Pokemon Crystal Advanced

Hack Name: Pokemon Crystal Advanced

Hack of Pokemon Crystal

Taken from the ReadMe:

Pokemon Crystal Advanced V1.0
Created by: tHeObLiViNaToR

Included in this package is:

1x CrystalAdvance.ips file (used with Lunar IPS to patch Pokemon - Crystal Version (UE) (V1.0) [C][!] ROMs)
1x Readme.txt file

The purpose of this hack is too provide a classic Pokemon Crystal playthrough that adds the difficulty that was implemented in the Heart Gold/Soul Silver remakes. Thus V1.0 of Pokemon Crystal Advance is a very simple and minor hack.

Trainers.asm from the Pokemon Crystal Disassembly has been modified so that the trainer data matches that of the Heart Gold /Soul Silver versions as much as possible. This includes the Pokemon species used by trainers, the level of the Pokemon used by trainers, and the move data for those Pokemon. Because of the simple nature of this hack, V1.0 can be used as a ROM base for personal hacks as long as credit is given to me (tHeObLiViNaToR).

There are some things that are not implemented yet such as the inclusion of Generation III  and onward Pokemon, Generation III and onward moves, as well as the new trainers that were added to Pokemon Heart Gold/Soul Silver versions.

Pokemon Crystal Advanced is still a work in progress. Future versions are planned to include scripted events that occurred in the Heart Gold/Soul Silver versions as well as Gym Leader and Elite 4 rematches.

Because of the simple nature of this hack I don't feel the need to provide screenshots.

Download link: https://anonfiles.com/file/e83685adbccb … 05f97b4016

I made this today and played up to Clair with no errors. I'm planning on finishing the play-through tomorrow. Feel free to download and play as you want or use as a base ROM for your hacks. Please report and errors or bugs in here and I'll fix them.

Ideas planned for V2.0:
Rematches with Gym Leaders and Elite 4 members.
Inclusion of scripted events that were added to Heart Gold/Soul Silver that were not present in Crystal i.e. Kimono Girls
Anything else that users recommend that stay true to Pokemon Crystal and Heart Gold/Soul Silver

Re: Pokemon Crystal Advanced

Cool! If you want to make it a little more comprehensive, here are some other HGSS features you could add:
1. Restore Viridian Forest, Seafoam Islands, and other places.
2. Put Articuno, Zapdos, and Moltres in Kanto.
2. Unique battle music for Ho-oh and Lugia.
3. Separate themes for Ecruteak City and Cianwood City (as they are in HG/SS).
4. Special Pokemon respawn after defeating the Elite Four
5. Unique themes for many of the Kanto towns.(I'm not sure how much extra music Crystal can handle, there are a lot of Kanto towns that reuse the same theme).
6. Running shoes, plz?
7. Get Kanto starters from Oak.

Just a few ideas. Honestly I think you should place more emphasis on restoring Kanto than adding the Kimono girls. I feel like Kanto really needs to be improved, also its easier to implement ;)

Most of those changes I actually had planned but thank you for listing them so I won't forget. I hadn't thought about changing any of the music themes, I agree those would be cool.

As well as restoring Viridian Forest, Seafrom Islands, and Cerulean Cave, I wanted to create the Safari Zone and the events tied with it like it was introduced in HG/SS.

I was also thinking about a tasteful way to introduce the Pokemon exclusives from RBY, like the fossil Pokemon and the starters. I believe you get to chose a Kanto starter from Oak late in the game in HG/SS so I could do the same here, probably make it so you receive all three. The legendarys can be handled like they were in HG/SS (the legendary birds and Mewtwo), and I'm not sure yet about the Fossil Pokemon. You guys could provide ideas for those two.

I've done the easy part with the trainers. The hard part is figuring out how to create all these new features in the disassembly. I'm familiar with doing it using Map Editor Tools like JohtoMap (sorta) but it will be a learning process for handling it via the disassembly.

I agree with you. These things would be awesome. The 8th thing that would be very cool is new tilesets which look more like HGSS.

Re: Pokemon Crystal Advanced

Is it ok to patch the IPS file to a normal Crystal ROM,not to Pokemon Crystal(UE)[!].

Re: Pokemon Crystal Advanced

Yeah if you are going to put a link of my hack in my thread, it should be the version that I released, not something your friend edited. If you friend wants to make his own version you can make your own thread for that.

Please remove it.

Re: Pokemon Crystal Advanced

Alright it has been awhile and I'm starting to think about getting this back up and running again. After some time thinking about what I want to do with I decided the next step would be to buff certain Pokemon and bring them up to the same power level they are at in other generations. I'm not going to modify base stats or give them crazy movepools, I just want some of my favorites to be more usable in GSC, like how they are in HGSS.

Take Crobat for example. He is one of my favorite, and is pretty fun and useful to use in HGSS and pretty much any generation except the GSC era. Lets compare it's learnset.

GSC:

Start - Screech
Start - Leech Life
Start - Supersonic
6 - Supersonic
12 -Bite
19 - Confuse Ray
30 - Wing Attack
42 - Mean Look
55 - Haze

HGSS:

Start - Cross Poison
Start - Screech
Start - Leech Life
Start - Supersonic
Start - Astonish
5 - Supersonic
9 - Astonish
13 - Bite
17 - Wing Attack
21 - Confuse Ray
27 - Air Cutter
33 - Mean Look
39 - Poison Fang
45 - Haze
51 - Air Slash

Now obviously you can see in HG/SS, Crobat has a more fleshed out learnset, have access to both types of STAB, and has better level distribution for moves. I'd like to bring that aspect into the GSC Crobat. Obviously I can't make a complete copy of it because of new moves existing in later generations, but somethings can be taken and added or changed for the better. For instance instead of Poison Fang at level 39, we could use Sludge Bomb. Instead of Air Slash at 51, we could use Sky Attack. It'll take some time to get things right, especially with balance issues. I think that clearly shows the goal I'm trying to achieve.d

What I'd like from users reading this is input on what favorites they'd like to see buffed. To start out with I'm just going to modify my favorites because, lets face it, I'm more likely to use them than others who don't have the same favorites as me. If you think Growlithe and Arcanine need some help, go ahead and post it and give a little description of what you'd like to see. It would be pretty sweet if the community came together and really help flesh out some of these Pokmone who need a little boost to be more viable in GSC.

As for the rest of the changes I said I'd like to add in previous posts, I think I've narrowed it down a little further. I'm not planning on messing with tile-sets or music changes right now. Here is the list.

1.) Buff Pokemon learnsets
2.) Include Gym leader and Elite 4 rematches (the teams are already determined and added to the ROM, I just need to script the rematches. I will probably just make them available after you have collected all 16 badges by talking to the gym leader again, or entering the E4)
3.) Add maps to areas that were present in HGSS, but not GSC, such as Viridian Forest, Safari Zone, Cerulean Cave, etc...
4.) Have a tasteful way to complete the Pokedex by adding events for Pokemon missing, like the legendary birds, Mewtwo, Mew, Celebi, the fossil Pokemon, and Kanto starters. I'd like this to stay true to the original as possible.

I'm not sure how much longer this motivation will last, I'm really interested in a lot of other projects at the moment. I suppose I'll just wait for feedback from others before diving head first into this.
