Yeah feel free to send me an updated patch, I just finished Episode 1 (which goes to right after Lyra teaches us how to catch Pokemon).

Will my current save be compatible with the new Patch?

If not no big deal, I haven't started uploading anything yet, and thus I can start over fairly quickly.

Here you go. Unfortunately it does break saves again; changing RAM structures unavoidably does that.

Please post a link here when your video's uploaded! :)

Pardon my terrible vocals heh, but here's episode 1 of the current Version of the game!

I'll probably miss a lot of cool nifty details, but I will explore what I can!

Re: Pokémon Polished Crystal 2.2.0

I'm testing the beta now, it's pretty good. I only have two comments. First being that a lot of the music tracks say they were composed by Junichi Masuda, I'm assuming as a placeholder, even if they weren't. You're probably already aware of this but wanted to mention it anyway. And secondly, a suggestion I have is that in addition to a Perfect IV mode, making it so there's some way to view IVs when you're not playing in this mode, if it's not too difficult to implement.

Edit: Also, are the Pokémon type/move changes the same in 3.0 as they are in 2.0? (Assuming the changes listed here are for 2.0.)

Edit 2: There seems to be a glitch when trading eggs. It appears as a "?????" on the other person's Game Boy and isn't able to be traded.

Hi, thanks for testing!

After the first few tracks were all by Junichi Masuda, I didn't bother checking all 170+ for the ones that weren't. Would you mind posting a list of the ones composed by someone else? I'll credit you for the effort.

There are a few fan games that display IVs (and EVs) as numbers, but I'd rather not, for the same reason Game Freak hasn't. It makes the Pokémon seem more like unoptimized collections of numbers than real creatures, whereas natures, characteristics, and my own color variation (IV-based) do the opposite. You can talk to the Stats Judge in Cianwood City to get a rough idea of your IVs, at least.

So far 3.0 has more changes than 2.2.0, like making Rapidash Fire/Fairy, Parasect Bug/Ghost, etc. Documentation will be rewritten for the final release.

I'll see about fixing the Egg name glitch. GSC did not allow trading Eggs, possibly for technical reasons, so I'm leaving that limitation in. You can Wonder Trade Eggs, though.

Re: Pokémon Polished Crystal 2.2.0

I'll go through it and check who composed each song. The game soundtracks themselves list who composed each track so it shouldn't be too difficult. No credit is needed.

I agree with you about the IVs, I was specifically thinking about something like Sun and Moon that gives rough estimates of each IV without giving the exact numbers (though in that game it was only viewable via the PC and unlocked in the post-game). But if you just want to relegate that to the Stats Judge rather than putting it on the status screen that's fine too. And for some reason I thought that you could trade eggs in the original games but it seems I was misremembering that.

The only suggestion I have for the new types is making Ampharos Electric/Dragon like its Mega if you haven't already, which I think would be fine since you said you're not planning to add Megas anyway Checked the source code and you already did this so nvm

I didn't list any songs with missing arrangers because I assumed that was intentional on your part, since you seem to only include people who ported the songs from other games to GSC as arrangers.

The only song I don't know the composer for is #144 Wally Appears since I couldn't find it on the OR/AS soundtrack. If anyone knows what the official title is or who the composer is, please post it in this thread.

Edit: Added #19 (forgot) and removed #168 (confused it with PWT Finals).
Edit 2: Added #112 which actually was composed by Junichi Masuda.
Edit 3: Found #144 and #152, see my next post

Re: Pokémon Polished Crystal 2.2.0

I found Wally Appears on the OR/AS soundtrack, it's called "A Path We All Must Walk" and it was composed by Shota Kageyama. I also discovered that Lugia's Song is thankfully on the Pokémon the Movie 2000 soundtrack, and the composers are listed as John Lissauer and Ralph Schuckett. I've added these to the original post.

And as I said in the post I made before listing the composers, no credit is needed. All I did was look at who composed each song in the original games' soundtracks. It still took about an hour since I didn't remember every single song but it's not a big deal.

I'm still playing through the game and may have found a few bugs, I'll post them later.

As always, there's been a lot of progress and discussion on the Polished Crystal Discord server, but I wanted to post this here too. Route 47 and 48 now have real bridges!

V3DgeQm.png

Here's the full map. You can cross over or under the bridges, just like in RSE and HGSS.

(One thing it lacks is Rock Climb in the bottom-left corner, but Pokémon Orange does have that.)

Edit: Here's a video: https://youtu.be/cnFibA-Dbpk

Edit 2: @Hello, I finally added your music composer corrections to the player. Thanks again!

I've made significant enough changes that the game data got moved around in memory, and GameShark codes depend on certain values being at certain locations. (Example: for the code 01FF57D8 to give you all the Johto badges, the Johto badge count needs to be at memory address D857.)

I could make a document of some useful codes with the new addresses, but it would probably be made irrelevant by the next release that moves data around again.

Is there a particular code you really want to use?

The only codes that I think are necessary are rare candies and masterballs. I do not enjoy the grinding in pokemon and I get frustrated by being forced to abuse the save/load feature of my rom everytime I want to catch a pokemon.

