Regarding the Internet and this Website...

I'm sorry guys, I really do want to leave this site for a bit and move on to personal things, but this is too important, and it needs to be spread.

If you are aware of Title II Net Neutrality and its current state as of now, skip eight paragraphs. If you're not aware of what Net Neutrality is at all or haven't been following the news lately, please read the entire paragraph.

In the year 2015, the law Title II Net Neutrality was passed. This law made it clear that the internet is free, open, accessible, and is open for everyone. I know this didn't matter prior to the law being passed, since the internet was already free, but now it really does matter.

Later on, former Verizon lawyer Ajit Pai took over the Federal Communications Commission as chairman, and is planning to repeal this law. This plan was announced before Thanksgiving, and grabbed the attention of many people on the internet.

If you don't know what the effects are, trace back to when I said the word "free" in the last paragraph. Imagine one day you go on Twitter and instead of your average tweets about Trump being a bad president, there is a pop-up that reads:

We're sorry, you haven't purchased the "Social Media" package. Please pay 4.99USD.

What takes effect is your cable providers such as: AT&T, Verizon, Comcast, etc. will become elite. They will have the granted ability to slow down your internet, block what you can see or can't see already, and create slow and fast lanes.

The following mobile applications are going to be affected by the repeal of Net Neutrality: YouTube, Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, LinkedIn, Pinterest, Skype, Spotify, Pandora, Amazon,eBay, Google, Chrome, Google Drive, Gmail, Netflix, Tumblr, WhatsApp, Google Play, Google Play Music, Snapchat, SoundCloud, iCloud (iOS), Yahoo!, Amazon Cloud, Phone messaging, Facetime (iOS), Twitch, PornHub (Android app) (I'm not laughing), and phone provider applications...

...and the following companies are fighting back: Google Inc., (as a whole) Twitter, Facebook, Reddit, GitHub, You❤Porn (still not laughing), PornHub (still not laughing), Snapchat, YouTube, THE FCC THEMSELVES, Savetheinternet.com, battleforthenet, and much more...

People, since then, have been fighting back to keep the law alive. Its even gotten to the point where even pornography sites are something about this. EVEN PORNOGRAPHY SITES. Internet icons alike have also been taking action. Even one of the workers for the FCC doesn't want to kill the law. But now...

It doesn't matter what we do. Net Neutrality is dead. I don't wanna see it dead. If it does get repealed, ROM hacking is over. Mr. Pai literally does not care about the arguments. He wants to kill the law and we can't do anything about it. I know some of you would say, "Okay, I'll just pay to keep my ROM hacking days alive." I can't however. And that's not how it works. ROM hacking isn't a thing to be paid for. (unless your funding page's name is Patreon) ROM hacking is a hobby and an interest, something anyone can do, so therefore, it's not a job. If you've kept up with my messages from 2 days ago, you probably already saw me stress out over being 14 years of age and not having any actual money yet. Heck, I'm still in school and I'm barely going to take a end of course exam in a couple of weeks, and I haven't even earned my high school credits. ROM hacking means everything in the world to me, and I can't let that go, and I barely got into it two years ago. (I made this account when I was 13, but before that, I was a Mario 64 ROM hacker when I was 12) So if this law does get passed, then I might have to change 'Leaving for a bit...' to 'Leaving forever...', because I'm sure none of you guys want to pay for your personal hobbies, and neither do I. I'm pretty sure you guys won't see me do it at all, because I might have to pay to go on the internet.

The internet is an open place of freedom. Like I said before, it is free, open, accessible, inviting, "interesting", and much more. The internet isn't something you have 5 bucks for the second you open it. Portugal doesn't have Net Neutrality. The following link below this paragraph is a picture of what it is like without this law, and its not too nice. (I don't know what "Meo" is. My guess as to what it is is just a European Portugese cable provider. I'm an American, not a European.)
https://www.google.com/search?q=portuga … uW758jRoM:

Time is running out. On December 14, the voting will start which debates whether the law gets repealed or not. So get ready, its gonna be a long day.

If you support Net Neutrality being repealed, by all means, good for you. Just don't mention it in the comments. None of us here want to start an argument, and you know it. And I am NOT a political person.

This thread will be deleted after December 14

You may be surprised to hear that ROM hacking existed well over a decade before Obama’s rules were ever put in place. It will outlive this minor political battle.

I’m much more worried about what ISPs already do in terms of tracking users and injecting advertising than what they theoretically could do in terms of fast lanes and slow lanes.

Re: Regarding the Internet and this Website...

Why would you delete this thread after 24 hours if the goal is to spread awareness? When a good chunk of the users on this website don't necessarily check these forums daily.

