Re: Pokémon Green hack/port/recreation

Hi everyone. This patch to get Green is awesome. Well done guys. I am justly making a green version in french hacking from a french Pokémon Blue rom.

I have already made several changes :
- SGB palettes
- Nidorino replacing Jigglypuff in the opening movie (like in Red)
- Version name in the title screen
- Scrolling Pokémon species list in the title screen
- Slot machine border and icons
- Swapped the Nidoran(m) to (f) trade
- Dialog window border
- Outside maps tileset (except flower animated tile)
- Cerulean Cave
(the 3 last changes, i have applied in my Red too)

I have some screenshots
opening-movie-532b857.png title-screen-532b86b.png pallet-town-532b874.png slot-machine-532b879.png nidoran-in-game-trade-532b880.png

There are some others changes i want make but i can't find how to do. The most important are Pokémon front sprites, i found how convert a .png file to .2bpp then to .pic but the problem is i don't know how insert in game because i can't find the right offsets to change in the tool. I also tried to search a text editor but that i found is supported in Gen2 games in both french and english languages and also in Gen1 games but only in english, i can't find a text editor supporting a french Gen1 rom :(
Also, i want let know that i don't want make all changes that MontBlanc & co made in their english version because i feel some changes are not necessary or are supposed to be exclusive for japaneses games including japanese Blue too.

Here changes i want to do :

Graphics:
-All 151 Pokémon front sprites
-Port the original Aerodactyl and Kabutops fossil sprites
-Port the flower animation code
-SGB border (Green only)

Text:
-Pokédex entries for all 151 species, using the official translation from Fire red
-Replace the Blue version script texts for the in-game trades (evolving Raichu)...
-Replace "BLUE" optional name by "GREEN" in the introduction
-Replace Pokémon version name at the credits (Green only)

Intro:
-Shooting star sfx
-Nidorino VS Gengar battle coordinates, sound effects (hip, hop, slash, lunge), and pause before moving to the title screen

Title screen:
-Horizontal scrolling logo
-Woosh sfx
-Red sprite, Red sprite coordinates
-Scrolling Pokémon coordinates and scrolling speed
-The first scrolling Pokémon starts moving at the beginning of the title music after the introduction notes

Like i said the most important are graphics, then text. I would love to be able to make these changes. If anyone can help me it would be much appreciated.

Thanks.

Re: Pokémon Green hack/port/recreation

Hello guys. I finally successed to change almost all pokémon front sprites in my french PokéGreen and also PokéRed. However there are 5 pokémon i can't change cause size issue and i can't change bank but i'm still glad to have already changed sucessfully 146 species (including Mew). I found the tuto in the forum to be able to change bank but i definitely missed something, i will try to figure it soon.

Maybe you need fix the copyright year at the bottom of the title screen, in green it's only 1995

Re: Pokémon Green hack/port/recreation

Thanks for the suggestion but you can see in a previous message a list of changes i want to do and like i said there are some details i won't change for reasons i explained. I won't change copyright year because only 1995 corresponds of japanese releases, this is supposed to be a french game and all french/europeans games have never the same copyright year as their japaneses releases until gen5 due to the later releases, and Europe started to know Pokémon franchise on 1999, europeans people didn't know Pokémon games yet before this year. You can even notice it differs between europeans and english/americans versions for all GB poké games. It's like Red & Green (then Blue) should have replaced the paired Red & Blue. That's why in my opinion it's better to unchange the copyright year keeping the one when Pokémon franchise first appeared in the corresponding country and not in japan. Plus this is a minor detail so not necessary to change :D

Re: Pokémon Green hack/port/recreation

It will receive more updates or this thread is dead? seems so promissory this restoration thing.

The Indigo Plateau has purple pallets in one game and blue on the other, don't know if it was intentional.

Dumb question but is there any way to get this to work with the full color hack for red/blue? Tried but just crashes the game.

I sent the submission to RHDN. Might take a few days.

This is only for English Green 2.3, by the way. I have English Red 2.3.1 but I'm not 100% sure how to go about it as far as RHDN goes. New hack page? Merge it into the current English Green page?

I don't have the Spanish patches, so someone else would have to take care of those if someone wants them.

Ammako, do you still have English Red 2.3.1? Could you upload that to RHDN? Possibly under a new hack? Montblanc's files have way past expired.

