Re: G2Map - Pokemon Generation 2 map editor

Oh, while that's useful too, I think I've worded my post a bit ambiguously, sorry. I meant to ask what the properties of the various event types - what I'm calling ex. "Sprite Number", "Target Point", "Direction", etc. in G2Map - are commonly called. I don't want to throw another set of descriptions into the ring if ex. everyone uses JohtoMap's terms, although G2Map's are at least partially based on those already.

Edit: Well, even though G2Map is still missing some features, those that are already in aren't heavily tested yet, etc., I think it's time to release this "beta-ish" test build I was talking about before:

http://magicstone.de/dzd/random/G2Map_v … o-demo.rar

- Works with every version of Gold, Silver and Crystal that I'm aware of, as mentioned including ex. the oddball Korean G/S
- Supports extended tilesets via Tauwasser's hack
- Edit scripts via external script editors (i.e. PKSV), similar to JohtoMap
- A multi-language GUI, user edit- and extendable (XML\Localization.xml)
- Various GUI improvements and changes over G2Map v0.1

- Still missing tileset editor, town map editor, and a bunch of other things; will read this thread again to see which other suggestions I forgot :)

So, yeah, feedback would be very much appreciated!

Double-posting to make the edit to my last post more obvious, because it contains a test build of G2Map - hope that's alright?

Re: G2Map - Pokemon Generation 2 map editor

Going to download this now, and I'll try to get some feedback in later today if I run into issues.

EDIT1: I tried opening a copy of Pokémon Christmas in it. While it accurately loads the tileset images and allows me to resize the map block selector, it seems to have issues with detecting the repointed pallet allocation. Here is a screenshot of what it looks like for me in the editor. As a reference, I repointed tileset allocations using the method described in this thread in the Gen II section here.

@xdanieldzd
If it is Ok, can you make it to support morethan 28 tilesets?

Re: G2Map - Pokemon Generation 2 map editor

Sorry for the late reply, this week hasn't really been very kind to me, so I haven't had much of a chance to work on G2Map. Anyway...

Mateo: I assume that's a work-in-progress version of Pokemon Christmas, because the tileset is different from the one in the only version of the hack I could find. Do you know of any public hack that exhibits the same palette problems? Otherwise I'll try and follow the method you linked to, to create a ROM with the same glitch myself to debug that.

RED: It's already coded to try and load up to 48 tilesets, for as long as it determines that the last tileset it tried to load was valid. Validity is determined by checking if each of the pointers in the tileset header leads to an offset inside the ROM (i.e., that the offset pointed to is not greater than the ROM size), and that the two bytes between the animation data pointer and the palette assignment pointer are null.

Re: G2Map - Pokemon Generation 2 map editor

xdanieldzd: Yeah, that is from the new update I'm currently working on. In addition to a lot of storyline/feature updates, I've also extended most of the tilesets and I now have several more outdoor tilesets than original Gold had for variety (but I actually have fewer tilesets than Gold did in total, because I combined several indoor tilesets while I was at it). I don't know of any other hacks that have this issue with the editor, but I haven't really tried to load anyone else's hack in it either. I'm assuming that RED's hack would have this issue as well, since I can only assume it uses his routine too haha. Following that tutorial to debug the editor might be helpful. I don't have the source code for it, but I know that MegaMap correctly loads pallet assignments in Christmas so I'm sure the issue can be corrected eventually. If anyone knows where the source code is to MegaMap/ZeroMap, it might be helpful.

For reference, here is the same map loaded in MegaMap if anyone is interested.

The source code of ZeroMap was never released by its author.

I thought that was probably the case, since I had never seen or heard of the source code being distributed anywhere, but thought it might be worth mentioning in case it was around and I just didn't know it. Oh well.

Re: G2Map - Pokemon Generation 2 map editor

Hiya!

I had put hacking on hiatus due to personal problems and only came back recently, so I didn't see this development until now. I've put the link to the updated beta in my OP for you so as to make it more accessible. Keep up the good work. ^^