This is from the second to last version that you released but larvitar doesn't learn the 120 damage fighting move that your faq on github describes, at least not at that or the next few levels, the name of that move currently escapes me. If that change was intentional perhaps its worth noting it there because I was quite disappointed after exp sharing him up to that level and not getting the move

Here's a new feature, taken from HGSS: the Apricorn Box.

Storing Apricorns in this single Key Item frees up six more item slots, so I'm still looking what to use them for.

Cool.

You're pretty good with the hacking. :) I don't think will be necessary in my complete G/S/C project, but is however pretty to see. :)

Been playing this for a while. Some things I noticed:
- Unown Pokédex sprite is buggy
- The Pokebreeder in route 34 can be battled every time you enter the area. You can use this to farm money.
- The first sage in Ecruteak Gym said they only use ghost Pokémon which is not the truth.

Ok, I'll continue playing this.

Re: Pokémon Polished Crystal 2.2.0

Rangi,

Another update from an avid Polished Crystal gamer.

I've played through most of 3.0 now (you're latest beta) and I must say I'm continuing to love it. I got through the Johto league and the Elite Four with the impression that I was only about 1/3 of the way through the game and that was proven to be absolutely true. There is so much to do and so much that is in the works. It's very exciting!

That said, some notes on things that could be improved:
1) As people have noticed, there is a breeder before Goldenrod, one after Goldenrod, and one on Shamouti Island that you can keep challenging. Is this supposed to be the case?
2) When I cut trees, they don't respawn when I leave the area. It seems like they respawn the next day. Is this the intended behavior?
3) Is there a need for the slew of new items? I know people who play the later games know what they are, but so many seem so unnecessary.
4) You mentioned earlier that you are looking for key item slots. Perhaps one that is an 'archeology bag' to hold fossils and things to eventually get made into pokemon at the Pewter Lab. Maybe you could get it at the Ruins of Alph when you first visit and they mention 'Oh, take fossils to Pewter City in Kanto.' Or something like that.

Beyond that, Johto is pretty solid. The one place I haven't fully explored are the Whirl Islands because I only just got the Silver Wing. The one thing I noticed is that in the most recent beta, one can bypass the people blocking the path to Mahogany (the ones before you defeat Jasmine) by going through the Violet Outskirts. That concept is cool, but it does let you ignore your attempt to make the game a bit more linear. In my opinion, you should just drop the blocking people and make the trainers and wild Pokemon strong enough to deter people going in that direction before training up with the Chuck and Jasmine plot lines. And maybe just have a tag somewhere in the code that the whole Red Gyarados thing doesn't happen until the player has 6 badges.

Kanto is mostly ok. Gameplay wise, it would be nice for the gym leader pokemon to be upped in level a bit and for the trainers in the gyms to be stronger. Right now, besides the Viridian Gym, the trainers were all pretty easy, each with only one or two pokemon. To be fair, this could be said about the gyms in Johto as well, but by Kanto, the player's team should be pretty solid and the difficulty of the gyms should reflect that.

The same goes for trainers running around. I'd rather have more tougher fights than a bunch of people with just one pokemon. Especially since we can always just fly back to pokemon centers ... And, as you've noted, there are a few people that still have 'TODO' which I'm sure you know about.

Also, there is an error in the people south of Fuschia. One still comments that you have to get to Cinnabar via Pallet town after I already did that and one of the rocks that can be smashed was a washed out sprite of Lyra. Not at all sure what happened.

Where is Celadon University? Did I just miss something?

Oh, and that 'inverse fight' is rough. Holy hell.... How did you do that?

Lastly for Kanto, all the new routes are awesome. I haven't fully explored them all but the whole idea of making routes to make the world more open is awesome, both in Johto and Kanto. I think every ROM from now on should follow your lead in this. Places like the extended Cerulean Cape are just inspired.

For Shamouti, this place seems the most incomplete. There are a lot of trainers that have the default lvl 50 Bulbasaur and a lot of empty houses. I look forward to the completed Island. And maybe some cameos from characters from the movie? *wink wink nudge nudge*

I'll probably have further comments later, after I go finish out the game. Again, really stupendous work.

Cheers!

[edit] A few late game glitches:
1) I've started automatically being on my bike after being on the PC
2) The macro to automatically move me into the station of the Magnet Train stopped working once, trapping me.
3) Elm tried to give me a new pokemon, like at the beginning, trapping me in his lab.

4) While I'm at it, a huge, really weird glitch just occurred. I just entered Ilex forest to use the move tutor to get headbutt again, and I had some weird conversation with Lyra (who wasn't present) about coming back from the past. I'm not sure what happened, and I assume this is a quest that will be fully implemented at some point, but right now, it just was weird. Nothing bad happened, but it did throw me.

I created an account to just say thank you so much for the incredible work done on this mod.

The changes have reengaged my enthusiasm for Pokemon and assembly.

Gone are the days of removing characters and writing all offsets for dialogue to keep a running total of how much space i have free for mods.

Congrats and thanks once again!
