Should i leave ROM Hacking........?

...Hello there.
It's been a year that i come here and know what romhacking is.
But i see that i can't do even a simple thing in romhacking.
I tried changing the title screen of pokemon silver, and i failed 5 times !
Both the easier method and advanced method didn't work.
I also don't have creativity...
What i want to do is a pokemon yellow remake on gbc. But i think that my dream will never come true.

Should i give up.
That makes me sad. I never did what i wnted.
I need your opinion....(Please be serious).

Re: Should i leave ROM Hacking........?

Seriously? You want to leave because you "tried changing the title screen of pokemon silver, and failed 5 times" Well, it's really your choice, but we all learn from our mistakes and past failures, so I don't see why you'd want to leave after a year.

"I also don't have the creativity"
Sure you do. Everyone has a unique sense of creativity in one way or another. But leaving isn't going to make you any more creative. Quitting is never the answer.

"Should I give up"
Again, it's your choice. You shouldn't ask others if you should leave. That's ultimately up to you.

If it matters at all, you've probably done better in the Red hack than I ever could.

Re: Should i leave ROM Hacking........?

Look, I first got into hacking around two years ago. During the first year, there was not much I could do. I basically learned how to use tools such as map editors or wild/trainer pokemon editors. Now, I can make complex scripts and do a lot of stuff with asm. The more I learned, the bigger goals I set to myself.

If there's something you can't do yet, focus on doing easier things. Since you seem much too worried about the title screen let me tell you that I ran into similar problems. I didn't know how to make an amazing titlescreen so I just went to TLP and did what i could to edit the version name of the hack and remove everything else. The thing is, now I know I could learn about how to make a more sophisticated title screen but the thing is that id doesn't bother me. I'm happy with the way it is.

In short you need to know what you want, as well as what your limits are so that you know what you can do and what you can't do right know. The more you learn, the less limited you will be. The key here is to enjoy learning, and to enjoy the satisfaction of learning something new or achieving your goals. If you don't, you have to keep in mind that you are using your free time to hack and that this is not a job and you are not being paid for it, so might as well give up. It really depends on whether you enjoy it or not. It's really that simple.

Re: Should i leave ROM Hacking........?

Crystal_ and Jastolze thanks for telling me what to do!)
And i'll try to do better. I also started gba hacking. I plan on making a pokemon yellow remake both on gbc and gba!

Sometimes when i read a tutorial i understand it well, but once i start to do something i'll get confused quickly, also tired too.
I know i just must be calm and don't worry for some things.
Another thing what i lack is willpower.
Today i was doing a personal firered hack.
Well i decided to edit some names of the items and i started editing once i went to max repel item i quit the program. That was annoying.

And i'll not leave romhacking.
Thanks to Crystal_ an Jastolze
And Crystal_ your Pokemon Pyrite hack is awesome! Waiting for final relase.

Yeah, you shouldn't leave. I didn't do anything with ROM hacking for months, but last week I started inserting FamiTracker in R/B/Y andcreated the first arpeggiated melody in R/B/Y.

Hacks Gameboy 8-bit music in Pokémon Gen I & II, composes 8-bit music in FamiTracker

Thanks TMOTW!
Nice to hear about it. And it does not matter how long you don't work on a romhack cause you always have the needed knowledge for it.

Re: Should i leave ROM Hacking........?

Never give up, never surrender. If you have a passion for romhacking and want to learn how to do it, don't just give up. We all fail several times before we actually get it right. To quote a tv show that I don't watch, "Sucking at something is the first step to being kinda good at something!" I mean, have you seen the original release of Secrets and Rumours? That thing was a joke. Or look at Koolboyman's original hacks before Brown. We all have to start somewhere, and nobody learns everything over night. But just keep trying and eventually you will get the hang of it.

Why does it matter? He's admin. There's nothing you can do about it.
