Pokémon Crystal Restored

Hack Name: Pokemon Crystal Restored

Hack of: Crystal

This ROM hack restores unfinished/exclusive content in the Pokémon Crystal ROM, based on the pokecrystal disassembly.

In the restored Safari Zone you can catch Gold/Silver exclusive Pokémon, however the Pokédex is still only completable by trading with another Generation I game.

I tried to restore the Pokécom Center as close to the Japanese version as possible. All the dialogue was already translated, but since we can't actually do any mobile trading there are some differences in functionality. In an upcoming version I will resolve some of these differences.

Let me know in the thread if there is anything else you'd like to see restored or fixed.

Changes

This release restores the following content:

The following bugs were fixed:

  • Fast Ball now has an increased catch rate with all fleeing Pokémon instead of just three of them.

  • Love Ball now has an increased catch rate on the opposite gender, as mentioned in the description.

  • Moon Ball now has an increased catch rate on Pokémon that evolve with a Moon Stone.

The following is different from the Japanese version of the Pokécom Center:

  • The mobile adapter features such as mobile trading and the news machine are left inactive.

  • The people in the Pokécom Center are placed in the position they would be after registering the mobile adapter, but they will still refer to the Pokécom Center as being inactive.

  • The Pokécom Center music will always be played instead of only after registering.

  • The Odd Egg is randomly generated using the same method in vanilla Crystal instead of being downloaded by mobile.

  • The GS ball event is activated just by talking to the Trade Corner receptionist instead of winning some News Machine games and getting all badges.

  • The Pokéfan from the Goldenrod Pokécenter asking for eon mail was kept instead of removed.

Credits
Thanks to Sanky, yenatch, Danny, iimarckus, kanzure and everyone on the #skeetendo IRC for their great disassembly and helping me whenever I got stuck.

Yes, the Gold/Silver exclusive Pokémon and unlike other rom hacks it does not re-purpose any existing list. For example, the Emu Edition ROM hack will remove wild Pokémon from a small section of Silver Cave.

No, you will have to trade with a generation I game to complete your Pokédex. Now that most emulators can do trading it's very easy to trade with a generation I game and I think it adds to the fun of the game.

If you're looking for a romhack with a completable pokedex using just crystal I would recommend the Emu Edition romhack.

No problem, if you transfer your save files from your phone to your PC you can do trading using an emulator such as VBA-M and afterwards you can transfer them back.

If you're looking for a romhack that doesn't need trading I recommend the Emu Edition romhack.

I'm not familiar with MeBoy, but the save data should be stored somewhere on the phone just like the ROM.

no problem? lol, you talk about what you cant understand. Play pokemon in JAR isn't same like you play by an emu like vboy or super goboy.

I've examined the source code of meboy, it stores the save games in a RecordStore and can transfer them back through bluetooth. It's also in the changelog for version 2.0: "Added support for sending cart-RAM and suspended games via Bluetooth"

There's still the possibility the author did not think of adding support to transfer them to the PC, but only between mobile phones (lol). If so, it shouldn't be very hard to build a Java application for the PC that can receive the data, maybe we could work together to build one?

If you have a smartphone you don't even need to transfer them back, you can use the free emulator MyOldboy which can do local gameboy linking.

Or you can edit the rom yourself, here is a version of Harrison's GSC Wild Pokémon editor that is compatible with this romhack: https://www.dropbox.com/s/ds1yzgdz9x0kn … Editor.zip

Is there any way that you and FroggestSpirit can merge your hacks into a megahack? http://hax.iimarck.us/topic/3124/

Re: Pokémon Crystal Restored

Hey, that sounds nice, but I have one question, is it possible to recreate separate ips patches? I am intesterested in:

    Restored Pokécom Center.
    Restored Odd Egg Ticket event.
    Restored GS Ball event.
    Restored censored sprites.
Restored dialogue references to Pokécom Center and Battle Tower.

I want the game closer to the original and just restore things that exist in original japanese rom, I don't want new content that do not exist in japanese rom or bug fixes. Can you help me? I think there are more purists than me here that want this also.

+15 Years enjoying the very first Pokémon Generation, I never get tired, I always find a new way to do something different and make the whole journey worth again.
