Re: Editing Gen 1 stuff to recreate a Green Version

I already edited it in my ROM. It adds 28 to the tile of the pokeball (used for the lower part of the trainer's hand in the old sprite), waits for the starter index number values (B0 B1 and 99) and then moves that tile in a specific way. I don't know how you did the triple screen thing and I can't find the download link of your hack to look at it (in case we are talking of the same hack, I only found one after searching your posts).

I've made some more progress:

-Swapped the in game trade between Nidoran(m) and Nidoran(f), changed the nickname to "CHAPPY".
-Added the "presents" text under the GF logo.
-Fixed the Nidorino jump sound effect.
-Added the delay before the game changes into the title screen.

But the horizontal title screen logo animation looks way more difficult to replicate. Also tried to find what is different from the rapid flashing battle animations without any luck so far, subanimation data seems the same unless I looked at the wrong offset. Not sure to add this change, but wanted to learn how it was fixed and perhaps make a separate ROM with them.

This is how the intro looks for now:

@Fotomac:

I used an image of Green from the manga and the sprite you posted before.

Also I was keeping this secret because I have to ask the original authors but... I'm updating the English hack I used when I was learning how to change the pointers at the beginning, with all the stuff already done on my ROM. It's an old hack from 2005 and the publisher was Skeetendo (that's what the romhacking page says) so if any of them is still here, I want to ask if they are interested in releasing it (if not I will keep it for personal use). Some of the changes where the slot machine, SGB palettes, rotating mons player sprite and copyright year from the title screen, the flower routine and the texts from the Celadon poster and credits that needed more space for characters (or to align the text properly).

Which hack would this be?
I don't see one from 2005 on RHDN. Only one I know of is this one.

Yes, I mixed up "5 years ago" and 2005 :P

My game is almost finished, I rewrote the Pokédex (only for the Spanish ROM, as I'm sure I would introduce some mispellings in the  English one...) and changed some NPC text* (drunk old man, girl, the man that said his new Raichu evolved, and the guy from Silph that mentions the Tiksi/Tunguska branch).

Now the problem is, I tested the ROM with a N64 emulator and the Stadium 1&2 and it works, a green label is assigned to the "cart", the game reads the save file... but the GB tower doesn't work. I did some research and found that some people managed to run a few games like Super Mario Land 1 and Wario Land II changing the ROM header for the Red/Blue ones... but even doing that it doesn't work. It is always asking me to check the transfer pack. The checksum is fixed too, and the original Red/Blue ROMs work.

Any ideas?

*Can anyone please check if these sentences are correct?

Oh Grandpa! How can you fall asleep here? You're hopeless! We have no other choice to wait for him to sober up...

Aww... Hic!
Wait! Listen to what I'm going to tell you... Hey! Don't go away!

---

Hmmm... Seems like I was drunk! My head hurts... By the way, are you in a hurry?

---

Did the ELECTRODE I traded with you became any stronger?

If you mean grammatically speaking...

Sounds more correct to me. The other two don't seem wrong.

As far as I'm concerned, that hack was a community effort that you are more than welcome to contribute to. Just submit an edit to the page with a new version that has all the new stuff in it and add yourself to the credits.
Put it up as v2.0 imo, since your edits pretty much add everything that's been missing that differentiated that hack from the actual Green version.

Re: Editing Gen 1 stuff to recreate a Green Version

Thanks! I fixed the text.

The Pokédex is still missing. The thing is that the Japanese Red/Green entries were oficially translated for Fire Red (our games and ironically Leaf Green used the JP Blue entries), so we only need to adapt each entry to 6 lines of 18 characters. That is what I did for the Spanish ROM.
