Pokémon Gold and Silver: Spaceworld ‘97

Info about one of the earliest playable demos of Gold and Silver, including the ROM itself, have been leaked very recently. I’m not part of the team, but I thought this was interesting to talk about.

A spreadsheet (NOT A ROM) is linked below:
Spaceworld Spreadsheet

I won’t be listing the ROM, but you can find it on 4chan before it’s taken down. To get the ROM to run, set $0147 to 0x10, and $014D to 0xC7. Information includes unused Pokémon sprites reminiscent of Red and Blue, MANY scrapped Pokémon like a baby Growlithe, and earlier title screens and such.

I hope the code for follower pokemon in the overworld isn't too buggy, I'd love to use that.

I think you got the wrong thread. Go to this thread here if you wanna talk about it.

Most scripts have been renamed, rewritten, and put into new places over the course of PokéCrystal’s creation, so I highly doubt it would work unless you did a LOT of rewriting.

That Noctowl sprite looks great. And Farfetch'd had a swan evolution.

I just noticed that Geodude’s backsprite is incorrect. If the backsprites at that point of development was getting the frontsprites and getting their backs, then they made a mistake with Geodude.

How so? That's clearly the back view of a Geodude.

They made a mistake when drawing his arms, as Geodude’s supposed to be seen from the back. His arms should be mirrored to be correct.

Well, that's not really a mistake, now is it? Besides, the front sprites are flipped in that first picture. When in battle, they are shown towards the left (as seen in the SGB compilation below.

Re: Pokémon Gold and Silver: Spaceworld ‘97

I'm a bit dissapointed because I wanted to find this two things on the ROM:
1- This Titlescreen:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TRjwWcspXi0

Which a fanmade mockup can be found here:
https://nidrax.deviantart.com/art/Pocke … -318431847

And another screen:

2- The female player sprite from Pokémon Crystal beta, but is still impossible to find on 1997:
https://bulbapedia.bulbagarden.net/wiki … ements.png

On the other hand, I'm so happy to see in my lifetime this, I researched an readed about this demo for so long. Never expected to see it or play it.

Re: Pokémon Gold and Silver: Spaceworld ‘97

There is a way to disassembly it to translate (adding more of only 5 characters for a pokémon name), fix the healing pokécenters, use the PC, fix the collisions and continue from the save data? In debug mode the game can save, but can't reload it and I can't find the pokémons structure and I can't save to an official game my shiny Pikachu and Rattata that I found...

A disassembly and translation are currently being worked on by the people who uncovered the ROM, including IIMarckus, but I can’t answer the other questions for you. But since headers and data are super different from the final game, I suggest that’s why you can’t trade the shinies over.

Mhh, not even in R/G/B/Y? The structure is different by both? Is a trouble...

However about the translation you know if the names will be complete or will be limited to 5 characters?

Nope to both of those questions.

Re: Pokémon Gold and Silver: Spaceworld ‘97

Ok, thank you. I hope to see soon the disassembly and the translation and maybe a way to hack it to convert it to a fully functional rom, maybe could be possible link them to the R/G/B/Y versions, I read on the web that there is a complete table conversion to links with the TIME CAPSULE with the 1st gen, I don't know if is true, but will be fine, at least to save my shiny pokémons... XD

Re: Pokémon Gold and Silver: Spaceworld ‘97

I found a way to convert a pokémon from BETA to GEN 1.
But the shininess was different in the beta, easier to find, my shiny Pikachu have incompatible IVS with the real Gold and Silver...

Re: Pokémon Gold and Silver: Spaceworld ‘97

Following these instructions:
https://tcrf.net/Proto:Pok%C3%A9mon_Gol … ion_format

I hacked the collisions, and I release a patch that should be compatible with all Proto Gold versions, maybe something isn't perfect, but I hope that could works correctly, as example now you can find pokémons in the grass where before was a wall. XD

http://www.mediafire.com/file/4d57ly7yi … bug%29.ips

Now I would unlock the evolutions that they blocked for the demo, then the starters, Hoppip and Lediba as example... Maybe you know how find the pokémon evolutions data and you tell me please? I can't wait for the disassembly to do this...

Re: Pokémon Gold and Silver: Spaceworld ‘97

Following the cutting room floor guide I restored the starting scripts, but the rival had glitch teams, then I changed it in the trainers table:

http://www.mediafire.com/file/38sawaxkg … 0fixed.ips

Now the rival is perfect and don't damage the other available trainers.

Now I need of restore all the demo features cutted out like the save/continue menu and avoid the restart of the demo if you loose, should back to the last healing place, in this case to home if the PC aren't operating...

Also is necessary remove the rival that stops the demo at the gate, maybe the events are coded to go further over the gate? We can't know it 'til remove him.

Can you help please? I did something, but I don't know where start to do the final thing.
