Skeetendo

I was messing around with changing the evolutions/attacks and after I evolved haunter, i went into a match to use dream eater. I used hypnosis a couple of times against rattata and noctowl and got the "It doesn't affect" a few times. Is that a substitute for it missing or is it something else? I mean they end up going to sleep sooner or later, I've just ever heard of it not affecting pokemon lol. This is all in route 29 at night. I'm not sure whether or not it's night has something to do with it either. Same thing happened with spinarak on route 30. Looked like poliwag went to sleep every time, although I'm not sure if it was just luck