Ok, I made it for you:

http://www.mediafire.com/file/7d2ddbbay … D.ips/file

You have to use Lunar LIPS to apply this patch to a clean Pokémon Blue named:

Pokemon - Blue Version (USA, Europe).gb

The checksum is already fixed and I fixed also the ingame trades evolution bug, like in this site teached me. :)

Then the patch change the wild pokémons to the japanese Blue, the japanese Blue game corner prizes and the japanese Pokémon Blue in-game trades, with also different nicknames.

Try it soon!

Did you also restored this?

Text:

-Removed censorship (drunk Old Man, praying man at the museum, the Tunguska incident Scientist)...
-Restored a few references removed from the official translation (Kanto map, Myracle-Cycle bike store, Pokémon mansion journals written in singular and its last entry)...

Graphics:

-Replaced the SGB palettes with the originals used in the JP ROM
-Restored the Town Map border tiles
-Added the Gym Leader names to the Trainer status screen

If not, could you? please?

I don't know how do this, also 'cause I'm an hex hacker, can you try to ask who make hacks with the disassembly.

However nothing you asked is made. Not even for my italian Pokémon Green, that is however like a real retail GEN I game.

Re: Pokémon Green hack/port/recreation

Hello. I just discovered this patch on romhacking
net and registered just to post here about it. Now I haven't played it yet, but in my mind, the ideal version of an American Pokemon Green would be a third (well fourth with Yellow) version of the game, just as Blue was in Japan. This version should entail everything from Japanese Pokemon Blue THAT WAS NOT ALREADY PORTED TO ENGLISH POKEMON RED AND BLUE, plus everything that was upgraded in Japanese Green (and Red?) but NEVER in the official English RB reverted back to how it was in Red and Green. So, this is what I'd like (I realize some of this was done or may have been done already):

Changes from US Red and Blue:

Everything that was censored from the English versions is now restored. All glitches removed from Japanese versions restored to this hacked version, and all glitches originating from English versions removed.

Kanto is aesthetically redesigned, with the design of doors, signposts and other tilesets reverted to those from the Japanese Red and Green versions, although using the official English fonts and translations.
Cerulean Cave, the game's final dungeon, receives the most significant overhaul, sporting a completely different layout, again reverting to the layout from the Japanese Red and Green versions.

All Pokémon now have the old front sprites from Japanese Red and Green, but retain the same back sprites. Trainers and the literal Ghost have the same sprites from the Japanese Red and Green.

Pokémon have the old Pokédex entries from Japanese Red and Green, in English.

In-game trades are changed to different Pokémon, the same as the ones from Japanese Blue.

The man who trades the player on Cinnabar Island claims that the Kadabra he received "went and evolved."

The old man who trades the player in Cerulean City claims that the Haunter he received "went and evolved".

Game Corner prizes and slot machine icons are different, meaning whatever differences were never seen in English Red or Blue are now in this hacked version of the game.

The introduction of the game features a battle between a Gengar and a Nidorino.

The places where some Pokémon are obtainable was changed:
Jynx and Lickitung are now found in the wild.
Raticate, Clefairy and Rapidash are now found in Cerulean Cave.
Ditto is now found in Rock Tunnel.
Psyduck and Golduck do not appear on land inside the Seafoam Islands, but Psyduck can still be encountered by fishing at various locations.

A small number of glitches were reverted back to how they were in Japanese Red and Green:
A glitch that allows the player to surf from the top of a cliff was added.
A glitch where the game mistakenly believes the player has beaten Sabrina (when they actually lost to her) was added.

Everything about MissingNo has been reverted back to how it was in Japanese Red and Green.

The following Pokémon cannot be obtained without trading with another Version:
Ekans
Arbok
Vulpix
Ninetales
Mankey
Primeape
Bellsprout
Weepinbell
Victreebel
Electabuzz

The colors and Super Game Boy borders and enhancements are taken from the Japanese Green Version, but using the official English version fonts and translations.

I always thought the same thing too. We need a hack that pretty much replicates what you said and more. It can even interact with the existing versions out there as well for a nicer touch like trading and whatnot.

Re: Pokémon Green hack/port/recreation

Yeah, I think the original hack is to sort of REPLACE English blue, so to speak, as if the English games are now Red and Green. I'd much rather have a hack that keeps Red and Blue as the primary English games, but turns Japanese Blue into American "Super Green", (just like Blue's status in Japan) but replaces everything we already got here (blue upgraded graphics, blue border etc), with the stuff left out of Japanese Green/Red when brought to the US to make the original two English games.
