it to the Transfer Pak through a Mega Memory Card as a passthrough significantly reduces crashes for some reason.
***Also, avoid using an MBC5 patched base ROM, Stadium has more problems with it than using the wrong flashcart. A lot of ROMsites host a prepatched Blue. IIRC the prepatched file is called "Pokemon - Blue Version (UE) {S}[!].gb" ({}=[] The board has a problem with me putting [] around an S)
****This all applies to any Pokemon ROMhack or ROM with it's header changed to be recognized by Stadium.

Credit to ShaneM for singlehandedly making this. Me for (incomplete) testing.

Re: ShaneM's Pokemon Green Rev E (lost hack)

I recently downloaded this from Youtube, this seems to be the final version of ShaneM:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iK76gegzR4E

Also, he seems to be alive, since he posted something the past week.

Alexander is someone who accepted be the beta tester of Shane Mohammed's romhack. You can see posts from him at the thread of ShaneM and Montblack. His name here is Alexander86 and Shane Mohammed here is ShaneM.

I don't get why he says at the video description he is who made the hack.

Re: ShaneM's Pokemon Green Rev E (lost hack)

Found some of my testing notes

NT=Not tested F=Fixed B=Bugged(not fixed) N=New Bug P=Partially tested I=Inconclusive

Tested
1. Ball_delivery_text_overlapping F
2. Walking_with_only_fainted_Pokemon F Blacks out after one step like in Yellow.
3. Pewter_Gym_skipping F
4. Bide_errors F N Taught Bide to Butterfree and battled a Diglett. When Diglett misses with Dig on the 1st turn after Bide was activated, it doesn't come back up and stays invisible until it uses Dig again, is hit with Bide, or breaks out of a Poke Ball. Diglett does not seem to reappear under any other cirsumstance, not even to faint. Tried it again with Ivysaur using Bide and it did not ocour when Dig hit Ivysaur. Might be an old bug noone discovered yet.
5. Invisible_PC_access F N Moon Stone instead
6. Ghost_identity_unveiling F N Can't select pokemon at all
7. Ghost_Marowak_bypassing F Professor Oak will say now is not the time to use that on Poke Doll
8. Lift_Key_overworld_misplacement F Same as Yellow
9. Evolutionary_stone_bypassing P Leaf Stone bypass is fixed.
10.Cycling_Road_access_requirement_bypassing F
11. Statue_fishing F Can't fish in gyms at all, even in Misty's
12. Overworld_sprite_misplacement F
13. Gate_access_restriction F I think this bug might not exist and is just an error on bulbapedia, the video linked in the glitch description just shows bypassing one of the cycling road gates and the only other gate that can't be acessed before the pokeflute is the east fuchia city gate but the description suggests there are multiple gates with this bug. I tested it on the east fuchia gate anyway and had no problems.
14. Perpetual_spinning_animation F Technically can't test this as the save button is replaced by the reset button in safari zone
15. Statue_collision_oversight B

Untested

Ditto -- NT
Cable_Club_escape NT
Changing_NPC_sprites NT
Division_by_0 NT
Haze_opponent_crippling NT
Hall_of_Fame_corruption NT
HP_recovery_move_failure NT
Hyper_Beam_.2B_Sleep_move_glitch NT
Rhydon_glitch NT
Substitute_.2B_Confusion_glitch NT
With_Leech_Seed NT
With_Rest NT
Trapping_sleep_glitch NT
Minimize and substitute NT
Critical_hit_ratio_error NT

Additional notes:
When Misty says "You can have the Cascade Badge to show you beat me!" the sound for sending out pokemon is played.
Misty randomly changes direction when player receives TM 11 (Occurred on the ROM you sent me in VBA, didn't occur when I was playing on the ROM I patched for GB Tower)
No sound when receiving HM01.
Screen flickers as the SS Anne goes off screen.
Lt Surge puzzle is broken. Sometimes the second switch isn't next to the first switch, failing the puzzle seems to fix it.
Mew glitch is still possible with the gambler on Route 8 but seems to be fixed with the trainer on Route 24. If healed at a pokemon center before fighting the pokemon instead of the start menu appearing a dialog saying "I'm better at school than this!" appeared instead of the start menu
Night Shade works on Normal Pokemon (apparently this was intended in Gen 1)
Struggle still doesn't affect ghosts.
Pokemon appears on the menu before receiving a starter.
Glitched sound effects when forgetting a level up move, doesn't seem to occur when using HMs and TMs.

Some quotes that might need a little fixing:
One of the Rockets in Mt moon says "Team Rocket will find the fossils, revive and sell them for cash!" It sounds like Team Rocket is being revived rather than the fossils. perhaps "revive" should be "revive them"
SS Anne middle floor 2nd room from the left, a girl says "My children and I are cruising around the world. Hahaha! (laughter.)" I think it should be "My children and I are cruising around the world." As the laughing doesn't seem to have any context whatsoever.
In the first room on the left the gentleman who says "Ssh! I'm a GLOBAL POLICE agent!" I think Ssh is supposed to be spelled Shh
The gentleman who says "Have you gone to the SAFARI ZONE in FUCHSIA CITY? It had many rare kinds of POKeMON!!" should probably be saying "Have you been to the SAFARI ZONE in FUCHSIA CITY? It has many rare kinds of POKeMON!!"
Rival: "I heard there was a CUT master on board. But, he was just a seasick, old man! But, CUT itself is really useful! You should go see him! Smell ya!" Too many commas and buts, I think it should be "I heard there was a CUT master on board, but he was just a seasick old man! Though, CUT itself is really useful! You should go see him! Smell ya later!"
