a gen2 hack starting in kanto?

so , hello everyone here at skeetendo, I am very new to rom hacking, I can barely use tools to great effect and have no clue as to even making gameshark codes from rom addresses/offsets letalone directly reprogramming base roms with asm or the like..

but yes , even though it is a basical idea that kind of has no plan or real reason behind it being done unlike all the cool hacks in progress/finished here be old ones like crystal all or newer ones Red++ (cant off the top of my mind remember what the hack is called that mateo was going to use that as a base rom for but sounded neat as)

but it is just a basic idea..

I was wondering , can the games red and gold be merged into a single rom by patching ? I mean surely with the graphics updated red hakc on here and the fact it looks just like g/s wouldn't that be a good place to start (after cleaning up the codeing of the new rom base ofc)?

and I was thinking instead of just after the league being warped back to your house maybe some real good cutscenes featuring parts of the story that explains what happens between the 2 sagas and maybe have the protagonist be asked by oak to take the g/s ball to elm then in turn have him have no clue and take it to kurt and instead of picking up a pokedex in joht how you do in a new game maybe have some sort of scripted event where Amanda/lyra has just picked up a pokemon and have team rocket steal her single pkemon and have the player get it back and then you escort her back to elms lab where  say whilst all this happened he too had a pokemon stolen ? and then rewards you with a johto starter ( set to be say chikorita and have scripted events  like instead of eevee in goldenrod get the 2nd and the 3rd in the sylph co like in hg/ss and ofc have the other 2 kanto starters in  the wild but relevant places like wild charizard inside the cinnabar volcano , les be fair a decent mod of the original gen2 games is guna need some new stuff and events )

whilst im on the subject of cinnabar volcano , im unde rthe understanding there was actually an event for generation2 in the Japanese crystal that utilised some unused maps in the game (aswell as merely giving a g/s ball and having a working safari zone)

or was that infact an ancient Japanese rom hack I am thinking of  , that had upper floors to lavender radio tower/ a difrent viridian forest/seafoam islands/cinibar volcano interior/ hidden underground areas such as a path from lavender town all the way into the old rocket hideout under celadon?

so was I playing a rom hack when I managed to gain acess (wasn't atall easy either by the way gameplay wise) to these places?

either way this isn't the reason im writing the post in hand ,


its because I think , and ive seen a lot of original gb/gbc game fans requesting a hack like this ..


and after playing through / thoroughly enjoying almost if not every single hack rom game I have downloaded / that is featured on this site

I really feel like if someone , maybe more then one of you guys here , if you all collaborated and put your bestareas of expertise into the gien parts that needed editing ( I mean we all know things like a flamethrower tm is vital and should be added to any notable gen2 hack also , forget the fact theirs a move tutor but tm's for bolt/beam too, maybe even putting in rather then adding new pokemon make the existing ones more useable in the stats dept in the flareon or ariados type cases or say adding ancient power into the kanto birds movesets && sacred fire on rapidash maybe? giving snorlax lovely kiss and instead of blanking out the top floors of pokemon centres actually add new maps to the rom by changing the headers so people can actually wifi battle with these hacks rather then making them have to load the sav on an unedited orig so not to risk bugs maybe but that's not such a massive issue I guess)

but you see what I mean , like the best spriters and tileset guys work on that , and ok its good to in just a mod of an existing game make as many new additions to make it feel fresh but sometimes if things aren't broke they don't need fixing


and anyway even if this is going to be based on the original 2 games , wasn't that basically what something like pokemon xmas was ? (not digging you out here mateo just using as an example and a very good example it is , was extremely well don't mate)


also you have hacks here that mebers made but there are some very good notable hacks that non members made why not havesome of those in here too ( the original silver 251 was and stil is a great hack and I may go at it with a tm editor and make some minor needed changes to make a final release for it as the author long has stopped hacking and doesn't give a crap about pokemon anymore , plus id give him credit anyway)


my experiences in hacking were just one

it literally took out the need for flash and cut in crystal version and added every single non crystal okemon into the wild in relatively sensible locations


someone/some people with the correct knowledge/skills should pick this project up and make something people have wanted for a long time


yes there are kanto hacks with johto pokemon but , down to things like making johto pokemon start to appear at the later side of kanto ingame and just having wild johto pokes in johto rather then a messed up way they did I the real games with regards to that would be cool and especially to see a end game level curve on the johto side (easily my fave part of the pokemon world and ive played and olved every gen except 6) would be outstanding , imagine the rocekts in the radio tower johto with level 60 pokes and competitive metagame movesets lol, and if anyone ever does this please make all opponents have a/I from battle tower like standards !!!!

It would be easiest to rewrite Red's event code in Crystal's event script. The text is compatible, at least.

pokecrystal is reasonably easy to use. This type of mod is actually not all that difficult to pull off, since most of the assets are already there. I think it would make for a good starting project if you're looking to figure out how it works.
