Pokemon Diet Green Tea Edition

Hello everyone. My name's HanzoGSC and as my name implies, I hack the best gen of all, gen 2.  I'm working on a Gold Hack that I call Pokemon Diet Green Tea Edition or DGT. The point of this game is to implement the weather trio from gen 3 (Groudon, Kyogre, Rayquazza) as well as other pokemon from other generations. The Idea is that the return of the trio has caused different pokemon to migrate to PRIMO, My region. However, I'm having a few issues; Since it is implementing groudon and kyogre I'd like to know how to change the rainbow wing and silver wing's names to red orb and blue orb respectively, as well as the descriptions of the items. I'd also like to know how to edit pokedex entries. I know these both require editing via hex, and I have very, very limitted knowledge of how to do so. Anyway, Thanks in advance Skeetendo community. :) I'm glad there's a place that is exclusive to GSC/RBY hacking.

I suppose I could show you all what I have so far. Please critique me. Tell me what you like, and what you don't. (Also, I'm a rubbish spriter so I tend to use other people's work, never without credit though.)

UPDATE(7-9-12): Well I've got a few new screenshots. I'm slowly but surely finally getting the hang of basic hex when it comes to editing hex.
I did the intro and poketto did 99% the sprite for the new champion HANZO. I have yet to do the OW for him.

Hex editing, especially editing text, is dead simple. You may be interested in this tutorial, which I wrote several years ago.

So far only emolga cuz thats thats the one I like the most. The problem is that whenever you add a pokemon to a gen 2 game you have to replace an existing pokemon.  however I'm thinking about it.

Oh yeah check it out

Not necessarily.

You can try to hide yourself in this world of pretend; when the paper's crumpled up, it can't be perfect again.

Shouldn't you add more to the description? Maybe Blue and Red Orb used to seal Groudon and Kyogre away?

I've got a strong feeling repointing is required and he would have done if he could. Again, a good reason to learn something more than "basic" hex editing ;)

I suposse I could have. my problem when I tried it the first time is that the text kinda rolled off the screen.

Input 4E for any byte where you want to end the first line of text and move on to the next one.  You might've been able to figure this out just by looking at how other item descriptions are formatted.

Re: Pokemon Diet Green Tea Edition

First of all, freakin' amazing hack man, cannot WAIT for the final version, looks incredible.

When it comes to the Gen 3 starters, do they have their signature moves? Have you made Blaze Kick, Muddy Water and Leaf Blade for them? The first two aren't that essential since Flamethrower and Surf are better, but Leaf Blade is REALLY needed for Sceptile since it gets no other good grass moves.

Actually, expanding on that idea, how much are you concentrating on making sure that the newly entered Pokemon have good / suitable movesets? I know moves like Aura Sphere and Dragon Pulse don't exist for Lucario to use, but if you give it Drain Punch (which is much easier to add in the game), Crunch, Extremepseed at least it can work like in the later games. I don't doubt you will be thorough, I just have seen could-be-good attempts at this before that have been ruined by messed-up movesets or unedited stats, etc.

If there are any gen 4 / 5 pokemon you would think about adding, remember that there is no physical special split, so something like Darmanitan would be terrible with its reliance on a special Fire Punch running off a base 30 SpA instead of base 140 Att... Krookodile also had terrible SpA so its Dark moves would be useless, for example. I really hope you do put some more Gen 4 and 5 Pokemon in the game at some point though, especially with all the useless ones like Raticate, Pidgeot / Fearow and Ledian that could easily be replaced.
- Some of the more suitable Gen 3 / 4 / 5 Pokemon I can think of that you might want to add include Metagross, Staraptor, Electivire, Magmortar, Magnezone, Gigalith, Excadrill, Conkeldurr, Zoroark, Galvantula, Golurk, Braviary and Hydreigon. Obviously not all of them, that would be crazy, but some of them have easy-to-replace choices... Staraptor or Braviary replacing the Pidgeot / Fearow lines would work easily, Conkeldurr could easily go over Machamp, Gigalith / Excadrill lines would replace Golem / Steelix lines, Hydreigon and Metagross could obviously replace Dragonite and Tyranitar, etc etc.

Oh, and the Orbs are awesome :)

Sorry if I'm being overexited, it's just the first legit gen 2 hack that contains multiple really, really interesting later-gen Pokemon and that actually looks like it will come to fruition. Good luck making it, can't wait to play!
