Re: Simple Questions & Answers

Maybe it's all the same, but shouldn't it be:

db "HT  ?", ., "??", m, -1 ;

That way, I can keep the three digit format set for the height value, right? Or perhaps I could just replace both $5e and $5f for the respective tile number of the dot and 'm'. How can I check the tile numbers?

Regarding that last part, are you talking about the dex entries of each Pokémon or something else? Couldn't find any owned Pokémon data.

Thanks in advance.

Re: Simple Questions & Answers

. and m outside the string mean nothing. When inside the quotation marks (string), they are translated to the tile number where the symbol is at in the game font (see charmap.asm). If you try building the ROM with a line like the one you posted, it will give you a syntax error. Use the one I posted before, and play around with spacing within the string as you need.

I was saying that owned Pokemon overwrite that generic string with their own height values. To be more specific, they don't overwrite that string itself (as it is hardcoded in the ROM), but rather, they overwrite the screen tiles where that string is displayed. You may need to adjust the position in which your new height digits are copied to in order to match your new format to display height (otherwise you might see something a digit overwriting the '.' or the 'm', for example).

The disassemblies are the best routes to go. Hex editing is also an option, but the disassemblies make it waaaaay easier to make. Unfortunately, this also takes up coding knowledge with the Z80-Assembly language, so it can be quite a hassle. Fortunately, the Crystal disassembly has a document that can at least inform you how Z80 works

Ok, I somehow managed to install pokecrystal on my system. I don't really understand what I'm doing, but one question; how do I make a back up of it in case I screw up all those codes.

The best option is to copy and paste before you do anything, and experiment. Also, what packages did you install for Cygwin? Those can mess you up.

I think it's python 3 language interpreter, settools, make, gettext, git, gcc-core. I don't remember if I installed anything else. I barely understand any of it.

It has been awhile since I have looked at any of this but I believe this was the guide I followed: https://www.pokecommunity.com/archive/i … 78692.html

You will want to follow it to the T.  To give you general advice:  It is telling you the error is Unknown symbol 'NEW_BARK_PARK' - this means that is not used correctly or marked in all of the correct areas.  I would suggest taking one of the existing map_const variables and searching the pokecrystal files for where all it appears.  You can adjust windows to search for a term inside of files to do this.

Another tip is to use github to show changes in a commit.  It makes it very easy to see what was there before and what has changed.

Lol, I think I know what's wrong with the code. The line

map_attributes NewBarkPark, NEW_BARK_PARK, $01, NORTH

is not aligned to the left.

Didn't notice it when working on notepad but it's pretty clear here isolated from the rest of those codes. Have to see if that's really the issue here when I'm home!

Thank you!

I think I followed everything except adding new map through crowdmap because I don't know how to run crowdmap (I'm dumb) and that didn't work either.

NEW_BARK_PARK only appear on the codes I've posted in this thread. I'm lost. :-(

Re: Simple Questions & Answers

For other maps there would be something else in place of NEW_BARK_PARK.  My suggestion is to look at another map, see what is written in its place, and search for that term.  That will help you figure out where else it would need to go.  I used crowdmap but I believe Ragni posted somewhere his method that does not involve crowdmap.  Crowdmap is nice because you can visually edit the map to what you need it to be.  It is not perfectly user friendly though.

Hey, thank you. I found Rangi's post and it is finally working so thanks alot. It turned out I have to move some of the new lines to the bottom of the file. Do you know why it works like this and does it mean I can't just add new line in the middle of everything?

Awesome!  I had a better explanation for it awhile ago.  Generally speaking the formatting and order matter a lot in pokecrystal.  It's like a programming language.

Re: Simple Questions & Answers

There is a solution also for me? To switch in the grass to a different battle type for the safari zone as example? I did the battle type (recycling the debug battle type) I want to use it in the grass area...

Sorry I haven’t tried to change that before.  Someone will help eventually, the board has gone quieter with Rangi and the others being gone for awhile

Re: Simple Questions & Answers

I'd start by looking at how the National Park enables Park battles.

The National park maps are insignificant.

When you turn on the contest flag/Bit2 (also via script talking with a simple NPC) you find contest pokémon in the grass in every map and the battle type is the contest type, but if you try to fish the battle type will be the fishing type, with the classic balls from your bag.

If you fly the flag turn off. But also if you end the time or the park balls, but in this case passing before trough the prizegiving, and you win the first prize, 'cause the game don't load random opponents if you turn on the flag without pass trough the regular contest inscription.

So just mimic that. That's exactly what I was getting at.

Maybe fixing the fishing I hope... With the contest flag turned on if you fish don't afflict the battle type. XD

And you think that will be possible set a bit to do this that could be turned off flying?

Re: Simple Questions & Answers

You'd just need to look at how fly resets the park bit and add on a similar thing to reset your safari bit. Or just don't allow Fly in the Safari Zone. If I remember, you couldn't fly in there in Gen 1 just like you can't fly from inside forests and stuff.