I planned on deleting because this wouldn't mean much as anyone now can just look up net neutrality and can be filled in easily. I also decided not to remove this after 24 hours, but instead to remove this thread after Dec 14 (if the law stays and I don't have to pay 5 dollars a month to stay on here.)

Actually hearing myself, I also now realize that the "awareness" was a mistake on my part. Silly me. :P

Not surprised! I am aware there were emulators and ROM hacks in the late 90s! :)

Just as long as this doesn't affect GitHub. (By the looks of it, it probably will.)

EDIT: Okay, now I felt like I made you guys mad. :(

Re: Regarding the Internet and this Website...

Well, its over. Net Neutrality is in the process of being repealed. I worry about the state of GitHub. I also may have made some mistakes for the original post and may have missed the point so I came back to apologize. If what I said about ROM hacking gave you guys the wrong idea, I'm sorry.

But the fight isn't over. The FCC still needs to go to court and Congress. I may have said "just give up already" but there is still hope. Everybody makes mistakes. That also includes me.

The voting wasn't even fair, either. I was secretly watching the LIVE feed from computers class, and Ajit Pai was SUPER disrespectful. When Mrs. Clyburn made her speech about her disapproval for the repealing, Pai just sneered and said "so that's a no?" 80% of the Americans opposed the repealing as well, but they just ignored them and went along with the voting anyway. They gave away the internet to a bunch of greedy corporations for money. Shameful. Ajit knew this would work because he wanted Verizon to be nicer to him after he leaves the FCC.

I also can't believe the Republicans just made a last-ditch effort like that at the last minute. Also, completely unrelated, internet porn-lover Ted Cruz was for the net neutrality repeal. I don't think he knew what he was doing.

Well, its up to either court, the Democrats or Congress, for now.

I'M STILL NOT THE MOST POLITICAL PERSON ON THIS FORUM, SO I MAY HAVE GOTTEN SOME STUFF WRONG.

Also, I'm trying my best to be exempt from my exams, so I can come back as soon as possible. I got some good news for you guys. :)

Your exams are more important, if that would set you back I think you should focus on them. This place isn't important enough to sacrifice studies, and it'll still be there later when important exams are out of the way.

Thanks buddy! :P

Also, your new signature reminds me of my Mightyena from my first Nuzlocke for Emerald on my DS. It died when I was fighting the Elite Four. R.I.P. Mightyboi.

I was still able to get through the Elite Four with my Hamburglar. (Rayquaza)

I don't know if Poochyena is native to Alola at all in Ultra Sun or Ultra Moon, but I'll make sure to continue the legend. :p

Re: Regarding the Internet and this Website...

That's a shame. Mightyena is so much better than the others.

When I was younger, I wanted to play through the game with a certain team, all shiny, just for fun, so I got codes to make them appear on Route 101.
For the first one (Vulpix), I forgot to activate the shiny cheat, but when I stepped into the grass, I ran into a shiny Vulpix anyway.
Didn't realize anything, until I went to get the next one and saw that it was a different nature (I think the code I had just forced the RNG into the nearest shiny frame, so shinies caught with it would always be the same stats and nature.)

I was annoyed enough that I didn't even end up catching the other Pokémon and doing my playthrough. I just went back and used the shiny cheat to find any shiny on Route 101 to replace the Vulpix and went with it. Happened to be a Poochyena.
I kept it for so many years and I loved it (wasn't even that big a Mightyena fan at the time either), but I got rid of it eventually because I felt bad about having a shiny I had cheated for in my collection.

And no, it's not native to Alola, because Game Freak hates me.

I feel ya. I think everybody on this site went through something similar.

Did this happen on a Gameshark cart or on an emulator?

Completely off topic, I was experimenting with FireRed ROM hacking one day, and I discovered a way to replicate the legendary battles. (Just get the legendary battle script and copy and paste it to your own script, just change the offset and the Pokémon) So I gave Mew a proper event but the strange thing about it was that the other legendary battles had the same script as the new one, and whenever I interacted with Mew, the legendary battle would start properly, but have Pokémon Ruby, Sapphire and Emerald's trainer battle music play instead. I know FireRed and LeafGreen were built on top of Ruby and Sapphire, but as to why it uses the trainer battle music is beyond my knowledge. And I also figured out that the overworld cries for the legendaries is just their regular cries with a filter on it. I don't know if anybody has discovered this at all, as I did this in July. I looked up videos, but there seemed to be none.

Re: Regarding the Internet and this Website...

"Everybody" might be an overstatement, but I've definitely heard that from some people before. Not here, but just in general.
Real game, I could have used emulators at the time but I had the games, so eh, and I wouldnt have been able to transfer to Diamond if I did (at the time, anyway.)
